I recently played a round as a pacifist MT, who decided it might be worth scavenging the colony for some extra stuff.
I enjoyed RPing him very much, especially ranting at a smartgunner that the marines are getting what they give by outputting hostile energies into the world.
After staring wide eyed at a failed siege the aliens attempted he cautiously began to scavenge, and the smartgunner dragged his heels as he rounded the corner to keep me safe.
As he was filled with bravado an alien got the drop on me and he took it on only to get shoved over, I was able to run up to the marines and call for help and thankfully nobody died.
In and out of character I regretted the close call. Someone who could actually be the significant factor in deciding the operation could have died if I had wandered two tiles further away from the base.
However... It's kinda fun, makes a good story and shakes things up a little bit.
To what lengths can creating such drama be pushed? I figure anyone who played a CO who celebrated their victory over the aliens a bit too early that went planetside thanks to their dutch courage; only to become a massive drunk liability on the front lines would be discouraged given that they're at the top of the pyramid. I'm sure there are other shades of gray too, but I would like an idea of what is appreciated by other players as something a bit extra and what is too far.
When is it appropriate to jeopardize?

Re: When is it appropriate to jeopardize?
Well, you can still have fun and work within some bounds.
First, make sure your job is done. If you're the only MT around, you should stay on the Almayer and not do stupid things. However, if you're a Researcher, there is another Researcher, and there are like, 5 doctors, you are a bit expendable.
Secondly, make sure you're acting within your job description. Going around scavenging as an MT is fine, running around gunning xenos is not - you should've played a Marine.
And yeah, when in doubt, ahelp.
