How did you find out about SS13

Post by Thatnewguy1 » 10 May 2018, 11:11

So, I've been playing this game for a while now, it's not exactly advertised on billboards or tv commercials, it's just a random group of servers with moldable mechanics you can play around with.

I was literally listening to SoundCloud music when a ss13 copypasta meme popped up and spoken in a mellow tone about the randomness it entails.

So now I want to know how you found the game.

Looking for good games during the summer steam sales last year. Read about SS13 being great, tried it. I ended up buying nothing at all, I was too busy here.

Good topic idea btw

Well, I put in the search bar "Multiplayer, free strategy space games" A lot of stuff came up that was wierd, so I went to the reddit pop up. And guess what, someone put in "I can't believe no one has put SS13, it is free, and technically and space, and it runs extremely smoothly." So, I punched in the SS13 and boom, there it is telling me to download byond.

If the SS13 people actually put in like... 1 or 2 adds, SO many more people would play. I would have been laying this a long time ago if I had known about it.

I was at a friend’s and watching him play SS13. At first I had no idea what I was looking at, it might as well have been dwarf fortress. Once he started explaining the game and its mechanics (traitor rounds, atmospherics, destructible/constructable environment) I was hooked. I went home and downloaded BYOND, saw there was a Colonial Marines server (“oh awesome”), rest is history.

I was browsing YT one day, found a video of SS13. Finally remembered it maybe 8 years later (Which was during the first week of the first month of this year). Got beyond and joined my first round ever of SS13, which was CM. I would like to say that I wasn´t a TOTAL baldie, as I had experience with RP and stuff before.

But then the baldies would be everywhere. Servers would die due to the amount of players. SS13 isn´t made to have very many people on a server. 200 is the max for smoothish performance, anything more would break the server and maybe beyond as well.

I saw people talking about SS13 on a french gaming forum, and I thought "Yeah, let's try this game".
I've been playing SS13 since 2015 now, and it's probably one of my favourite game.

Found out about it about many, many years ago on the "Other Games" section of Dwarf Fortress. Somehow the idea of beating up clowns appealed to my pre-pubescent mind. So I played on a random server (New Eden? I don't even know), smoked some weed, beat up a clown as DF forums instructed you to ...and got brigged. Thought to myself: "What a shitty autist game, I need to re-evaluate my life decisions", and quit.

Fast forward a few years later, I stumble upon a Black Pants Legion video, and thought "Hey I know this game, maybe I should give it another try". I hop on the most popular server, which happened to be CM. Five seconds in I get my hands on grenades, 5 minutes in I get banned (I don't even remember what I did. Probably something shitty). Thought to myself: "What a shitty autist game, I need to re-evaluate my life decisions", and quit.

Fast forward to January 2018, I stumble, again into another youtube video (Boatbomber?) about CM, and though "Hey! I know this game and server". Been playing for a few months, and I still think to myself "What a shitty autistic game, I need to re-evaluate my life decisions I like it"

TL;DR: It was Dwarves and Youtube.
