Personally I want to try a surface hive on ice probably by disposals or the warehouse, but I keep missing the starting queen roll.

I honestly wish, as CO or otherwise, to be able to do a coordinated bayonet charge...
But most people would rather just run and gun than try to stab. Sure, acid splash is a thing, sure... But bayonet damage can be pretty deadly if you got like 5-6 marines stabbing a single xeno at once, plus being charged in great number would make even a queen shit her pants (after she uses up a roar, though).
A wave of 50 men all screaming with bayonets pointed towards the enemy as they run across the field would be such a fine display...

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
This is why Melee attacks should be less hazardous to use compared to PB shots if you ask me. The other problem also rests in the fact that Xenos have so many tricks to punish marines if they get into melee range. Being it hugger combat, screech, mass acid spray, Neurotoxic spit, Lurker/Warrior Pounce. List goes on, if your gonna melee can I at least get reduced Acid splash damage compared to blasting bullets point blank?
On to the topic at hand now.
As Marines. I want the FOB to be established in Solaris Ridge Medbay. Ensuring all other pathways are barricaded and guarded. Then call down MT's and Doctors to ensure the Medbay is fully functional and converted to be a legit FOB for supplies and protection. I would then seal off Security completely to discourage both Marines and Xenos from trying to use it for possible assault/recon.
As a Xeno, or in particular the Queen, I want to mentally torment/interrogate a squad leader. Probing their mind in a RP fashion of reading their memories, gathering intel, and making them telephone taunts/propoganda on the command channel.

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
Doesn't matter if the acid splatter damage for normal melee is lower, since PB punches the damage in bigger and quicker, so you risk less counterplay and stuns that the xeno can bring. If you try to bayo a Carrier 8 times (about 7~ to crit), chances are it will facepie you with a hugger and move on. But if you can just meme the Carrier in 3 cuck PBs (2 to make sure it's in crit), you won't risk much, as the carrier can misplay with its click and not hug you.Garrison wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 22:11This is why Melee attacks should be less hazardous to use compared to PB shots if you ask me. Touche, and I neglected to mention my marine plan was meant for Solaris Ridge, edited previous post to reflect that.

Escalating engagements. Dump all squads on FOB duty, then send one squad out first, reinforcing it with one squad at a time as it finds more and more ayyys.

I did something similar actually! It worked out really well until the xenos started melting through all the walls! If medbay had reinforced walls it would be absolutely fantastic, but as is people moan complain and throw the round if you don't do the default "lz1 and 'accidentally' send all the squads to one of the labs and hope its the one the xenos are in" if you aren't an extremely well known/meme commander. That is the problem with ANY fun/unique strategy at the moment, and what I hope the CO rework will fix.Garrison wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 22:11As Marines. Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
PB = pointblank. You achieve this by being on Harm Intent and clicking directly on somebody. This method ignores crest, and it's a large reason why shotgun (cuckshot specifically) has been held as number one in marine's weaponry.

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
The reason that medbay FOB doesn't work is because it's too open and meltable. You simply can't spare the materials or the manpower to guard every knook and cranny of medbay. After that, you risk total surround of medbay, which will result in your shitty FOB being picked parts by parts.LittleBlast wrote: ↑13 Nov 2018, 23:20I did something similar actually! Also, please don't talk shit about "default" strategy or "people moaning with every new and fun and creative strategy" when you have given the players no reason to trust and follow your plans. If you think medbay FOB is bad, think about every LZ2 FOB that basically says "Hey, just go around us and steal Alamo"; yet people still follow it. Just play enough, and don't be a dick. Understand that people want to win because they're investing possibly 3 hours of their day into one game; and act accordingly.
FOB in general is boring as fuck, since only the SL and the engies get to do anything as per job description. The rest has to either alt-tab or find their own fun.

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
I wanna build a [ ] __ [ ] __ -o\^|
Basically in a one tile large hallway, put an airlock, one tile with nothing and another airlock then an empty tile with then a cade and a sentry. Put a proximity detector one 1 under the second door. Hack doors in order to remove the closing timer of the first door. Put on the same frequency the following: on detection, first door bolts, second door opens.
Sooo basically. If an alien opens the airlock and walks in. The door shuts behind him bolted and the second door opens leaving the xeno alone in front of a sentry on burst at 5 tiles behind 1 cade.
Would murder even a queen.
Now I also want to put 5ish HEFA on the same tile before a screech and wait for it. Then when the queeno and the steamroll arrives, flames the HEFA from afar and rest a few tile away.
I suppose 5 HEFA will crit anything in the radius.

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
Giving squads specific weaponry loadouts to deal with specific situations.
Alpha having rifles with grip, stocks and surpressors for accuracy, they'd be assigned with long range combat and suppressive fire..
Bravo would have a mix but mostly rifles with shit like bipods for fob duty.
Charlie would have shotguns with slugs
Delta shotguns with buckshot and would be the rear guard for Charlie, stepping in if xenos pushed in on Charlie

Re: What are some strategies you have wanted to try but haven't had the chance to?
I've always wanted to try a drone-only hive, with drone castes and nothing else. Imagine the defense, imagine the hugger combat, imagine the stickies, imagine the tackles. Also, anyone who's not confident as drone can learn drone in that specific round too. But I can't blame people for not wanting to play drone, as it's a lot of set up until the fun part, and not everyone wants to wait that long.

Never said it was an effective strategy. I'm just imagining a scenery of queen screeching once and LITERALLY THE ENTIRE HIVE RUNS AT THE MARINES WITH HUGGERS IN THEIR HANDS.

then your hive gets invaded by dozens of infected marines you cant facehug stun anymore. well. i guess it might work out on lowpop, if there are any xeno players awake to try it withDefinitelyAlone0309 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2018, 07:56I've always wanted to try a drone-only hive, with drone castes and nothing else. Pain crit into nest. You're assuming that marines won't back the fuck up once a dozen of them has been hugged. Also, again, never claimed this was an effective strategy. Just a fun thing to think up.
You're also forgetting about the meme that is drone caste tackle since they'll probably have all 3 pheromones up all the time anyway.

you put them in nest -> they get out of nest and introduce you to their magharnessed friends without any sentinels around to neuro them down for you. while drone team struggles with nest boys, the rest creep up on ya.

9 out of 10 times a frenzy drone will land a tackle before a sent lands a point blank neuro, so uh the drones are fine in the nest guarding role
