Facehuggers under crates.
Well, just today it was the third time this week when i see runners putting facehuggers under crates and table parts and glass and whatnot so i decided to actually make a forum post about the legality of this action.
(picture for reference)
So, first off, this is really REALLY gamey since you'd never be able to put a facehugger under a crate and expect it to jump at a 1.86m human being's face, and it's quite unrealistic (that's for one).
Second off, it's bad roleplay. I've seen runners do it and roleplay "common-sense" says only drones and high castes know how to do smart stuff like setting up traps and doing smart shit in general, outside of the hive.
Third off, it's FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE TO SHOOT THEM. That's right, you CANNOT shoot them if they are under something like a crate because the game REQUIRES you to click on them to shoot at a closer range than behind them.
Now, this is more of a rant and the butthurt speaking out of me because this literally happened just now, but i also want to hear if this happened to other people and what their thoughts are on the matter.

Yeah..this is honestly shit. Had one round where there were LITERALLY enough huggers hidden under crates and objects at the entrance of the FOB to immediately hug 5 marines upon first landing, which might I add is extremely metagaming to even think of setting up traps for new human hosts, you don't know marines are coming at all.

So, you want marines to be able to hide mines, but aliens not be able to hide huggers?

Re: Facehuggers under crates.
Good comparison, but it doesn't really work. While covering mines actually makes sense both in an organic way and an artificial way (you have to apply pressure IRL to a mine to pop it too, right?) and a mine blocks only a small portion of the map (read: a tile), mines can be stepped on by crushers with no repercussions, if an alien steps on a mine and recovery pheromones are on, then you definetly won't die, if you step on a mine and you're on weeds, you won't die, so there are a lot of ways to countering mines and they are only strong for the thing they do: block off ONE tile.apophis775 wrote:So, you want marines to be able to hide mines, but aliens not be able to hide huggers?
Now, for aliens under crates: they block off everything in hugging range, you can't pass by them without them jumping on you as long as they are there, there are NO ways to counter them as far as i know (except for letting them hug a marine, drag said marine away, take off hugger, rinse & repeat until clear), you cannot shoot them from a range because, well, their sprite is covered by another, getting in melee range means getting in hugging range, the one thing you can do is to waste grenades or rockets on plain huggers under crates, which is really REALLY bad. Also, read the bad roleplay part of OP, that's how it works, at least as far as i know.
In a nutshell: aliens under crates are OP, while mines are good only for what they do, and even then, they are situational.

Hiding them at round start is metagaming, but once marines start hiding prox mines I think it's reasonable for aliens to hide huggers.

Mines have an IFF trigger, and must be stepped upon. Huggers jump at nearby spot.
Not the same, in lore or in practice.

No, I want them to not be able to hide huggers BEFORE the marines even land for the first time. It's highly meta, honestly, it makes no sense that they'd make hugger traps for a colony that is empty.apophis775 wrote:So, you want marines to be able to hide mines, but aliens not be able to hide huggers?

Re: Facehuggers under crates.
hiding huggers at least is more consistent with the lore than the way they normally get used by players.
Making it possible to shoot or otherwise remove hidden huggers is desperately needed though, because currently the only option available to a regular marine is to waste a grenade or sacrifice their (now less common) helmet. Making it easier to shoot facehuggers that get dropped by dead/critted xenos would also be great, it's often a shitty pixel hunt for a moving sprite.

So this is what cluwning feels like?

I... should probably apologise for this. I'm certain aliens have used it before I did, however, After I started using it in the storage area as a warrior Hunter, I began to see a ton of others use it as well.
That out of the way, the marines have a very easy counter to it. The specialist's incinerator, will roast the huggers under boxes.

Absolute majority of marines have no grenades or flamethrowers on first landing, so...

So right-click all the crates.
And, oh, you can shoot at crate to destroy it.
These threads "disallow aliens everything because it is too hard for me" start to get boring.

Re: Facehuggers under crates.
The issue here is twofold.
First is the meta-preparation for a marine assault aliens dont IC know it is coming (which likely wasnt the issue in that specific round, as aliens were by that time aware of bird-flying hosts).
Second issue is the gamey use of moving objects and hiding huggers. (Which is actually a grey zone- as aliens mostly move objects to get somewhere, not initially to hide huggers or to use objects as cover)

1. Once aliens see hostile hosts with metal-spitting sticks, they can and they must prepare to fight with them.Dyne wrote:The issue here is twofold.

2. Why do you think aliens should be stupid? Hiding hugger under/behind the crate is not to hard to imagine.
There is no issue.

Theres no reason to hide huggers pre marines coming since to xeno knowledge the colonists are dead.So they wouldnt need traps
