Tips on being a good squad lead.

Post by conthegodoffire » 07 Jan 2018, 19:36

So i have been trying out SL for a while now, about a week or so, and wanted to ask if anybody has tips on how to maintain a good squad. Or just general things not to do.

Sounds good, though I swear to god the hardest part of being a SL not getting the marines to listen sometimes, dumb asses love to run off alone all the time.

Ignore those. They either will stop playing the game at some point or (like myself) will learn the lesson not to wander off alone and spent two + hours dead (thats how i became xeno pro actually...)

You WILL lose squad members. Ignore them, as there's nothing you can do about that.

Focus on the "real" squad, those that follow you, or at least talk to you.

Yell a lot. Ensure being a good example.
Learn to coordinate CAS with PO
Learn scouting tactics and formation.
Love your SO and they will love you back.

If your squad starts to panic, be the last one to retreat
If you see an opening in enemy defences and your squad hesitates - be the first one in the fray

And most importantly sometimes my advices will get you killed in first 30 minutes of deployment... But sometimes you will get ABSOLUTELY INSANE moments that would have you go WHOA at the end of the round

Live, die, repeat. Never hive up

Don't forget to use your orders, they'll come in handy in heat of the moment situtations, such as retreating, or holding fast.

Yeah in general if the unga dungas run off against orders consider them gone. Let them die, do not attempt to save them when they inevitably get captured.

Talk alot be specific repeat commands alot. Ie."everyone stay inside the dome or ill shoot your eye out and skullfuck you" "work in pairs, work in pairs , work in pairs"

Even though its super lame get pfcs to pair up with a "battle buddy" because nothing thins numbers faster than strays.

Talk to command alot , just updates little info things get a good chain of constant communication going.

Hand out your flamers!!!! Seriously they are useful and you wont be on point alot of the time.

Gather up everyones mags and rounds before going into reactors and expensive WY installations because... itll be funny

Ignore the marines ignoring you : if you focus on them, you will only state in your squaddies minds that you have no authority. Psychology.

As said before, focus rather on those following you. Those are mostly the one that will lift you to the highest levels of the round, or at least, make you enjoy your SL-ride.

Discover and understand which SL you are, defensive, supportive, agressive, a mix of two or three? You are the SL that you are as a person. It's a part of you.

If you aren't sure what to do with your squad and command isn't either, find something for them to do. I always issue the buddy system, which lets them go out and wander around as long as they're in groups of 2 or more. Good way to patrol the grounds and keep your men entertained

Give your spec or engi one of your supply beacons. If for some reason you are captured or MIA at least they can resupply

Hope you have a decent SO, and be in touch with them the entire round. Keep tabs on what other squads are doing. Anticipate what your squad might need for gear, and order it from the RO.

Look for flanks with your squad; if you catch xenos within two squads, they will run or die.

Also, learn how/when to CAS, and OB.

The Muhreens cant FF burst AP your head, if you take all of their AP.

Besides, we have enough flamethrowers/SMGs/buckshot that nuclear reactors are no problem.
