Event Suggestion and Discussion

Post by Grimcad » 12 Apr 2018, 11:30

One of the things that I like most about our server is how frequently we do structured events, both big and small. But if you didn't know whenever we do an event we have to do every thing by hand, after the round starts. For example you spawn in a human, then you spawn in his gear, then usually, you teleport him somewhere. Any buildings have to be constructed tile by tile. And the admin who is running it is responsible for everything that goes on during it. As you imagine it can be a ton of work for admins to do. So lets make it a bit easier for them. If you have an idea for an event, put it here. No matter how outlandish or balance breaking its ok. Remember events don't have to be balanced any more than the base game does. But lets get creative, I would love to hear your ideas.

So I'll go ahead and start by posting one.

Lets have a small group of five or so deathsquad have a well stocked outpost in the middle of the map. Somewhere mostly unaccessable by both sides. Like Tablefort, or In the center ring of prison. They cannot leave their outpost until a certain time. The "goal" is for both sides (marine and Xenos) to destroy and take over the outpost. If the marines do so they get access to a Few suits of DS armour and weaponry. And if the Xenos manage to kill them they get access to either a few Ancient T3s, or a few Corrupted queens, that are on the Xeno's side. If neither side can kill them in the timeframe, a few more DS are spawned and they are given free reign to leave the outpost and do what they will (presumably murder everyone).

Thoughts? Critiques? Your own ideas? I would love to hear them all.

Nice idea, gives and objective for the marines and xenos with rewards. Prison station would be perfect for it in the yard.

I think prison might be best for it. Ideally on prison you could put it somewhere that cannot be hit by CAS or an OB. Make them work for it, you know?

I'd like to see an event based around the initial Xeno outbreak and the collapse of the colony. There was an event like this set on Big Red when corrupted ayys were first being tested but the colonists were too well armed which led to odd things like the relaxing situation at the bar right until the end. Although, the big problem would be ensuring that the colonists are well armed enough that they last long enough for some roleplay to occur but not too well armed that humans are relaxing in the bar or that the Xenomorphs find it impossible to wipe them out. But, i'm guessing that this would be on the higher end of effort required by the admins (in terms of balance, Colony specific roles) for an event which might be quite crappy.

I would love to see a low tech round. So basically older style weapons vs only tier 1 and tier 2 aliens.
Both sides would have it harder and the round would be more slow.

The second idea is the UPP who goes to rescue the colony instead of the USMC so everyone is UPP and gets UPP weapons.
It would make it a bit wierd since you have non default weapons.

A round with hand guns only might be interesting. Maybe limit the Xenos to only Tier 1s?

That's more of a lowpop event now that I think of it.

Eh, we have had quite a few melee-only rounds run by jerkface. It's just really frustrating because spitters/sentinels/praetorians/boilers can literally destroy you without you ever getting in range to attack them.

Personally, I just want to see an objective for both marines and xenos like, marines could be tasked with retrieving something in a xeno-populated location or something else along those lines to acquire reinforcements such as a PMC squad.

Xenos could be tasked with taking over an area/killing a certain human/destroying something sensitive in a marine controlled location before a certain timeframe for an XRT or a special xeno like a ravenger or predalien or something along those lines.

This would be a bit of cancer on the part of administration, but imagine this -

In each prep, there are two unlocked, fully outfitted attachment machines.
Xenos get massive amount of burrowed larvas.

Second cancer?
Xenos have bonus rate of evolve - basically in 5 minutes larva becomes ancient crusher.
But.
Every marine has a spec loadout. Literally every marine.

From more, lets say, achievable events?

Prison war.
Rather than spawn xenos, you get UPP that gets "tokens", which basically mean that they get certain amount of time-based spawns.
Shuttles that take new UPP groups to the prison?
If marines are decisive and fast enough, they can steamroll UPP .
If not, UPP gains enough manpower to claim whole prison and push marines out.

Balance skew towards UPP win to make it tough yet fun expirience.

Win conditions?
Marines lose control of both LZs. - UPP minor
UPP storms and claims Almayer - UPP major
Marines hold on for 2h - Marine minor [possibly massive PMC help at this point]
Marines are able to destroy beacon machine in base of UPP [under 2h mark] - Marine Major.

The attachments was actually done once. What they did was switch the vendors, so that Requisitions had all the guns, and the prep rooms had lines of full attachment vendors with no access restrictions.

I know this is very difficult to set up BUT

I've always loved the events where the almayer docks with a spaceship full of baddies (xenos/clf/whatever)

In general I've always like the events that solely take place on the almayer like the predalien ones, and one where the ship was boarded by waves of UPP. The almayer is a fun place to fight.

four way marine squad fight, all four squads spawn in each corner of LV, and get a fully stocked prep room with attachment vendors, and each squad gets a unique benefit: alpha in northwest would get stronger and more lightweight armor with night vision goggles for cave hunting, bravos at nexus would get a bunch of squad supply beacons that can call down ammo or weapons or whatever, charlies in north east get a few facehugger eggs, and when the ayys burst they are loyal to the grapists, and delta squad would get a predator hunting party allied with them, last squad with squad members still alives wins

Yautja badblood killer clan that makes use of tamed xenomorphs vs marines + a few predators, just a bare bones idea.

The Game is good. I want people to remember that.

As for an event. I always like the idea of new locations. A lot of the other server maps may not be 'big' enough, but I enjoyed those silly rounds where the marines stormed boxstation. Perhaps Deltastation would be big enough. it would for sure make more use of the c4 to blow open doors and walls.

It takes a lot of prep as far as I know. but having the xenos spawn in xenobio with a dozen or so monkeys in cages wouldn't be terrible. Maybe we get a bunch of blowouts and atmospheric alarms as walls disintegrate.

Adding the possibility of a second hive(Hostile to both marines and first hive) as something similar to how pred rounds work would add a lot of spice to the game in my opinion

OK, its impossible, but....

give any other server their whole round to prepare. Baystation, TG station, even goon station. as in let the other server know that the Colonial marines will be there to 'liberate' them in X number of minutes. roughly one hour or so.

Have the CM server marines prepare as normal but the dropship takes them to another server. This of course will be done through fairy dust and magic.

Combat between robust Nanotrasen loyalists and hardened colonial marine baldies will be something to watch.

That is basically impossible. Even if shuttles between servers could be coded (which even if it was possible wouldn't happen, because of the EXTREME potential for abuse), you'd still need the weapons and armor coded on both servers. As CM is closed source, that simply can't happen.

It's entierly possible, I don't have photographic memory to recall where I read everything. I thought it up myself.

and also, the fairy dust and magic might still make it possible.

I kind of like the idea of the squad VS squad. Maybe have it set up like a normal round. Send each squad to a different corner of the map and set up a small outpost there. Then something happens and the squads all turn on each other because of ...reasons. Turn off Latejoin for marines soon after they touch down and then just do waves of xenos after a while to end it.

I think more HvH interactions would be cool (Not that I don't love Xenos, I do), just the thought of charging a fortified position with mortar rounds raining down seems pretty fun.

I feel like the wave of events where twists and turns occur every 10 minutes are very annoying. Events like CLF allying with WY, but then WY uses xenomorphs, but then WY decides to attack the station with deathsquad, it all just feels like the event had a starting point, and an ending point, and we just rode along while the narrative played out, having no major impact besides the final fight.

I feel like the events that are very simple are the more enjoyable of the bunch, if it was just CLF forces on the ground, and the admins stepped back and just let the whole thing play out naturally, I feel like it would be more satisfying for everyone. It's very tiring to play an event in a role that has little impact, only to suddenly be killed so the event can get furthered for someone else, it just feels like you've been robbed of a potential round of enjoyable, normal gameplay, as well as a chance to play a role that would have been fun in that given event.

I'm not trying to say that the events are bad, it's just if you don't play line marine, you're rolling the dice on whether or not you get to do anything, or if you'll be fodder for someone else to enjoy the event.

As a sidenote, events where it's just CLF or UPP given a simple objective, and given the chance to interpret that objective seem to be the most fun for everyone.

Honestly anything that increases human vs human interaction would be interesting. Like spawning him 4-5 humans from varying factions would keep marines on their toes. This would work well if they get spawned after marines land and they arent inherently hostile to marines. It would help keep marines on their toes.

Ex: 1 colony survivor is running away with information regarding a CLF base on the planet and 3 CLF chasing him.

Ex: Three PMCs need to get six crates off world.

I have an Idea:

Xenos have taken control of USS Almayer, after taking out and infecting the vast majority of The 2nd battalion of the 4th brigade, the Falling Falcons, with the few survivors falling back to the planets surface of LV-624. After securing a makeshift perimeter, the survivors proceed to send an distress beacon to anyone who would answer. Soon after, the USCM battalion Dust Falcons, aboard USS Alistoun, would answer the distress beacon and send out a detachment to help secure the perimeter on the planets surface, instead of just nuking Almayer, the USCM High Command deems the USS Almayer to be too valuable to be destroyed. So, plan's on taking back USS Almayer, with the survivors of Falling Falcons and Dust Falcons begin to take shape. The invasion would happen from the planets surface, utilizing the dropships.

So, in concept, this event would work like this:

1. The event begins onboard the Normandy, where the last survivors of Falling Falcons would make their escape.
2. The survivors establish fortifications on the planet, with some supplies retrieved from the Almayer, rest scavenged from the planet.
- Meanwhile, the xenos have time to find hiding NPC's and nest them, producing more aliens.
3. Survivors send out a distress beacon, which the USS Alistoun answers, sending a force to assist the survivors to establish power and whatnot, to make a makeshift base to prepare for the invasion of Almayer.
- After a certain amount of time, Queen Mother would contact the Xenos about the impending threat from the tallhost, gathering on the planet

AT THIS POINT, TWO BRANCHES OF THE STORY WOULD COME UP

A. The Queen would send the Alamo back down, full of Xenos (At this point, the xenos have taken heavy casualities in boarding the Almayer, so they would not have t3's yet. So sending xenos down to the planet would be a high risk - high reward strategy)
B. The Queen would bide their time, preparing the invasion, letting the fight come to them.

Outcome could be on either side, with Xenos killing the survivors and the reinforcements, dealing an utterly crushing and embarrasing defeat to USCM, forcing the USCM

OR

The USCM takes back control of the Almayer, finishing Xenos on this sector once and for all. Drinks will be had and the commander would BE the Queen

The end..

OF COURSE, this event has glaring problems as it is, but hey, it's a fun idea in my opinion.
