Veterans Day

Post by Thatnewguy1 » 10 Nov 2017, 13:31

As many of you know tomorrow will be Veterans day

Since a share of the members of the SS13 Colonial Marine family do serve in the armed forces and stand ready to protect those who cannot protect themselves at a moments notice, I decided to create this post so members of the community can talk about friends, family, or even their own experiences in the armed forces of their Country.

I'll start by talking about my Great-grandfather, Corporal Percy Taylor, A tank driver in early world war 2, who was stationed in Northern Africa.

I never knew him well since he died when I was 6 months old, but from what my parents told me he was a natural ginger with long curly hair.

Over the two years he was drafted, Percy and Johnson(the only member of his original crew to survive with him) destroyed 15 tanks and survived their own tank being disabled 3 times. The last time his tank was destroyed was also the last time he drove one due to the engine exploding and sending flames throughout the tank.

His face, hair, and right ear were burned severely but even with this, he was able to escape the tank. He spent the rest of the war in a British hospital, Which hospital exactly I never learned. He returned to America deaf in his right ear, a burn scar on his right cheek, and his long curly hair was now, as my mother described it, short strands of charcoal coloured rough hair.

Percy Taylor passed away February 5th, 2001 of natural causes.

God bless my Grandpa Alexander Santiesteban (We have different last names mine is Cardenas). He served in Vietnam a real Mexican hero who fought for the U.S. Taught me all I needed to know. He was truly my father figure. Rest in peace, and shout out to all the veteran heroes out there.

my grandpa was in the shit in korea and vietnam. he died in a car crash before i was born so i only heard what my dad told me about it. i know he was a master sergeant in vietnam, and from what i heard he was a total hardass just to his own kids, so you can imagine how it would be serving under him in real combat

my great-gradnpa was at the battle of the bulge too, not too sure what he did but it was probably cool.

ooh, and my uncle was deployed in west germany at the height of the early-mid 80s nuclear holocaust scare. he told me about how he got discharged for getting drunk and punching his commanding officer for trying to wake him up. he hated when i played call of duty at night, and it took me a while to understand why

I have my great grandfather and my great grand uncle who served under the Ottoman Empire during the Balkan Wars and WW1. My Great Grand uncle died during Gallipoli fighting Australians while My Great Grandfather survived.

Even though they were on the losing team, *salute.

Also 2 of my Grand Uncles died during WW2, fighting for Poland. They were on the western front, fighting the Nazis. It is a miracle how Poland did not fall in a day, being rushed by both sides by a margin of 40-1 soldiers.
