No.

Disrespect, as a crime, is purely used by MPs and officers to stack time on people they dislike. They don't recognise the difference between friendly banter between people who have served on the ship for a long period of time, an expression from someone who just watched all their friends die, and proper disrespect. The source material in itself is filled with this sort of banter, as these people have served together for god know how long. This far out in space - in a 2d spessmens game - there's zero point in shoving someone in a time-out box for calling you a naughty name, other than to serve your own powerboner or to intentionally bait someone into doing something more.

Yes. It's so easy to avoid that it really shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, otherwise it'll be a common sight to see the equivalent of the "Captain is a condom!" meme for command staff used by privates every round. If you really want to go out of your way and let the one ordering you around know how much they suck, prepare for brig time because of it. Otherwise find a softer way of telling them it or simply ignore some of things you disagree with in a subtle way. In fact it's easy to avoid the brig, just stick to the law.

C'mon, you know it's not always like that.

But I kinda agree somehow. There's no real point in brigging people for insults other than making whoever was insulted feel better. Usually it doesn't even straighten them up (just look at the OP). We can always order them to stop and use insubordination if they start being a pain.

You're exaggerating too much to be taken seriously though, you should've expected the reactions.

Just because you look down on people doesn't mean they'll look up to you. Respect is earned, it can't be forced with punishment, you'll just lose everyone's respect faster.
And that last part, really ? At the end of the day we're all playing the same game.

Seriously though, there's definitely not enough abuse of the disrespect law to even consider taking it out. It's a normal thing to have with the command structure we play with. I have to say I'm surprised it's important to anyone though, as I've said up there you can formally order them to stop and get them brigged for twice the time if they say anything, so what's the need ? How do you deal with people insulting you IRL, do you call the cops ?

The "real military" argument has to stop, it could easily be applied to command staff too. If you can't deal with an insult without having other people imprison the person for you, who's gonna promote you to such an important strategic position ? Conflict resolution is key in war. (Now that I think of it, the answer is definitely the french army)
We can't expect people playing 2d spessmen (especially since CM openly allows all ages) to behave like real soldiers and officers, CM is still a videogame and not a real military, not even HRP.

I overlook it often but you guys understand you're talking shit to someone who is your superior officer

Would you honestly walk up to your Major or Colonel and call him a "Soy consuming low energy beta cuck fag"

You wouldn't if you didn't want to get brigged for it. And than you're going to say "I didn't think this would happen, why did this happen to me".

The best part is you people who say "It was just a prank bro".

Yeah, walking up to an officer and screaming insults at him is stupid, and it's even worse if people expect nothing to happen.
It's lowRP to insult your superiors, and if this wasn't a law, it would have to be enforced OOCly because otherwise the only thing stopping this behaviour would be BEs.

Disrespect should 100000% remain a part of marine law. It's the only thing that stems the tide of self-assured, arrogant and negligent marines who think they are the gift of God that doesn't need to take orders because they are flawless.

It's doubly entertaining when you are arresting a marine on disrespect charges as the CMP and then they start calling you all the names under the sun, because each additional insult is an extra charge of disrespect. It gets more entertaining still if after being brigged for X number of disrespect charges, the person then tries to call upon the officer who had them brigged originally to help them against the "limp dick pseudo fascist cunt cuck" who brigged them. Only to be informed they can appeal to the CMP. Whom they just called a "limp dick pseudo fascist cunt cuck". Then act even more suprised when the CMP denies their appeal.

It's also moderately entertaining to deal with ahelps sent in by marines who blatantly broke marine law who then try to get the mods to let them out.

Don't break marine law and you won't get brigged. It isn't hard. I've gone entire high pop rounds without making an arrest because people didn't break the law. Boom. Problem solved.

TFW you have brigged someone and they insult you so many times the timer goes past sixty so you move them into perma for 10+ counts of Disrespect.

This so much. The worst part is that you warn them, remind them of that law, threaten them with it and they still go on. Hell I usually go as far as counting the stacking charges out loud. And when you calmly process them they get all surprised somehow, some even ahelp it.

Yes, it should. This is an MRP server. Insulting your superiors is a very serious issue in the military, and enforcing respect and discipline OOCly is a hassle and has quite a few disadvantages.

100% Yes, in the army or any military if you disrespect anyone of higher status then yourself you will be in big trouble. Plus it would give MP more of a job since a large chunk of marines think it is ok to tell MP's, RO's, SO's,XO's, and any leadership of any sort to fuck off and will straight up not listen. I think we need this.

People who don't speak English get boinked very fast.

A lot of marines will respond if prompted. Just because they don't go out there way to speak to people doesn't mean they won't roleplay.

Sometimes people wanna chat, sometimes they don't.

I remember a lot of the "mains" who came being mutes until they came out their shell.
