Re: Name Your Top Flop Mechanics in CM
I have a few things I'd like to share based on some not so recent updates.
what I first determine to be a "big mechanical flop" was the [ONE HANDED UPDATE], an update that allowed all guns to be fired one-handed or two handed, meaning pistols could be wielded and shotguns could be fired akimbo if you so pleased. Seemed like an interesting idea at first, until you realize that not only did staff take an unpopular weapon (the SMG) and made it worse in comparison to other guns, but they also NERFED IT and made it no longer a one handed weapon...
The SMG, before the update, was a useful weapon for more non-combative marines like the engineer and the medic due to being a quick drawing, fast firing, one handed suppressing machine (it wasn't quite a killer, but it still did its job in suppressing ambushers). In fact, it was the ONLY REAL BENEFIT that it had in comparison to the other two common weapons of the marine arsenal (that being the shotgun and Pulse Rifle). But now, that one special trait it once had is no more... To this day, the poor SMG is less loved than ever, all because of a simple little "quality of life" update (that in my experience, is kinda pointless because most people don't even bother firing their rifles and shotguns one-handed all that much due to accuracy penalties...)
My second opinion of a flop would have to be how viewing overwatch computers worked. Back then, a commander could easily peer over the shoulder of an SO and see what he is seeing at any given moment, allowing the CO to collect visual intel without bothering his SO and taking control away from him. But for some reason, the devs removed that simple feature, meaning now the only way to see what an SO is seeing is to wrestle control away from them just so you can view their screen for a few seconds and see what whoever is being viewed is seeing. Funny thing is, if you and a friend are using a security camera, you are still able to SHARE the view without interrupting one another, and even witness the camera change positions in real time. Really wish I knew why this is...
And... That is the two biggest things I could come up with, really. There are a lot of things that bother me, but those two are the first two to come to mind, and honestly no one wants to see me ramble endlessly about little things here and there.

This made me wonder if we were playing the same game.Renomaki wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 01:51

Nobody, except for 1.5 people, was taking the SMG back then simply because GYRO was good. 90% of medics n engies were running a gyro'd shotgun. And the gyro m41 was still way better than the SMG.
how about you uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh try playing the game maybe? To this day, the poor SMG is less loved than ever
SMG got a buff and its ALRIGHT now.

Shotgun has utterly fallen out of use as the go to Medic firearm simply due to how you have too little space to carry spare ammo unless you start sacrificing vital medical supplies.
With the SMG I can usually tout three to four AP mags and two extended mags without compromising my medical kit to a major degree.

The warrior caste in its entirety tbh.
Decently tanky
Has a pounce stun
Its grab stuns and keeps you down long enough for it to kill you or delimb you so you can't even attempt to escape if you got lucky enough to get up.
If it fucks up somehow it can just become a runner and flee with all-fours.
It's just an incredibly annoying, cheesy unfair caste.

TBH, I'm fine with having 5 handfuls of buckshot; 7 if I get brown/black webbing. If you need even more, you can take two medikit pouches, and add buckshot to one of their medikits.Steelpoint wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 03:56Shotgun has utterly fallen out of use as the go to Medic firearm simply due to how you have too little space to carry spare ammo unless you start sacrificing vital medical supplies.

Ah yeah:
No verb for using Scopes, making it so you gotta constantly hit that tiny fucking button to scope in, and if you miss it you waste 1 round OR even FF someone. Hitting that button is like finding the clitoris, because its TINY

Letting the Tank have full use of its weapons on the Almayer.
Marines unable to be slipped.

No marines asked for the tank, it was the period where everyone wanted bookie hats.Blade2000Br wrote: ↑20 Aug 2018, 07:42I enjoy how everyone complains about the xeno gameplay. But no one touches on how instagib of a Tank at several tiles ahead might be unfair for beno players.
Or OBs you can't even see coming because devs already removed the only thing that was visible to then.
Or how Xenos got nerfed so badly on the stats rebalance Crusher is mediocre.
This thread is stupid and rarely have any good points to add.
Cool, instead of giving players a hat that all humans could enjoy, we got a tank two people can enjoy. Whilst it’s cool that they added it, I don’t get the appeal of appeasing the marine side with stuff only a total of six players can enjoy that’s actually distinct(Specs and tank crewmen), whilst the rest of the combat humans are fairly homogenous.
I play Arella Aharon, usually as a medic, MP, or occasionally, researcher or marine.

I really like where the SMG is at myself. The fast fire rate means that if you hit one shot in a burst, the others will probably hit too.
It's a combat t2, it *should* represent a significant front line threat without specialized game play (lurker) and the mobility/tank compromise of a crusher.mat13295 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 03:57The warrior caste in its entirety tbh.

I'm not sure if you have played a significant amount of xeno recently, but it is *very* possible to overextend and die as a lone warrior.

I typically will either use shotgun with 2 handfuls of ammo in armor or smg with 2 mags in armor. The difference is negligible, especially with the new shotgun shell ammo boxes reqs can send down.Steelpoint wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 03:56Shotgun has utterly fallen out of use as the go to Medic firearm simply due to how you have too little space to carry spare ammo unless you start sacrificing vital medical supplies.

This is because of how camera views work and rude commanders just barging in kicking out SOs from what they are doing instead of asking them. It was a requested feature.Renomaki wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 01:51My second opinion of a flop would have to be how viewing overwatch computers worked. I swear to god dad I try to do that but the SOs are just dead silent and won't tell me what's going on I have to sometimes shoot the wall next to them to get their attention please I didn't mean to kill him I was just getting his attentionspookydonut wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 12:32This is because of how camera views work and rude commanders just barging in kicking out SOs from what they are doing instead of asking them. Pre nerf prae acid spray. More broken than the pre nerf warrior lunge IMO. An entire squad wanted to push ? Nope you just acid spray that shit, slip and fuck up half the squad and the rest of the squad can just watch as everyone else gets dragged off. 1 prae could just hold off an entire squad by its own because compared to boiler it had a lower CD, no spool up, didnt have to be stationary and actually stunned reliably. Litteraly no counterplay and I abused the fuck out of it.
