Experienced Knowledge Thread
This is a thread where we post advice for other players based on things that happened to us, so our mistakes don't go in vain (or at least someone can have a laugh at our stupidity)
I'll start: when trying to threaten someone by pointing a gun at them, check that you're on AIM mode more than once. That way you don't risk giving validation for the other guy to shoot you down while you shit your pants fearing you'll be banned

You can put a machete in your helmet. It’s a big that hasn’t been fixed in a year and the mods don’t care about it.
Also, you can knock predators out with a boot knife and take their masks and kill them. Or with a claymore. And if you have throwing knives it only takes like 5 to crit an elite spitter, and if you break both a predators hands it can’t hurt you.

Some medical tips for people wanting to try it that I wish people had told me when I first started playing doctor/medic:
- It takes a few seconds for the scanner to register medication in someone's system after it's administered. This is why you don't treat another medic's patient, since you don't know what they gave them and might overdose them accidentally. And because it's just rude.
- Any amount of organ damage is potentially dangerous and should be treated. Don't look at 5 heart or eye damage and assume it's as insignificant as 5 brute damage.
- The anesthesia tank won't work on a patient with punctured lungs. Administer oxy and tram, fix their lungs, then activate internals if you have a lot more surgery to do.
- 'Unknown substance detected' is usually completely irrelevant, since it includes things like drinks and nicotine.
- The sleepers can perform dialysis and are how you fix an OD without a smoke purge kit. It also works on corpses so, in cases of super lethal OD like QC, it's sometimes easier to just let them die, stick their corpse in the sleeper, defib them, and stabilize afterwards. Make sure to have an IV handy.
- You don't need to touch the settings on the cryotube freezers; the default configuration works, even if it doesn't look like it. Just make sure you put a beaker of cryomix in before you use them.

Re: Experienced Knowledge Thread
To be fair 5 heart damage won't kill a marine per se, but without a constant supply of peridaxon it will make them go hungry over time, and thus slower and less combat effective. Also risking husking the patient in the middle of battle is further heart damage is acquired, rendering defibs useless.Retrokinesis wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 14:48- Any amount of organ damage is potentially dangerous and should be treated. Organ damage is the most missed out ailment of marines, and lots of them are released from surgery with it. Always double-check.
The first suggestion can be conjugated with the second: see, you can perform surgery on dead patients and fix their organs, IBs and whatnot. No need for anesthesia, naturally. Just don't take too long without a defib, least their time expires.Retrokinesis wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 14:48- The anesthesia tank won't work on a patient with punctured lungs. 99% of the times this is true. 1% it is not, as oxycodone, iron, space drugs and other substances with OD thresholds will also appear as unknown substances, and you won't know the current concentration in the patient's blood.Retrokinesis wrote: ↑01 Jun 2018, 14:48- 'Unknown substance detected' is usually completely irrelevant, since it includes things like drinks and nicotine.

- clear weeds and sticky resin no matter how long it takes, pushing through them is like a xeno running behind marine barricades and then wondering why they were so easy to kill. weeds slow you down a little bit and resin slows you down a lot.
- flare flare flare, can't shoot what you can't see
-if you're bored as a PFC and you're on FOB duty, see if you can find a wrench and strip some stuff for metal on the planet. you'd be surprised how much metal you can find and the engineers will appreciate it.
-take peoples armor off if you're bringing them to a medic to be defibbed and they're busy, the few seconds it takes could be the difference between life and death.
-bring a bayonet if you can, the extra damage really does matter sometimes
-bring a bootknife to clear weeds/any other obstructions (wooden walls etc). plus, you're much less likely to stab someone with a boot knife than you are to accidentally fire your rifle and shoot someone while trying to clear weeds
-it's usually not worth it to risk going anywhere alone

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. or if you're in medbay and you hear MTs are getting booze, prep some Ethanol/Ethyl, since those are better for treating drunkenness.Crab_Spider wrote: ↑02 Jun 2018, 20:37If someone is suffering from overintoxication (aka theyre drunk) just give them tea.

I might be wrong, but the autodoc can't combine surgery's, so don't autodoc someone with a shit ton of injury's since it will take forever and just piss off the other doctors and everyone else that doesn't have severe injury's. Just do the surgery yourself.

Re: Experienced Knowledge Thread
It depends. If a guy has 5 broken bones, it's better to stuff him into autodoc, because it's annoying to fix each individual spot. But if he has an extremely heavy stack of IB, Ruptured Lung, Organ Damage, Broken Bone; it's easier for the doctor to do it, since they can stabilise the patient faster than the autodoc ever will, and they can combine surgeries to fix all of that within 5 minutes.

Fun fact: SL's and Specs have enough engineering skill to build cades and wires. So don't push it all on that dead engineer you didn't bother to check on.

Doors have a wire that will open/close them when signalled (only if there are no access requirements)
I am waiting for the opportunity to use it to cut off xeno retreat via remote signallers. Probably good for survivors who can get em.
Also for maint-techs: You can turn tools and parts into metal by putting them in the autolathe. They don't give much, but they can sponsor the things you want the lathe to make.

You can refill empty injectors by dragging their sprite on nanomeds and taking them again.
Same goes with food/soutos, but you need to refill them in food/drink vendors, obviously.

You can dilute space cleaner to make it last longer. As long as the spray bottle has a bit of cleaner, the rest can be water and it will still clean.
Sandbags, once filled, are faster to set up than barricades, and stronger. You can fill sandbags with snow. You can pull down sandbag cades with an entrenching tool.
