Miscommunication between staff and devs.
Devs made it so flashlights or shoulder lamps turn off when you die so xenos don't meta-drag you away from friendlies.
However, staff say that meta-dragging is lore friendly and cannot stop xenos from dragging corpses around.
What we are left with is xenos still dragging bodies away, but now without body lights on so now it's even harder to save that person than it was before.
Can something THIS basic not be discussed between devs and staff? It shows how bad the communication really is..

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
I don't know where you got that from, I won't speak for the Devs but I never saw spooky or anyone else calim this was the reason for the light change. The main reason xenos drag corpses is and has always been to deny defibs, though lights were factor.adrenalinetooth wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:04Devs made it so flashlights or shoulder lamps turn off when you die so xenos don't meta-drag you away from friendlies.
Regardless it has been in the game for several days now anyway, staff are acutly aware of it even if they weren't before - but I am sure that they were.
I don't know how much devs have to do with server rules, but it could be that they said 'we'll change the lights thing and then you can talk about making a rule against xenos dragging corpses'.

What I can say is that we know about the change and we know about the corpse dragging.
There are cases when aliens see people get revived (as in their status changes from dead to non-dead) by human action in a same way as marines can see aliens climb out of the vent to ambush you and so they can weld it.
There are still cases where we want xenos to be able to drag corpses anyways. Like if they die or hatch in the hive. Or if queen asks the hive to bring her one specialist (which in non meta terms will be a "longspitter" or "flamer" or "boomtuber") as a trophy that she in anger can rend

It seems like restricting it to drone and its evolutions is the way to go.NethIafins wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:35There are still cases where we want xenos to be able to drag corpses anyways. Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
maybe. but:
1) People will still salt (maybe even more) when COMBAT drone will go out of their way to drag some corpses under effective marine fire
2) Aliens that legit saw same person revived for 3rd time won't be able to stop this from happening for the forth time (not sure if bad thing or good thing)
3) What if there are no drones around, just queen?
4) Unsure if there is no better solution
In any case, good suggestion. Maybe make a gitlab about it

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
Dragging dead corpses has always been to deny defibbing, with the most common excuse for it being "muh shoulder lights". The devs made it so that shoulder light turns off when you die now, and they're observing to see whether they have to do more to stop the dead corpse dragging, or will that just be enough on its own.
On the staff side, everyone and their mother knows about corpse dragging; but since it isn't a written rules, you basically have some that allow it and some that, while against it, let it be because again, it's not a written rules.

I just talked to Chowder about it an hour ago in voicechat and confirmed from him that it was to stop meta dragging.

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
Meta dragging can either mean dragging corpses to deny defib (the real reason for it); or meta targeting a known marine player and drag him away. Normally, the latter applies, but when it comes to corpses, the former applies.adrenalinetooth wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:52I just talked to Chowder about it an hour ago in voicechat and confirmed from him that it was to stop meta dragging.

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
1: If I'm getting combat dragged by a drone caste I'm not even gonna be that mad about it, drones are squishy as hell and if they want to put themselves in harm's way to do that then let emNethIafins wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:44maybe. but:

3) What if there are no drones around, just queen?
4) Unsure if there is no better solution
2: You're really only in a position to get revived if you either die surrounded by marines and get pulled back by them, which isn't affected by this at all, die during an alien push and then get retrieved during a counterattack, which doesn't happen that often because the counterattack has to happen within like 2 minutes and actually work, or if you get ambushed and picked off, which is when you get corpsedragged off 20 miles into the caves and which is what makes marines play like such cowards.
3: if there's no drones, hivelords or carriers in the entire hive then the hive has blown it massively and the lack of ability to move corpses is the least of their problems.
4: Same, but it's the best I could come up with

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
The point here is that the devs tried to put in a solution to fix it, and it ended up backfiring

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
The corpse dragging will stop only when either staff (or devs) request other staff to police this behavior or if aliens are coded to be unable to corpse dragging.adrenalinetooth wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 03:17The point here is that the devs tried to put in a solution to fix it, and it ended up backfiring
1) were we told to police it? No, neither by manager+ nor by devs (including chowder)
2) did the change in code forbidden the corpse dragging? No. But it removed one of the reasons for it
Was it aimed to stop corpse dragging? It most certainly was, however, there are other reasons for corpses to get dragged. Not a small point to it is some people's inability to read changelogs for something that was changed month ago and at the same time never turning off night vision to see the difference.
But also crusher charges, defib when xenos see revival, clearing of hatched or dead marines from nests, trophy hunting.
What is the motive of this topic? To point that we don't listen to devs? This is can be proven false.
To question why we don't enforce it? Because we were not asked about it.

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
maybe just make corpses only draggeable after theyre undefibbable, and have them rot rapidly when nested (near the queen so combat nests dont make a return)NethIafins wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:35

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
The solution is working as intended. Xenomorphs no longer have to deal with Marine bodies being permanent light fixtures they have to dump somewhere
We are observing the behaviour of Xenomorphs in regard to bodies

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
So far xenos have confirmed what we thought that we do need to add some dragging restrictions.
Staff were specifically told not to enforce any rules about dragging bodies so as not to interfere with the test.

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
Except in the same round as thatupdate came I asked Spooky in OOC why not just disable body dragging like we suggested and his answer was: "We'll see how aliens will drag bodies now and then decide".Herac wrote: ↑03 Aug 2018, 02:28I don't know where you got that from, I won't speak for the Devs but I never saw spooky or anyone else calim this was the reason for the light change. Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
"Dragging of corpses by xenos disabled in the following situations: Uninfected defibbable, Uninfected braindead, Infected but braindead before bursting."
well that answers that question although I think the last one probably shouldn't be there, if they've been infected at any point they should be fine to drag

Re: Miscommunication between staff and devs.
It doesn't seem like a case of miscommunication between staff and devs at all, in fact they both seem pretty well informed of the situation. If anything it seems like a case of misinterpreting what's going on by some players.
