Depends on the player.

Some Predator players make an actual meaning out of their name. Others just chose Predator words that sound cool/easy to roll off the tongue when spoken.

The actual words in a Predators name do mean something though.
This is war, survival is your responsibility.

Me personally I chose my name based on what my character was...but yeah, you can go on the wiki and choose the phrases but meh. Or you can make up some words and give it it's own meaning but you are subjected to people's opinion.

What do you think is a good name for a predator? Or at least one that isn't stupid.

From what i've gathered, all Yautja words available on the internet are culled from one book: Aliens vs. Predator: Prey by Steve and Stephani Perry. Now, in an action/sci-fi oriented book about one of the edgiest villains spawned by the 80s sci-fi craze it makes sense that the words used most would revolve around killing and darkness. Unfortunately, however, we are now here, playing on a videogame server based on a decade-old atmospheric pressure test program with a whitelisted role based on the Yautja presented in the various movies, books, comics, and games spawned by the Aliens & Predator franchises. A large part of this whitelist's application process is the creation of a Yautja name, the first being a sort of "freestyle" type thing, much like human names, and the last name representing the clan a Yautja hails from.

In creating this name, one MUST use Yautja language, which brings us back in full circle: With only a select few words available, what can be done to prevent names from becoming obviously edgy or nonsensical as the server grows and more newbies become regulars with high hopes and plenty of creativity? People, we are looking at something I just thought up a name for:

Fabricate a custom one, people need to stop combining bullshit words together.

Wouldn't it make sense to write in the guidelines that if you're going to make a custom name, you should translate it?

This is something I was really running over in my app, and asked many people on.

@Crab_Spider A name doesn't always need a definition, sometimes a name is defined by those who use it. (Deep comment)

By this I mean that there's a lot of predators named after something like fire or some random object because we have only a limited amount of words to go off of in the pred language.

In complete honesty, if everyone's kid was named fire or merciless, it would be a real pain in the ass to stand out.

I much rather like the idea of making your own new name, and referenced Apop and Feweh's guides because they unlike a lot of others chose to avoid the predator name pool.

Though in the end I'm a dirty bastard, because instead of going fully original I went original and took the clan name from the pred wiki, something I didn't want to do but I did because I felt if I went fully away from the wiki I'd of been made fun of as a snowflake even more.

TL/DR The name hitler did not make a german boy into the a monstrous fuhrer, Hitler and the populace of the world turned the name into a symbol of evil.

To be fair most of the lore names for predators I've seen are fucking retarded. Most are as uncreative and edgy as a lot of marine nicknames. Just browsing the xenopedia page for known preds you get Dark, Scar, Spartan, Wolf, etc.

If your predator name doesn't take atleast one entire episode of Seinfeld to think of, you didn't make a good predator name. Aside from my Javier Weeter character who's name was just randomly generated, most of my characters on most roleplay outlets have taken me quite a while to come up with (inb4 "because chris johnson is extremely creative).

| Chris 'Jr.' Johnson, black former security officer. (main character) | Javier S. Weeter, your bravado white-boy/mexican leader. (main character on other servers, mostly SL/SO/XO and CL on CM) | Alana Parkinson, freshie to the Corps. |

Personally, I found a name generator for predators online and chose something good. I don't like complex/long names either, so I get where Feweh is coming from.

I do think that lots of predator names are long and stupid, so for my application i made something up, it doesn't mean anything, but who says a name has to?
