Also Rex is a good boy, go CMP and cuck him as much as possible. Also Tess is ok, takes the law seriously, not agreeing with you on Knight however. He plays by the books and applies it to everyone, even MPs. He's the original hard ass and might actually be the cause of all the shit MPs as they try to emulate him.

As much as that may be the case, I would point out that looking for reasons to arrest people is part of the role. The main issue we have is the prezteling of laws to make some people valid, which I would argue that Jack doesn't do too much of outside of the flamers in prep room issue we had. Compare that to MPs who would brig you / extend time for anything you say that they could take as offensive, even passing comments. Sure Jack is a hardass no fun kind of MP but he still lets the odd joke pass by over the radios with no issues on hand.

Thing is, MOST of the issue is within the community itself. Marine law has flaws but it seems that not many people actually attempt to make MP an enjoyable role for both parties. Heck the current rewriting actually had me start replaying MP just because I COULD ignore some silly shit and just issue a warning instead of arresting them. Most marines just stop acting like fools once you warn them and if they continue they lack ANY ground to complain on. Also it really doesn't help when people take any opportunity to shit on staff and MPs whenever possible. We've already had one here do such a thing and attacked something that was a blatant shitpost.

Moral of the post I suppose is that if you want marine law to improve along with MPs, take an ACTIVE part in it instead of shitting on people and carrying grudges over to the game you wanted to play. Sure they arrested you, but sometimes that might actually be your fault.

Also shout out to Alan Jones. The MP who happens to have a CMP hover over his shoulder most of the time because he can't keep his hands off peoples asses.

I honestly don't know any good MPs or CMPs for that matter. Nobody I've seen play MP has a particularly good reputation for that role.

That's pretty much the problem with MPs and Marine law as they exist. The MPs have way to much power and OOC protection, while the Marines have little to no recourse over a power tripping, rogue MP. A 'good' MP is just one that doesn't go out of his way to bash people, and none of the MPs I've sen give too shits about proper procedure, tasing and flashbanging entire dropships of marines just to cuff and drag off someone accused of insub. And on the flip side, an MP had gone haywire on the Shooting Range breaking all the glass and covering every wall in bullet holes. The CMP saw the firing range, got a stick up his ass to try and arrest the CE for neglect in not fixing it, then outright refused to arrest the MP for vandalism after 3 marines came forward and confirmed the MP had been the one to destroy it.

Until MPs get their power balanced nobody is going to want anything to do with them, because even if a dozen marines witness a MP violate Marine Law nothing is going happen and if the marines overpower and cuff the MP they'll just get arrested or even banned themselves for an illegal muiny.

Pretty much. Don't arrest people for petty bullshit. Nobody likes going to time out, it's not fun, and it doesn't improve the round for anyone that you arrested someone for being a meanie bo beanie. It wouldn't be so bad if CM didn't also have insanely long timers. 20 minutes is a good chunk of a round, and anything that you would actually want MP's to arrest for, like murder, is often going to just be handled by admins already. MP's really lack identity if you don't want to be a dick who ruins other peoples good time.
Honestly the only time I felt good arresting someone was a case of assault with a deadly weapon. We got their DNA off the bat and everything, correlated it with witness reports. It wasn't he said she said for once, and we had hard evidence that they did it, and it was a serious crime that didn't warrant admin intervention. I ended up giving them a 'short' sentence of 25 minutes, which was cut short to 24 because of an impromptu bug hunt aboard the ship. Reason being they cooperated and eventually showed remorse. They had hit the guy with a bat a couple times because they just murdered their pet cow in front of them for no reason.

Tess Greed all the way. Doesn’t go out of her way to pretzel the law for her own agenda, brings Marine Law to the Xenos at the end of the round, will joke with you and i’d say is just fun to have around. Once during briefing I made a joke about her, she asked for my helmet and came back with it a few minutes later and had labeled it (Dunce). Also playing as an MP under her, she tought me about all the different tools of the MP, a few nifty things about Marine Law, had me Teargas myself (Multiple times) and had me hit her with a stunbaton. Overall a really fun person to RP with, and someone I have mad respect for.

Whenever I’m called into a scene, most of the time I tend to check the surroundings, as well as listen to what those nearby have to say about everything. But if you give the person in question the time, a good portion like to try and escape, whixh just cause problems. So i’ll let them say their piece, arrest them and then after they’ve been brigged to help pass time i’ll ask them questions about what happened, why they did it and if they would like to appeal. That works for me at least.

I would consider an arrest without evidence an illegal arrest unless they're being detained while MPs gather evidence. The hard part is usually deciding how many witness statements do you need for it to be considered viable evidence, 2? 3?
