there seems to be some xeno salt today about marines attacking the hive and winning for once, so i'me going to try to explain it all for all of you, the problem is xenos have been getting really angry about marines attacking their hive today and getting admin support from a couple of admins who have been banning multiple players from jobs and the game and support the xeno side for this, i'me going to attempt to explain it from my side however i dont know all the things that have gone on for these four rounds.
First round,i have no fucking idea, no one will speak to me about it
Second round, from what i can gather of people freaking over deadchat in the first round the marines were ordered to assault the hive by command after hearing multiple marines screaming for help from the caves(suit sensors are a thing people)this however was early in the round about five to ten minutes after the marines landing and having a large number kidnapped and infected, from what i can gather the survivors were not rescued. an admins then gave a xeno ert which fucked up the sulaco and ended the round 1h20m in.
the third round, i was a part of this and a marine, we were sweeping the colony and had a few marines kidnapped by this point calling for help, as we were sweeping the colony and at medbay a boiler began firing acid at us which led to us 30+ marines who had on their patrols converged on medbay and begun fortifying it to begin a charge at the bugger that killed four marines with acid, it was then heavilly defended by 5+ xenos who all retreated into the hive with us following it and destroying the hive
the fourth round, was a clusterfuck and i cannot as of now attest to what happend groundside as i never reached it and as of yet heard anything about it other than the marines attacked the hive and xenos and admins were angry that the hive was assaulted before the hour mark.
what i want to know is what everyone else thinks of marines attacking the hive in a proper(in my opinion) and what could be beneficial to both sides before making a suggeston to change things or to clarify the rule as it is.
the way i see it you cant expect marines to not come to their friends rescue or to not chase the aliens attacking them it would just be (bullshit) to not attack, and while i have seen hive rushing as an occasional legitimate problem that cant really be handled due to the nature of large amounts of players (possibly breaking the rules) theres got to be somthing that can be done to clear up this issue
Edit: also due to the change making the nexus far less feasable to defend marines are far more willing to attack leading to much xeno salt and death without admin itervention

Its kind of sort of expect not to attack the hive right away because xeno are shit in the current state and need time to evolve and build to get less shit.
Everyone knows marines will win every time if they rush, thats why its frowned upon. Xenos will never be buffed so its the only work around there is.

Zergling rush, while it is a tactic that can easily make marines win, is not fun. It's not fun for either side and it's not fun to have admins deal with it.

I feel the need to add my input on this, as I was there for the second and third of the rounds.
What siserith says is mostly correct, though he left some minor facts out.
The "Second Round" assault on the hive, was mounted because of a squad lead being kidknapped and dragged away. Only him at the time, when the orders were given to get him back.
In the "Third Round", Squads alpha, bravo, and charlie were patroling the colony, and cleared all buildings free of hostiles, with one or two contacts sighted at the original LZ. It was as alpha and charlie crossed paths at robotics, that Bravo was reported being down, and disapearing. From there, all squads had met up in medical and hydro, waiting for further orders, when the attack from across the river via boiler came.
The marines retailiated, and persued the fleeing xenos as Siserith described.
As Siserith said, there is now much fewer "defencible locations" as the Nexus was nerfed defencewise. It leads marines to be more aggressive already, as defences just won't be as effective.
An FOB has /never/ been a requirement, and really the need for one was only impressed upon as the round went on.
My ONLY problem, with the attack on the hives, is that all marines were sent to attack from the begining. Command should have sent one squad at first, and then reinforced with the others if needed.
All of the above said, If you don't expect marines to be attacking early, what ELSE should they be doing? The xenos did little to no harrassment in the two rounds that I was in, so the marines had no real reason to be defensive or build an FOB at all. Not to mention, in the "Third Round" the xenos made the front of there hive almost right next to the river, along it's side to the tablefort. Putting it so exposed, is /asking/ for it to be attacked/investigated when so close to marine patrols.
Furthermore, I firmly believe in the "Second and Third Rounds" The xenos could have held off the marines with some difficulty, if they had actual coordination. As it was, it was a xeno attacking the large marine group one or two at a time at most. During the "Second Round", the queen had left the hive during it's attack, and was off elsewhere ignoring the attack. Further more, in the case of the "Third Round", the queen charged forward into gunfire, screeched, and no xenos came to attack. The queen was gunned down trying to back up as the marines recovered from it.
