Rankings of roles
I've seen a big point of confusion being what rank each job holds. I'd especially like to hear what Apophis himself would say about it, being a military man, but it'd be great if the community would chime in. This is what I've been going off from a RP respective.
standard/medic/engineer: Private
Specialist: PFC?
Squad Leader: Sargeant.
RO: Sargeant?
MP: ???
BO: Ensign?
XO: Lieutenant
Commander: Commander
Those are the main ones. Anything with a ? is my own personal guess, while the others are more based on real world examples. I think having this list on the forums would definitely help with RP.

Re: Rankings of roles
I'm not going to make a guess on some of these. Though rank is normally never involved in this, mostly role. I feel ranks should have some implementation though, c;

Re: Rankings of roles
Specialist would probably be corporal
MP would also probably be around a Sergeant or Corporal
BO I would say is a Second Lieutenant
RO I would say is right with Sargent
Pretty sure Ensign is only for the navy if I remember correctly basically the 2nd LT for the navy. Seeing how we are dealing with marines here then that would be the ranks I am pretty sure.

Here's how I sort of view the ranks:
You know, maybe I'll come up with the proper "ranks" for this...

Standard above all - godEdgelord wrote:I've seen a big point of confusion being what rank each job holds. specialist below that - demi god
medic and engie about here - emperor's
RO here - king
CO here - queen
XO Here - That hobo that tells you "the end is near"
Liason Here - the town jester
MP here - that kid in class who tells on you for stuff
Squad leader here - that dude who tries to tell you to do stuff but you ignore him.
And that's about the chain of command in a nutshell.
All jokes aside, the actual ranks wouuld probably be marines at the bottom possibly including medics and such, the specialist above that, then it goes in the more obvious order.

Maybe it could replace the current religion/place-of-origin information and show up on your ID or something.

Re: Rankings of roles
Actually, Marines go by a different rank structure.
Standard/Medic/Engineer/Specialist/MP: PFC/Lance Corporal/Corporal.
Squad Leader: Corporal/Sergeant/Staff Sergeant.
Cargo Tech: PFC/Lance Corporal/Corporal.
Requisitions Officer: 2nd Lieutenant/1st Lieutenant.
Maintenance Tech: PFC/Lance Corporal/Corporal.
Chief Engineer: Master Sergeant/Warrant Officer/Chief Warrant Officer.
Medical Doctor (RL, they'd be naval personnel): Ensign/Lieutenant Junior Grade/Lieutenant.
Chief Medical Officer (RL, naval): Lieutenant/Lieutenant Commander/Commander.
Bridge Officers: 2nd Lieutenant/First Lieutenant/Captain.
XO (Probably naval): Lieutenant Commander or Major.
CO (Probably naval): Commander or Lieutenant Colonel, might even be a Colonel in some instances.
Standard/Medic/Engineer/Specialist/MP: PFC/Lance Corporal/Corporal.

XO and CO would be the platoon leads as Sulaco's compliment is, in fact, a platoon. A platoon minus, really, given the lack of weapons team.
Why a platoon has their own ship is a mystery, but hey.

A Second Lieutenant would not be given their own ship.Gamerofthegame wrote:XO and CO would be the platoon leads as Sulaco's compliment is, in fact, a platoon. A platoon minus, really, given the lack of weapons team.

Hell, if we were doing this correctly, the Sulaco crew (Requesitions, maint techs, medical staff, most of the commander staff) would be naval personnel, as opposed to being Marines, because of the acronym:
My
Ass
Rides
In
Navy
Equipment

The USCMC, in lore, is a self-contained combined unit. Everyone onboard the USS Sulaco, bridge crew, techs, doctors, every single human being staffing that vessel is a marine.

Re: Rankings of roles
The term, "Marine," denotes naval infantry, when it comes to military systems. I bet the lore is too lazy to explain that, but that's how it is. The purpose of Marines are to serve as a infantry combat arms element for a naval force, and it wouldn't make sense for them to run their own ships unless in the lore, the US Navy has been disbanded.AncientV25 wrote: No, they wouldn't.

Re: Rankings of roles
In the lore, there -is- no US Navy listed.
The UAAC(United Allied Americas Command) has two branches known. The US Army, and the USCMC.
There is no evidence in any of the comics, movie, or anything remotely related to the USCMC or UAAC that hints at a US Navy.
If we're also going to go by the colonial marines game(as bad as it played), the commanding officer of the USS Sephora, and his bridge crew, were marines.
Furthermore, the USS Sulaco is listed as 'in service with the USCM'. Do I need to go on?

That's because it's not called the Navy, it's called the United States Aerospace force. It's a conglomeration of the roles of the Airforces and a space-based navy.

But yes, the Conestoga class troop-ship IS a marine-assigned class of vessel. Assuming this is because they're used in naval-landing type roles, which is the primary use of Marines. Generally, I'd assume that destroyers, frigates, tenders, carriers and other main-line ships would be Aerospace assigned
(also, the USN DOES appear in the Aliens: Colonial Marines comic books)
