I've tossed that idea around a few times.

Honestly, I found the idea of making these videos very interesting. It could be very useful for beginners and for other players who seek to acquire more knowledge about mechanics and other features. The Wiki is a great source of information, but videos would be more intuitive to those who start to get interested in CM.

I considered doing something like that, however I don't have any editing software and an uncut tutorial would somehow dip below my usual quality standards.

If I eventually get my hands on some editing software though you can bet I'll make some CM tutorials.

I recall ElDefaultio was making a video but I'm not too sure they're in a position to do it now.

I could throw something up for the marine quickstart guide though. More or less cryo to deployment and back. Subtitles, no voiceover.

This would be great. Something to show new players how to do something on their screen would be amazing, whether or not there is a voiceover.

I was thinking it could be like a bootcamp but make it like a mini series so like characters are possibly drafted from CM server and then like make it like a show and stuff, but a raw gameplay footage tutorial would be cool also.

Have a tutorial for each position, and different ones about mechanics maybe. Id volunteer as a crowd character XD

If they do it with a series, i totally vote a baldie and a marine who always FF by accident no matter the odds just as running gag characters.

If the videos cover all of the basics of CM and marine/xeno roles, I personally would be heavily interested in videos that deal with basic squad movement and tactics. Visualizing how a squad moves from point A to point B, and how they should respond to contact can go a long way.

Players wanting to get into Xenos could benefit from visually seeing how each cast plays like as well.

I could do that easily. The only question is what kind of things would it entail? Most of CM is either simplified until a monkey could do it or self explanatory.

Actually making a general video about controls for the simple things like eating or wielding a gun so that people unfamiliar with SS13 can know things and avoid the problem of 'HOW FIRE GUNZ?'.

Other than that maybe a videos about the various classes and how they function and act in the game kind of like a character spotlight.

I'm not about to go get all the base footage for it, I haven't had much time lately to play CM. But if anyone would like assistance I'd be happy to help. I'm a professional video editor and voice over artist though, so if anyone wants some help I'd be glad to throw myself in.

I'd be down to participate in the video. Does anyone have a good DI voice to do a voiceover? Something Drill Sergeant Hartman-like.

Oftentimes I wish I could make my own "bootcamp" series, where I explain how to do certain roles and provide advice and tips for the newbies (at least from my point of view).

More detailed training videos that go beyond the wiki could go a long way to improving the new members of the community.

Sound like a great idea, it would be really cool if new players were able to watch a guide rather than have to figure it all out by reading forums and wiki, it would also help more experienced players who want to find out more about a particular role

So more thoughts on the bootcamps vids.

What style would they be done in?
-Bob ross/mr. rogers 90's training video? with a calm warm sound?
-Krabby patty forumula/ happy corporation training video, filled with cheesy energy? ( that might be interesting for a goon station trainee video)
-Cold, technical readout video, with synthetic voices? maybe an ominous Wayland Yutani logo to open it up. Dark scifi like.

-Theres always a boot camp rundown, would it be on a serious tone? overexagerated drill instructor?
Hehe.

I'd be up with providing the voice, although I know jack squat about recording audio.

We'd need someone with a good microphone to record, if you have that, recording your voice is easy. The Bob Ross style would be great, calm and nice to watch. It could be more agressive to stress important advice. I think we need to think about the structure of the vids, because they'd need to be clear and to cover everything there is to know.

Maybe a special bootcamp vid that'd explain all the mechanics for SS13 newbs would be a good start.

well. to get it started.

a bootcamp video would require

- sourced footage gathered via in game.
a good one ive used is Open broadcast software (OBS home).
If i remember, vlc also does recordings i think? god cant remember.

-edits of said footage into some sort of video.
Video and audio editing software... dont know where to start on that one.
fruityloops for audio? i've used it a little, but only to make a synthetic beat... havent really explore it.

-either text or voice overlay
-if voiced, we just need a recording. which means just need a mic and a sexy voice. Which means, where's a good place to upload some soundclips for demoing,
Soundcloud?

i've never really uploaded any clips other than youtube... so i wouldnt know where we could load up test videos and audio.
the CM forums cant really hold that much in attachment formats. Anyone have any ideas on a gathering area? maybe the CM discord?
(Plug in question)

Possible goals of video/s in question:
- Introducing completely fresh faced players to SS13 as a whole (controls, movement, basic concepts of switching hands with your keyboard and not your mouse)
- taking SS13 players and introducing them to the unique aspects of the COLONIAL MARINES (becoming a soldier, following marine laws, layout of the ships, how to be a decent ship officer)
- etc.

I know a big one is being a ship officer and commanding with the computer, ordering people around, being proactive, dropping OB'S.
Marine law is a massive one.

Video editing softwares also include sound, the best ones are adobe premiere (windows) and final cut (mac). There's also Avid but I'd rather edit the old way with scissors and duct tape than use that piece of shit.

I can deal with the editing part if you want.

Also yeah rather than making one video per job it'd be interesting to work on CM concepts, one video on marine law that covers the MP jobs but is also useful for command roles and medics (BEs, insubordination, drug laws....).

For example, instead of having a video "how 2 SL" we'd have a video covering all fighting troops, and the leading aspect of the SL would be covered in a "Commanding the troops" video.

That way, bootcamps vids would be one big tutorial.
