Been looking into mapping & spriting recently for BYOND, and maybe also some code, which I hear helps with both.
Are there any languages I should get to know the basics of before starting with BYOND?
And can anyone direct me to some guides on how best to utilize DM for mapping & spriting?

I suggest Ruby, Rahlzel suggested it to me. It's more sensitive with coding and keeps you on your toe.

The way I learned DM (A little bit of it) is by downloading /tg/ codebase, simply looking at the code and copy/pasting it to tweak it.
