Hello, I am playing Sarah, one of the newly whitelisted synthetics.
This thread is to assist new synths in general; post tips of how to play, things to do, or how to properly RP, as well as how to respond to certain possibly rare situations.
Also feel free to post stories of good interactions with synths that can be used as an example for how to play synth well.
Anything that can help assure that synthetic quality is high in all aspects.

Remember to carry a pair of welding goggles so people can fix you and not die. Also, don't overestimate your combat ability or tenacity. A small amount
of damage in each hand will easily make it fizzle out often and cripple you anoyyingly. Carrying a Industrial High Capacity welder obtained from hacked vendors is useful with it's 80/80 unit welding storage capacity.

Wait, no. Hacking vendors is illegal. You couldn't hack a vendor to grab one.

Re: The Good Synth
Industrial welders should always be in your possession, as they are always very useful and more durable than normal welders.
Always tell the crew about your location and what you are doing. This is essential. Synthetics should be extremely communicative during the round, no matter the circumstances.
About how a synth should act, you should already know this by being whitelisted, but if you do not know how to roleplay being one, watch the most experienced players playing. A synthetic should be disciplined, patient, harmonious, intelligent, be able to formulate a good grammatical structure in his sentences and in general, other characteristics that indicate his formality.
Being a synthetic, you have a physical body more advanced than those of humans, which makes you capable of not feeling pain, besides being much more resistant and repairable than a simple organic being. Use this wisely.
To conclude, always do something. When you finish doing one of your tasks, tell other players that you are available and always get something to do until they respond to you. In other words, do not be useless, always help when an opportunity appears, however simple it may be.

Re: The Good Synth
While I am just as new as you are, I've started to pick up on a few things. For one, just like Nescau mentioned, you should never be idle. Always be working on something, if the engines are all good, everyone is healthy, RO is running perfect, the FOB is Fort Knox, and command is going swimmingly, what can you do?
There are always messes to clean up.
On a more serious note, I've started to put myself more in the mindset of a synth while playing it. Before any action, you should wonder WHY am I going to do this, and how will it benefit the mission. If you can give a good WHY and HOW, then you should carry through with the action (saving CO from death, fixing reactors, cleaning) but if you can't apply it to something else (grabbing random gear or walking around aimlessly) then you probably shouldn't do it.
We're new synths in this together, Chowder, so it'll be a learning experience for both of us. Can't wait for a round where there is more than one synth spot available though, I'm gonna love the interactions between Mortimer and Sarah. Good luck!

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

If you're new and want to keep being useful the entire round, assist medbay. They ALWAYS need help with something.

A wise man told me that if you're asked a question you can't reliably and accurately answer, just smile and carry on. (Examples are impossibly hard math questions just to meme you, although having a calculator on hand can't hurt)
