CM? I love the RP, a large playerbase working towards a common goal, the Humanity-Fuck-Yeah factor when marines cinch a sweet, sweet victory, and the mass-application of superior firepower in an RP setting.

It used to be just because I liked the environment, and still is but I’ve become somewhat decent at the game, so thats always nice.

CM : The depth of the game. The deep mechanisms for each department. That, the RP and most of all one of the greatest communities.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
Did you just assume i like SS13? Only when my laptop doesnt freeze the game.
Its appeal is most servers have good code for RP on a space station, the atoms is good and all that. I dont think there is a good comparable one yet where you can truly RP on.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
I love the fact that random shit just happens. The formula of the game as a whole is beautiful, yet simple. You have a station/map/whatever, you throw in a bunch of people who have varying roles to play that benefit the station as whole when they work together.
Then you throw in some antags who have various objectives.
Step back and see how things pan out.
I've had some real boring yet productive rounds, and some insane balls to the wall insanity. You know how every game is trying to say "every game is different", SS13 embodies that trope.

Depth, community
I mean being pro MLG software developer, there is no way in fuck I can port it on to newer platform and keep the charm and depth of this game. Neither it seems possible to anyone else (see SS 13 .net)
That is an achievement of both developers and community

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
SS13 has a depth in its mechanics that neither AAA games have, which allows for several ways to play, practice role-play and so on.
We have memes, we have the clowns and, in the case of CM, Goon, and of Aurora, a good staff.

The different situations you find yourself in while also doing the same thing, some are fun, others are just interesting to watch.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
I like it for the stories it makes. Making a daring escape or dying a brutal death in front of your comrades. While it's just a few pixels on a screen some pretty great stories come from it. I remember being in a room full of demos on ice colony while underground. The elevator was called because we were losing ground, I got to type some horrible stuff into chat while being ripped to shreds after the doors closed in front of my face. I also remember an evacuation off the planet I had taken a Fire axe on my back. When we were falling back to the shuttle I got screeched and fell. They didn't finish me off but no time to grab my rifle. I killed a runner with the axe while getting through a swarm of Xenos back into the ship pretty damn heroic. It's even better if you make friends and rp shit with them.
Here's one more little story I had on Aurora station, playing as the only engineer with one apprentice. I help walk the apprentice through wiring Solars and I set up the supermatter with a simple setup. After all this is done ai hails me has lots of errors in its text needs help. After going on a bit of a space walk and talking to some frog boy HoP they let me in to look at him. Place is pitch black so I turn on my light to see the ground painted in gore. Go into the core room to talk to the ai. Ai says, "Hello Clancy nice to finally meet you face to monitor". I talk to him and it turned out a space ninja came into his core then died to its turrets. After the ninja blew there was too much damage for advanced systems like turrets or whatever. I get my apprentice to fetch some parts to fix it up but I'm interrupted by another ninja named vengeance yellin on coms how he's going to kill the ai for killing his comrade. Ai says I have to go, even though turrets have not been properly rewired. I get out of there but the ai gets its laws changed and now it's on a murder spree spawning Holo carps and locking doors. I ended up narrowly escaping a swarm of carp to watch them maul a chef only to get through the one unlocked maintainence door. I messed some stuff up with power and fixed the gravity generator and made my way towards the ai core. There I bumped into the HoP two sec officers the HoS and my apprentice outside the core. One of the sec officers was beating a bulkhead and when they saw me they asked me who I was so I took my helmet off and said I was the engineer. I walked in unweeded the bulkhead and hacked it open. Found out the turrets were back online and barely avoided some blaster fire. The HoS blasted the turret down and we were on our way to the core. There was a lot of turrets in there so while security traded fire with the turrets I fucked up its wiring to try to drain the turrets. I'm just gonna leave the story at that so if you read through it neat that was a bit long and boring. Any ways that's why I keep reading these wikis and forums, to see if I can make some better stories.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
Its really hard to put into words, so bear with me. I guess came for the realism simulation, game depth and its complex yet fun mechanics, but stayed for the RP, and most importantly....the people, a game that has a story forged by and around the people playing it offers different and chaotic scenarios each round, which gives it infinite replayability value. couple that with a great community and staff that actually care about their game, and arent money hungry.
TL;DR: im here for the memes.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
The point of SS13 is godly story-telling. Everyone stays so they can live through a tremendous unique round and tell their buddies about it. Like ancient legends and oracles and stuff. It's the cream of the game. To me, at least.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
I love how (almost) everything as far as consoles and other objects is functional and can be interacted with, as opposed to just adding to the visuals. All its mechanics are incredibly intricate as well, whether its medical, atmospherics, engineering. I guess I enjoy it a lot because it reminds me of older generation games, where not every game would handhold you to the extreme and things had to be figured out, because they weren't dumbed down in order to appeal to the widest possible audience.

Re: Why do people enjoy SS13
Details... so many little details i enjoy. Not just on CM but other servers i play. Not many games allow me to murder people in very intricate extreme ways like on para when i teleported the captain into the incinerator, or slowly torturing my target and recording a tape of it to mail to the detective, or dumping a hostage locked in a box in space with a few minutes of air and calling for ransom money.
I like CM because its more organised chaos where crazy stuff happens all the time and people tend to work as one or revolt and go full mutineer.
So many kickass stories and good times had
