Nicboone's special events
Hello Cm community:
After becoming a developer here, it has been a goal of mine to run some unique events, sometimes involving unique gameplay mechanics, RP events, and sometimes special sprites. While most of my events will not be announced, as they will generally compliment the round and flow of RP, this thread will be dedicating to announcing upcoming events that are a bit out of the ordinary.
Starting soon, and coming on wednesday night ~9pm EST, I will be running the first of these events.
Objectives,backstory, and mechanics will be announced both here, announced before rounds, and looc'd to relevant parties.
HOW TO GET SELECTED FOR EVENTS
while certain roles will need to go to staff, I will be selecting members of the community at random. Those of you who keep a good record, a good rapport, and your notes clean will be preferred over those who frequently break the rules or RP. As a bonus, if I recognize your playername or CKEY as someone who comments in this thread, I will probably be more likely to see and select you for a role.
Event 1: November first "The fury"
mechanical information:
This Wednesday's event will involve a ship to ship combat mechanic. Command officers [Pilots, Staff officers, synth, XO, and CO], and MT staff [to repair the ship] will be required as important roles. required supplies will be sent on the elevator at roundstart
The event will revolve around a turn base, where I will play as the enemy vessel. It will play similar to battleship: with a grid [x] 1 to 7, [y] 1 to 7, and [z] 1-7
The turns will work as follows.
1: The Pilot will be in charge of taking evasive maneuvers. One must be located in the ares console at all times in order to assist with navigation. The pilot inside of ares will be subtlemessaged about his movement options and current location. he may move a maximum of one tile in any direction every turn, unless ship power has been destroyed.
2: A command officer will be in charge of weapons. Missiles will be sent to the RO office, and must be moved to the upper deck missle tubes. [on the tile next to each tube]. the officer will be messaged, and may fire out of one side of the ship [port or starboard]. this means you can only hit something in that direction. if you fire within 3 tiles of bullseye, it counts as a hit. do enough damage to the enemy vessel, and you will destroy it.
3: A command staff may scan a sector of either 2x2x2 tile for a specific location, OR conduct a general scan via the USCM fax option.
4. the enemy vessel will in turn do the same to you. where and how large the blast is located depends on the accuracy of the incoming ordinance. Expect frequent blasts in safe areas just outside of the ship. once the enemy ship completes its turn, we go back to step one.

Special circumstances
If anyone in the process is not at their post, or doesnt respond in a timely manner, their part of the process will be skipped.
You will be informed about the lore via AI and command announcements after the round begins. There may or may not be hostiles, or valuables to be won or extracted on the ground. The liason may have requests for you.
If enough damage is done to either vessel boarding parties will be sent in a brutal endgame.
Supplies and pressure gear will be a must, especially for mt's to keep the ship running properly. They can be ordered, but some will be given out before the event begins.
I will post a link to this thread before the round, as well as announce and looc specifics to relevant parties.
Be flexible, the RP of the round will effect the overall flow and direction of it.
No further information about the round will be given until the round.

I have no idea how this or future rounds will end up running. I will be asking fellow staff for a lot of help and oversight, and these events are bound to grow and change in the future. As a word of warning, rules will be followed a little more strictly than normal to keep things running well. Players who disrupt the event or attempt to ruin the round for others will be removed from the round. I hope to hear feedback here after rounds end on the general enjoyment of a round, how it could be improved, and additional feedback. Keep it relaxed though.

First thought was that this is 3d Battleship, but now I'm realizing it's actually more like FTL.
Fingers crossed this gets ship crew having some fun. I'll try to join in as CE/MT for this, I love to coordinate engineers, defences, and find creative ways to fix problems with the ship.

Sounds very fun and reminds me of the time the admins simulated AA fire on the Alamo during a CLF round, blowing several marines to bits and wounding most of the rest. It was incredibly tense.

Honestly, I am not too excited about this, if only due to experience.
The idea seems... Interesting, I admit, but I dunno... The community has been known to disappoint in the past in one form of another. And if the population is too great, it'll make managing it even harder due to the large-scale chaos that no doubt will spread throughout the main ship.
I do hope it works out, though...

Your defeatism is duely noted. I dont actually know how this will turn out long term. It could very go awry, and need me to edit the event. But I would encourage you to show up, and see for yourself. So what happens with the marines? It seems this will be very officer oriented. Do standards just sit geared up in briefing?

I do hope that I will at the very least witness it when the time comes. I'm not sure if I'll be directly on time due to time difference, but I'll be certain to at least attempt to drop in, provided nothing happens on that day.

My current plan is to have the round start like any other, gear up, get briefed. I did get some feedback about how announcements could work, and ran a very small scale round complimenting version about a week ago that helped me figure out how i could run it
