sudden community degredation.

Post by Siserith Vassada » 10 Dec 2015, 21:31

This may or may not be ranty, read at your own risk.

In the past few months the community has been growing in competence, rping skills, and in general getting more mature. but suddenly. in the past two or three weeks. more so this week though. i've noticed a sudden massive drop in the maturity and competence of the playerbase. moreso with the massive swarm of new players and large amount of multikeyers and young players there has also been an extreme lack of adminship recently as at least half the time theres no mins and the ones that are on are so overwhemed with the amount of complaints and problems that they simply cant deal with most of them.

there seems to of been an explosion of young players under fifteen who are extremely immature(this squeaker generation type)and have been creating lots of problems. this coinciding with the lack of adminship and sudden dissaperance of lots of regulars has made the game pretty toxic to play and have fun it. to the point where lots of us regulars dont really want to play anymore and are contemplating leaving the community for a time.

What Apop said, yeah. But some of the new players will stick around after Christmas vacation even still. The past few rounds have been bad as of late, but they will likely improve. Everyone who started out on CM started out as a bad player, these new players will either leave the server or eventually get better and become competent like the other regulars.

It just depends on if you really want to stick with the community during this time, or leave and find somewhere else more mature/tolerable for you to play.

And this is why I'm glad I'm finally getting a tabletop group together, so I can go get my RP fix somewhere else. Not that there's any RP to be had here anyway, like you said... but still.

The massive lack of any capable admins being online is also pretty noticeable.

Lots of colleges and schools are getting out. For example, out by me some schools stopped December 4th and most resume around Jan 4th. My college is doing it's final week of finals this week, and when I went to DePaul we ended November for Thanksgiving and started back up right after New Years.

There is some RP to be found here, with the right people and usually on Sulaco-side jobs. Marines also have a bit of RP-value as well if you look in the right places. It's a matter of perspective and who you're with.

Not all admins are terribad, the ones I know and see on are pretty good at what they do. I don't interact with them regarding admin-related things that often, though.

True. Perhaps they're busy or have finals like some of us? Applications might reopen soon if the admins/mods aren't active enough, or etc. It'll be handled, it always is.

I've had some good times with RP while playing as an MP. Which is why I pretty much only go as an MP now.

Hey, I can't fault you guys. I got finals next week too. It's just that it makes things even more glaring because we can't guarantee there's someone on hand for a response. So the worse players slip through the cracks a little easier.

That and we have real life crap come in or we just need a little break from the game like I took a night off this week to play a different game to just not to start getting tired of the server. I do agree however most of the people when I started I loved playing with them xeno or marine and it was nice even if I was playing marine when captured to tip my hat and we would both laugh and keep playing. Now it seems less so of that and it seems the people who know the game are ignored when you are trying to give orders because the newer guys just want to be super robust. It will change I'm sure in time, but going to have to deal with it.

Yeah, some people are taking a break or being busy with finals. And there have been new people who greytide but have become pretty good players. If you're burning out on CM it's better to take a break than to keep playing and start resenting it imo.

RP is hit or miss sometimes on CM, I've had amazing times once when your squad cooperates. MP is probably my favorite job RP-wise. I also like playing MP to help weed all the chaff out of the server and am tempted to log on now.

Also greytiding and the lot is common whenever SS13 gets any sort of recognition from a popular source, usually not from the "squealer types" you've described but if a major YouTuber has featured SS13, god help us all. De-listing the server will right away stop most of the greytide.

Yeah there are a lot of new people in the community as of late but hey remember when we all first started playing this we(or at least I) had no clue what in the world we were doing it takes time to learn how to play and even more time to be competent
