Sentimental Moments
Clearing out the hive, scavenging supplies off the countless dead marines (specifically food) when I came across a photo inside a Delta's helmet.
I don't know where this helmet's marine was, but I had the sinking suspicion he was long gone - lost in the dark to nightmarish horrors.
An hour ago, the marine to whom the fallen helmet belonged to was posing with his squad buddies, ready to take on whatever menace that plagued Fiorina Penitentiary.
And now he's probably lying in a pool of his own blood, a gaping hole marring his chest.
A cool moment I thought I'd share.

Re: Sentimental Moments
The only thing close to a sentimental moment I have was being the last marine alive in the Almayer, scout spec from bravo. I decided that the last thing I could do would be resting the tags I had on me on the memorial, had to climb back up from the hangar, sneak past a hivelord and finally reach the memorial where I dropped the fallen hero's tags there alongside my helmet, saluted and was about to shoot myself when a xeno came in and the cucks infected me ending the round.
I wanted to put a cap in my head damnit.
I wanted to put a cap in my head damnit.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Elder Empress The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Marines would tell you. It's a Xeno legend. Elder Empress was an old queen of the xenomorph, so powerful and so wise she could use the plasma to influence all aliens to create life… She had such a knowledge of the xeno side that she could even keep the ones she cared about from dying. The xenomorph side of the world is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. She became so powerful… the only thing she was afraid of was losing her power, which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she taught her daughters everything she knew, then her daughters bodyblocked her in her retreat. Ironic. She could save others from death, but not herself.

On Big Red, I was the Alamo pilot with Ian Hitchkoff. On our last drop for evac, he got dragged off by xenos. When xenos jacked the Alamo, I took the Normandy planetside, found his lifeless body, and took it back to the Normandy, where we returned shipside on one last flight.

Re: Sentimental Moments
I have quite a sentimental round as Alpha SL.
After a hour and half of fighting on LV, 95% of my squad was wiped out. We held Nexus, hydro road, cargo and LZ1 alll by ourselves. Every single one dying by the minute.
I was so saddened IC my Alphas died fighting that when the FOB was being attacked, I held it with Reno, bravo enginner that came by, the horde of xenos as marines evacced.
I fought the xeno horde for 15-20 minutes, till they managed to breach the FOB and I die to an OB I prepared, shooting it on myself to die with honor and glory.
That was really epic and sad for me.

Re: Sentimental Moments
On a Big Red round I played long ago that I don't particularly remember much of, I still remember one part with perfect clarity. We had wiped most of the aliens and began sweeping the map of hostiles when I found a random marine decapitated and alone inside of Lambda. There was a joke he said back on the Alamo that I couldn't help but remember when I saw him, specifically commenting on the dropship chairs, saying that they felt like the warm and comforting embrace of a parent he never had. I dropped to a knee and hugged his lifeless body, then wiped my eyes and took his ID, promising to myself that his death wouldn't be for nothing.

Re: Sentimental Moments
I remember one of the times I was commander, the alamo had struck the ship and the xenos were melting into CIC, where I had been holding alone by myself. I had made one final announcement to the crew:
'Evac is active, everyone, get out of here.
I'll stall them as long as I can. Godspeed.'
I proceeded to hold out for 3 minutes with my smartgun, fending off lurkers and runners hopping out of the vents before the doors melted and I was swarmed. I distinctly remember hearing one of my surviving LTs over the intercom, wishing me luck and thanking them. I simply replied that I wanted them to tell my little girls that I didn't die a coward, like I had lived for the last twenty years of my life.
Out of all my holdouts, that one was easily my favorite, just because it's mixed between sad roleplay and intense fighting.

Three Commanders had deployed to this ship. One had already been slain in the crash of the dropship. As the majority of the crew escaped in pods. Two Commanders set up a makeshift defensive position and prepared to take as many of the damn bugs with them.

Re: Sentimental Moments
On an Ice round Delta was told to deploy on LZ2 on like 12:40 (first deploy was 12:20) so everyone in delta went to R&R and started doing Delta things.
Our time to deploy came and we left R&R (the whole room was a mess)
Once on the ground Delta was wiped in like 5 minutes and LZ1 was breached due to poor fortifications. Moments later evac was called.
Somehow i managed to survive that whole shitshow. When i was going back to the prep room to resuply, i passed by R&R. I saw the room full of trash, cards and mags tossed arround everywhere. It made me sad, all those marines, oblivious of their destiny, were just having some lighthearted fun before deploying. Now everybody is dead.
I cleaned up the mess and saluted before the alamo crashed on the almayer.

Re: Sentimental Moments
There was a round, a long long while back...As ever I was with Charlie, and the fighting was hard. It was LV, and there had been break out after break out of the Alien masses. Time and again Marines hunted them down after losing one or two to the lurking shadows. Time and again the Marines paid for acid with their blood. Myself and two other medics ran around, dragging everyone we could back to revive, saving so many only to throw them back into the grinder of that fight. Hydro always looks rough, but after that map it was a special kind of hell with the floor being more bodies than tiles.
Finally, it was over, and the remaining medics all gathered in Hydro. We looked around, poked at the fallen and after a minutes silence finally just hugged each other and cry emoted before they started stuffing body bags with whatever was left of their friends and squad mates. It was arguably my best round as a medic, the most frantic for healing and scavenging supplies, desperate last minute drops and resurrections to keep the fight going, near misses and narrow escapes. I don't think I've ever worked with a more professional group of squad medics all at once either, and it was obvious that it all kinda hit us after such a brutal round, and the very pyric victory that it offered, the entire tale told by the carpet of bodies on screen.
I wish I could remember all the other medics names.

Re: Sentimental Moments
I was the Commander one round. My Executive officer was keen on making sure everyone stayed safe, even if it meant risking his life. Time and time again, he would ask if he could deploy so he could triage, but due to an understaffed CIC, I had to deny these requests. He could barely stand watching his own men die. Finally, the creatures pushed us back to the FOB, and I had to call retreat. He asked if he could deploy to help evacuation, and I said yes. He was let down to hear that the Alamo PO has already launched, so he couldn't save the rest of the men he swore to protect.
Soon later, ARES gave us the message about the dropship. Our forces dwindled to a pathetic 10%. The odds were completely against us, and we had no choice. Once the dropship hit, we were to call evacuation. I told this to the XO, that one of us would have to stay. Without blinking, he made the announcement of his sacrifice. For once, I could see through his eyes that he felt he was finally fulfilling his goal. A noble sacrifice, and an honorable death. I headed to the evac pods to assist the civilians in evacuation, when I heard the explosions.
The Alamo had crashed into the CIC. The Console wasn't destroyed, but the Executive officer was captured. This meant that he had to slowly die knowing that he wasn't able to call evacuation for all the Civilians stuck on the Almayer. The only thing he could probably think about was that he failed his duty, and he would have to die with fact. A sad story. He almost went full circle, but in the end it was all crushed.

Re: Sentimental Moments
Bravo squad, a measly four marines, made their way down to Big Red for a simple distress beacon response. There were no comms thanks to a lack of engineers but we pushed through ETA and into the dark caves beyond regardless, a mistake had we known what awaited us. Before long we encountered an unknown alien force and we were driven from the caves. My own ass was so bloody, beaten, and broken by this point that my squad had to haul me outta there; our leader David 'Diamond' Stormwell dragging me most of the way.
Ship side a doctor patched me up, administering both meds and some stitches before giving me something more grim; David didn't make it, he died in the operating room across from me. Steeling myself I gazed through the glass, the sight of the sad corpse that laid on top a cold operating table hardly registering with me... a man who had saved me... a chest torn wide from the inside out... a desecrated corpse.
A squad of three rallied for the memorial, a meager assembly but yet it was all that Bravo had left. With heavy hands I draped his cold tags on the memorial and placed his weighty helmet on the ground there. A few brief words were said in his memory but what seemed to live on our breaths the longest was a vow, a vow to avenge the man who fell, a vow promised to the dead, a vow sworn as I cocked my newly renamed rifle- 'Diamond in the Rough'.
I actually have a few other rounds that come to mind but this one is my favourite so far.

Re: Sentimental Moments
There was like 50 Aliens coming up on the Alamo.
I have only 20 Marines left.
So I order everyone to the pods and to evac and that I will activate it from the CIC.
I only order the Synth to stay with me because I know I'm going to die and they cannot feel pain.
MFW the dropship crashes and the Marines actually came back for me and tried to evac me.

Re: Sentimental Moments
Once, I was a medic searching through a mass grave in the north east caves of LV.
Dozens of corpses, some still holding info-tags. I came on a decapitated Staff Officer who lead many charges. I brought him and his head back sullenly as I collected tags on the way.
Passing by a few other marines looking for friends and hostiles that were stranded in the caves.
So many bodies of all sorts of ranks and jobs. I earned a medal that I did not deserve for evacuating a LT’s corpse whom I respected.
Some say that if the dead could emote...they’d all be crying for the old man’s attention as he shifted through the piles.

Happened today, Me and Clint broke out of LZ 1 on ice while the aliens killed our fellow marines. We head to engineering then all of a sudden we get jumped by a mature ravager and a young lurker. I try to sacrifice myself to allow him to live, so he goes to the underground while i fend off for myself.
Unlikely, i end up killing both xenos just to go underground and find Clint lifeless body.

Re: Sentimental Moments
So this happened to me three or four times in a really thoughtful way, but the first time was … I felt it.
So basically,
I died and the person who found my body (before dog tags were implemented) took off their helmet, paid their respects and me said : takes Klaus' bloodied dog tags.
The other really sentimental thing was when I was B18, fucking shit up, got husked by a flamer marine in caves, got dragged to t-fort and around 10 marines along with the commander made a circle around my body trying to get me back alive... failing that they gave a brief in-combat memorial and then went back to their duties. Pretty heartfelt. That was like a year ago.

Re: Sentimental Moments
I had a sentimental moment yesterday. There was an annoying survivor hiding in the secured dome until the marines arrived on lv426. Later on in the round the marines were wooping us pretty good and had pushed us all the way to the hive in the caves forcing the queen to fight. The queen screeched and was beating back the marines while I was lurking. I noticed a couple of marines limping away infected and the survivor was there helping them get away. I pounce him and 1 shot his head clean off and the marines screamed in horror. It was a very touching moment to me.

I cared about your character that one time we were both in big red cave entrance and you were laying down claymores and then jumping on a m56d and shooting the crap out of whichever xeno stepped on it. I got blown up by an rpg right next to you when I warrior grabbed me then later in the round I dragged you to the lz2 to evac when you were down. Good times.

Ya I am Johan Blaine, you must have killed atleast 6 xenos before I got rpg'd don't know how many after. I thought we were going to turn the round by ourselves until shit hit the fan. It was fun.
