Subject of admin behaviour
I'm going to censor the persons name, because I don't know if it's allowed to post with it or not and I do not want to name and shame. If what he has done is against the rules or this persons boss wants to know his name, then just ask.
Story
I was playing Queen and we were having a particularly hard round, losing lots of xenos to humans and ended up being forced to harm humans to survive. I happened upon this admin, who was playing a marine and started slashing him, attempting to kill him. He promptly emoted "XXXX XXXXXX seizes up and falls limp, his eyes dead and lifeless...", I stop attacking him, thinking he's dead, a few seconds later he pops up and runs away. I reported him using ahelp, you can see the response in the screenshots. He does this again later in the round, this time though I did not fall for his trick.
In my opinion this is clear metagaming/powergaming, copy-pasting the exact death emote and using it to trick players into stopping to attack you. How in the hell would a marine that is getting shredded by a xeno be able to pretend to die?
Later in the round, it was dragging and we were nesting and hiving in arrivals, preparing to assault the ship. We caught three humans that tried to assault us, so we decided to wait until they hatched.
Same admin, initiates a vote called "Stop the turtle?" the vote wins, no one really knowing what they have voted for. He ends up calling a shuttle with a 10 minute timer, and thereby FORCING the aliens to assault with a time limit on them, having to charge head-first into marine gunfire, instead of taking the time that is needed to siege the ship. If we had more time, we would have melted walls, doors and other things to get at them from multiple sides, instead we had to attempt just bull rushing the marines. You can imagine how that went. This was an extremely unfair decision made by the admin, as we were about to assault the ship anyway and makes me question if he's just and rational enough to make these decisions.
I think this sort of behaviour, attitude and play-style does not befit an admin of a medium-roleplay server and I wonder if this is what one should expect if playing here?

*deathgasp is a valid emote. If you don't want to be fooled by it, simply examine your target.
As for the shuttle, I am sure the admin will explain his or her reasons.

If you would permaban a player, you owe it to him to look into his logs and hear his side of the story. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the player does not deserve to be banned.

1. Make an admin report, if something like this bothers you ... Not a general topic.
2. It's not meta/powergaming because, as mentioned .. Deathgasp is a valid emote to use, and if you even doubted for one second that he was actually dead you could have just examined him.
3. The aliens are never 'forced' to assault anything. It's just preferred/an option when the marines 'turtle' since they don't organize themselves beyond much more than a rudimentary defense force on the sulaco.

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
the shuttle was due to both sides turtling and some people were getting bored, the xenos were camping arrivals pulling people, and the marines were in the sulaco hangar and in the pods waiting,as i saw that both sides werent going to move i simply put a vote up to see if people wanted to stop them from turtling and give them an incentive,so i pulled the shuttle card once they voted.
As it would give the marines a chance to escape, and make the xenos move instead of camping arrivals
The marines had also given multiple reports to central which they said that they were running out of numbers, and central agreed to put a shuttle on standby for the future.
In the end,i saw that no one was going to make a move and allowed the people to vote
Either way, since it seems that it had a negative impact on some,i wont pull any more maneuvers to stop people from turtling.
As for the deathgasp, multiple people use it,also its not hard to pretend to die unless you get tickled or are in pain, simply stop moving and lie Limp

On a medium-rp server, regular human beings, are able to pretend being dead, while a xeno is ripping his guts out?Felkvir wrote:

We are if we actualy want to get a major victory, have the fun of sieging the human 'hive' after having won against them on the station.Felkvir wrote:

You couldn't just have asked the queen when we were going to assault, instead of going straight to the "Call the shuttle button"?coroneljones wrote:the shuttle was due to both sides turtling and some people were getting bored, the xenos were camping arrivals pulling people, and the marines were in the sulaco hangar and in the pods waiting,as i saw that both sides werent going to move i simply put a vote up to see if people wanted to stop them from turtling and give them an incentive,so i pulled the shuttle card once they voted.

And for the record, we hadn't been turtling. We fought tooth and nail the entire round and only started winning towards the end, we were waiting for our last hosts to hatch before assaulting, which would have been a few more minutes.
Our siege was ruined and all our hard work fighting the marines and building up for the assault was taken away.
We won, but it was a bittersweet victory because we didn't get to finish it on the terms we should have been able to.

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
On two notes,i only say the xenos wait in arrivals with some of them saying "quick get him from the shuttles and go out"
A sign showing that they werent going to move and instead wait for things to happen, such as marines coming to them,I could have accepted that you were preparing to strike if it showed, such as weeds and resin on the shuttle,or huggers or simmilar, what i saw was simply camping arrivals, waiting for the marines to go on the shuttle and then get taken.
And the shuttle escaping still signals a xeno victory.

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
Just gonna say a few things...... from a quick read of this..
1) Seems more like a complaint against said admin.( As stated above )
2) I have no idea why this is in general discussions as there is nothing to discuss due to it being a complaint. ( What i mean by it being not a discussion is.. this is more for the admins to discuss not the community of the server. )
3) As far as playing dead is concerned i'm fairly sure you can play dead even if being shredded up.. well what i'm trying to say is if you are being shredded up aren't you more likely to A) Pass out from blood loss (Giving the impression of being dead) B) Pass out from the pain (Giving the impression of being dead)
but yeah those are a few opinions on this..( No offence is intended by this )

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
What the admin/player did wasnt actually Meta... It's actually power-gaming the shitty SS13 system.
Power-Gaming isn't against the rules, just more frowned upon because the whole BYOND engine is easy to take advantage of.
Mildly upsetting to hear that a Admin was doing this though.

I'll have to disagree with you. The *deathgasp emote is there for a reason. Using it is not powergaming, it's just... Gaming.Pink wrote:What the admin/player did wasnt actually Meta... It's actually power-gaming the shitty SS13 system.

Adapting yourself to a system (such as BYOND's engine) in order to be efficient and/or better than others, especially when there is some kind of competition involved (such as aliens vs. marines) is nothing to be ashamed of. That's how the world works and, for example, in an workplace environment that's the boundary that separates common professionals from great professionals.

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
Even if there is competition involved this isn't just a deathmatch server where you can just abuse every single inch of the system to get the upper hand. This is a roleplay server and therefore one cannot just adapt himself to the Byond system and do things they wouldn't be able to do irl.
But in this case Penguin has a point in that an alien shredding a person could make him pass out to blood loss or pain, but in that case said person would be one inch away from death anyway probably so... meh, this is a controversial topic.

Re: Subject of admin behaviour
Can I just point out this is not the proper place for this really... If anything this should be a admin complaint. General discussions is not the place to bitch and moan about our staff or playerbase. Its a place to have server related topics and fun. We have other parts of the forums for this so please use those instead.

It's more about having a discussion about what is allowed and how admins act in the server.SASoperative wrote:Can I just point out this is not the proper place for this really... Re: Subject of admin behaviour
Well we have a code of conduct for that sort of thing in the announcements and it sums up pretty much what staff HAVE to go by so if anything just look at that instead.AlanDemarest wrote: It's more about having a discussion about what is allowed and how admins act in the server.
