Opinions on the staff

Post by Lostmixup » 21 Aug 2015, 17:21

So is there anything we can do to be better staff in general for you guys? I've always been curious what you all think about how we do things. Try to keep it civil of course, and keep all criticism constructive.

Let us break rules and get away with it so we don't have to be salty about being banned for over 10 separate incidences of breaking rules and disrespecting staff and using our brother's ckey to bypass said bans.

Alright, I can do that. However, I'll need you to also break more rules.

I haven't had any problems with the staff. Well, I yelled at you once I think about the Ripley issue. Sometimes the enforcement can be a little obtuse.

I don't know, I've never really gotten PM'd in game for rule breaking, so I can't feedback on that.

Are we effective? If not, how can we be more effective? Does Apop need to ban people on sight? Should we all let aliens do whatever? Ask yourself these kind of questions and reply :3.

Hand targeting isn't meta, it's powergaming. Hands are too small a target and nobody anywhere ever targets hands in combat. The only reason xenos do it is because they're aware that the game code allows them to break hands easily and once broken take a while to fix.

Be more open to things, such as suggestions, I get that you guys are staff and your opinions matter, but you guys seem very closed-minded when it comes to thing's such as marine's using Ripley's, or adding a much necessary Janitor role... Try to remember that you are trying to make the game fun for the PLAYERS, primarily of which are Marines, it just seems like you constantly kick the marines in the groin while feeding the Alien's caviar (I put crambolai before because idfk what I was thinking.)

No, this is a TACTIC.

Just like Human's IF they wanted to disable another human they would go for the leg's or hands.

Power-gaming is performing two surgeries at once, bringing 5 gun's with you or having 3 extra helmet's in your backpack.

Powergaming is also targeting hands because you know they'll break. You don't target hands as MP because you know that won't subdue them. Name one fighting style ever that attacks hands.

We're closeminded for preventing people to take cargo mechs into battle?

It's almost like we're taking the alien side's fun into account when we're enforcing this rule.

But not taking Marine fun into account when you continue to buff aliens, like the Crusher that can withstand a fucking warship BOMBARDING IT WITH KINETIC CANNONs.

Balance is not underneath my purview to handle, nor am I interested in discussing the value of it.

I enforce the rules that I am told to enforce.

I have one advice for stuff and developers in general. Try to not increase amount of rules. It's worst thing you can do. If aliens/marines found new way of powergame/meta, don't add this in rule, esspecially blurred rules, that have differing interpretations. Simple example:
Building Defenses on the Sulaco - Marines may not build defenses on the Sulaco before the Queen sends/receives drop pods/shuttles for the first time. Doing so is to be treated as metagaming and may be punished with a ban.
Nothing said about situation, when marines already had aliens running on Sulaco, who sneaked on leaving shuttle. And by the way, if think logically in IC, this rule forbid marines building defenses at all, cause how marines IC can find out, that alien Queen send shuttle? They can't. We don't have system on consoles, that shows from which console was last interaction and what ID was used. Only Queen and admins can say for sure, that Queen sent shuttle.

So, what I wanted to say:
  1. Don't generate not distinctly formulated rules;
  2. Try forbid Meta/powergame through game mechanics.

More rules only means more rule breaking. Intentional or not, doesn't matter.

My general preference and request is to keep USCMC Command messages in-characters and serious.
When we lost half the men- hearing "oh, and go save the dog" just makes me wanna shoot my character in the head.

P.S. Also go easy on OOC.

We do try to fix things with code as much as we can, instead of rules.

Eh staff seems ok, although seeing appeals, reports and etc can make them look wrong in a way, but look more right, depending on how the person views it

This is good feedback here. Telling us exactly how we can go about doing our business to make sure this is a fun experience is more specific and it tells us what issues need to be addressed with the current flow of gameplay.

Appreciate it, Jes.
