Sulaco Protolathe and circuit printer?

What is the Protolathe and Circuit printer for? I cant make anything because theres no analyzer OR research levels, so whats the point of having these things?

Protolathe is for bomb making etc and circuit printer.. for nothing currently as RnD was removed

The Protolathe is useless without the RnD (it's the Autolathe)

I just use the Autolathe for making beakers and timers for grenades, the protolathe does nothing
