What roles, if any, do you think are missing from CM?

Alternatively, POs need a small increase to their medical skill so they can use a health scanner and auto injectors without fumbling or being ID locked.FGRSentinel wrote: ↑13 Dec 2018, 08:43A paramedic to assist with CASEVAC. Basically a medic that's able to operate the Medevac winch and stabilize critical patients for the doctors.
OR
Doctors are granted knowledge on how to use the CASevac winch. So if there's no co-pilot, they can at least coordinate with the Pilot for optimal efficiency in med-evac.

Technically the winch requires a 1 in the piloting skill, so giving the Doctors the ability to use it would require either giving them piloting skill or making the winch require medical skill, which the PO completely lacks.

Guess giving doctors PO skills is out. Last thing we want is doctors piloting the ship.
CMO, maybe, but that would be a stretch. Plus I have concerns it would promote improper behaviour for the role.

Platoon Leader.
There is no reason a naval officer would be in charge of a marine platoon outside of extreme circumstances.
Realistically the role is filled (in-game) by the ship's commanding officer but it remains highly nonsensical.

I mean, if you want to split hairs on that, it could be argued that only Staff Officers make sense as leading Marines since the rank of LT is the only one besides Captain shared by the USMC and the US Navy in real life. On the other hand, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the highest ranking member of the Marine Corps in real life, answers to the Secretary of the Navy as the Corps is a component of the Navy.
Back on topic though: MAYBE a Surgical/Medical Equipment Technician who's job is to maintain and operate specialized machines in Medbay like the Autodoc (perhaps being able to modify the programs it can run to optimize them, add new ones, or just have access to a system to operate multiple autodocs simultaneously) and other unique toys.

Re: What roles, if any, do you think are missing from CM?
If CM ranks were to make sense the Almayer would have its own Navy captain, the POs would also be Navy personnel and there would be a separate commanding officer for the marines - a colonel if its a battalion or a captain for a company because there are never enough ungas for a battalion. Marines dont actually "own" any ships even in real life, the ships are all Navy.
For the purposes of this game though even one CO is already often ignored and USCM apparently values their officers too much to actually send them down into combat, they'd just get FF'd anyway

Let's be real, each "squad" is more like a platoon on highpop. The SOs are like the platoon leaders.

I've always assumed the Almayer's captain was a navy officer tbh.

This is nonsense as the only thing shared between a marine and navy LT or CPT is the rank name; they're not even remotely the same pay-grade.
Either way I agree with the general consensus above that despite that how unrealistic the command structure is ...it doesn't really affect the game and although someone striving for accuracy would be pained by CM's military hierarchy and representation it doesn't actually have much of an impact on the game and is therefore not worth worrying about... I can dream though.
