What roles, if any, do you think are missing from CM?

Let me start off with this: I'm not saying CM is bad in any way. In fact, I love this server and its unique mode of play as well as the amazing RP I have encountered on a daily basis here. However, I do like to exercise my creative juices and I encourage others to do so as it's healthy for the body and soul. This is also not intended to be a suggestion, purely a creative thought process as I enjoy talking about this kind of stuff. Furthermore, I'd be open to discussion of ideas as to roles that could be added to normal SS13 game modes as well if anyone is game for that sort of thing.

Some roles I think might fit:
Ammo bearer: In real life militaries, there are combat troops dedicated as ammo bearers which bear extra ammo for the squad as well as for the light machinegunner specifically, as those weapons (ie M249, M240B) weigh a considerable amount on their own.

Support marine: Perhaps this marine could carry stimpacks or smoke grenades or something to that effect.

With the above two suggestions, I'm not saying every marine needs to be a special snowflake. We already have SL/Eng/Spc/Med, but it could add a few more options instead of SL/eng/spc/med/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar/mar squads. This always could be a roleplaying thing as well.

Scout/pathfinder: A marine not found in a squad but perhaps a limited number which could be sent ahead of the main force and intended less on fighting and more on observation. Could deploy throwable cameras which would run on a limited battery and perhaps with a verb and some time (2 minutes?) they could camouflage themselves in an outdoor environment until they move/speak higher than a whisper/attack.

What sort of roles can you come up with?

-Tonguer (Tonguer who uses its tongues in order to capture a victim and drag him to the Tonguer [Sentinel Unit])
-SKULL (Hardened Body, but not hard as the Crusher.. But, harder than the Crusher. Can turn invisible and run at a high speed, however has a low attack [Hunter Unit])
-Mole (Mole who crawls under the ground [except Sulaco] and can drag people to be stuck in the ground [Ravager Unit])

RANDOM RANDOM RANDOM
-Time Traveler (Time Traveler who travels from the 21st Century by accidental)
-Research Director of Lazarus's Landing (Has all access in the area and is only, and I MEAN, ONLY FOUND, in the Weyland Yutani Research Underground Facility)
-Traitor (A Traitor Among Marines [Not Command Staffs or Doctors or Squad Leaders, just the Marines] who only schemes to succeed in his plan given by the Weyland Yutani. May not go on a ricochet against marines for no reason.)

I agree with everyone's opinions above, these would all be awesome new additions to the server, marine squads would eventually become either unique or smaller. Proving to be less messy and disorganized and more effective. Also giving Xeno's new abilities that the Marines would find troublesome to counter.

Perhaps we can dismantle and refurbish a specific squad and reform them as 'Commandos/Special Ops'? Obviously setting up a whitelist for individuals who can role play, preferably staff recommendations and applications approved by staff. Just something I'd really like to see, or perhaps have them optional late game instead of just random death squads such as the Iron Bears. (Yes I know there is Commandos, but I've never seen them in all my rounds of Colonial Marines) -Green being the color change for said Commandos/Special Ops

On another note, there was two specialists in the movie. I would love to see two specialist squad positions, so that the efficiency is increased. So you've got a smartgun Specialist and a Flamethrower Specialist. Honestly the Specialist position is really rare, yet mostly craved by the player base.

I actually do like clowns in SS13, but I don't think they'd fit here. Also some really good ideas there, I think you mean mortar marine? And I like the idea of a CL's assistant a lot.

Chaplain. The military has chaplains for the soldiers, a job slot should be open for one. It might not be used often, but if we're going for realism then add in a job slot for it.

Ammo-boy marine, I like the idea.

Tonguer xeno, no. Basically a Smoker from left 4 dead and any marine would simply just cut the tongue, not hard to do.

SKULL xeno, no. Personally I'm not in favor of a "Super" runner.

Mole xeno, maybe. It could be interesting.

Clowns, no.

Time traveler, maybe as an EVENT but not a regular thing, sounds kinda dumb if it's consistent.

CL Assistant, eh, neutral.

Traitor, maybe... But I would rather not have to deal with traitors breaching the Sulaco. It happens often enough as it is.

Tonguer Xeno, that's the point. Have a marine cut the entrapped victim like L4D. Marines seriously needs teamwork.

SKULL was a MGS joke.

Time traveler is a event character.

That's not what the traitor is going to do. That will never be traitors objective.

I noticed yesterday there was a pilot role, presumably played by a staff member. If that member would like to comment about the experience, that'd be cool.

armour that would be a hellova lot more resistant to getting shot in the back. a shield, explosives, and perhaps their own guns like a shotgun or smg.

Perhaps a flag bearer but futurized? For instance, carrying a device that can shout slogans to inspire marines, perhaps occasionally playing music? The device could be rp only or it could have some real benefit such as reducing stun times or increasing run speed? This would even possibly help curb the win/loss ratio back away from the aliens.

I was thinking like a boom box, but I can see how you interpret it as a clown. Well the clown is an integral part of the history of ss13, so why not? My immersion etc.
