The smartgun

Post by AWPen » 10 Feb 2016, 14:22

So lately, I've become a fan of the smartgun. However I feel as though there is a problem with it, compared to other specialist weapons it doesn't add up.

So it fires quite fast and holds a good amount of ammo on the back, however , having seen all the Alien films multiple times, I think it should fire faster and maybe do a little more damage. Not only does this make it stand up to the other weapons and have a use, it makes it more lore realistic.

What is your thoughts on the smart gun?

Put it on burst fire and unleash lead.

It slightly has more damage than the Pulse rifle I think but I'm not sure on it.

It is actually between the pulse rifle and SMG per shot.

I personally advocate for several possible changes:

a)doing more damage and have the same ammo it does now

b)be given the canon choice between HE and AP rounds, ammo reduced, damage increased against relevant targets with relevant ammo

c) same/reduced damage and rounds increased to the canon 500.

d)Removing the recoil penalties for full auto.

Yeah, no recoil is a must. Considering it's strapped to a mini exosuit, it shouldn't recoil right?

it should have no recoil even on full auto, tbh.

Though as it is, it still demolishes aliens if used well.

Like in the movies, they fire at like 500rpm with no recoil.

500 Bullets, Buff damage above M41A, and completely remove the penalties of burst fire.

The smartgun is literally shit without any of these, it's not about choosing, it actually needs every one of these to compete with the SADAR.

The downside: Removing the spare ammo pack.

the smartgun is good in good hands, just like the SADAR.
only changes that are needed are the ammo increase and spare pack removal, cause anything else will make the xenos cry.

Yeah but I feel movie accuracy should be important. A slight damage buff is needed imo

doesn't mean we should make 'em cry more by changing something that's fine as is.

Smartgun is already OP as are most of the marine weapons currently, it doesn't need a buff at all.

I'd much rather see some alien buffs heading out to give them some advantages instead of being bullet sponges.

In regards of the smartgun it's highly effective especially when storming a hive with burst fire on, if you have two smartguns or more storming a hive with marines in front it becomes rather difficult to even take them out unless you have queen or crusher get a well timed stun down.
