Mo Sprites, Mo problems! (Pesticide Update)
Part Two: Electric Boogaloo, or how I came to stop worrying and love the Rasputin Flight Crew.
My old sprite thread was locked in the denied application forum, which is understandable since it wasn't really an application. It was just a thread where I wanted to put some of the stuff I had been toying around with making in case the dev's wanted them.
And guess what! Some of my crap is now in the code! I'm so proud I could poop.
Anyways, I made more stuff, this based on a suggestion from a while ago based on having a dedicated crew on board the Rasputin. The idea being that a pilot would be able to navigate to the planet faster then an autopilot, oversee transport and generally keep the shuttle clean and in one piece (until devoured by Xenos). Dedicated crew could be as little as one co-pilot or door gunner who would act as something of a cigarette girl for the marines, and an MP within the confines of the shuttle. He could also act as a go-between for supply and the boots on the ground, loading and delivering supplies and casevac.
Anyway, check the thread for more info, here's some sprites:
Pictured:
Flight Crew Uniform
Flight Crew Gloves
Flight Crew Boots
Pilot's Helmet, Visor up
Pilot's Helmet, Visor Down
Flight Crew Lifewest/Armor
Pilot's Mask
Gunner's Targeting Visor
Gunner's Helmet
Pilot, Getting Dressed;
Gunner/Crew, With Targeting Visor and Helm;

Loving those gunners! Reminds me of Star Wars, but what is the purpose?
In Star Wars it is because the ships dont have life support.

Re: Mo Sprites, Mo problems!
Oh jeez.
The xeno scum have boarded us. There are weeds all over the hall, the cloner's are all backed up, the commander is nowhere to be found...
What's a marine to do?
Well, launch that distress beacon youse got and try and get a hold of... Dale's Dead Bug Pest Control! Much like the fabled pizza delivery, Dale's Pesticide should be a fairly unlikely response when the Sulaco launches it's distress beacon. The exterminator will show up in his handy van with some interesting, but limited gear.
Let's look at his gear!
The Bug Bomb filled with Dale's own patented Bug-B-Gone serum. Guaranteed to wipe out nests, hives, biological resin and weeds. Might cause minor burnings to humans, so deploy with caution! Pictured; Inactive bomb on the left, armed on the right.
In extreme cases of infestation, Dale's Dead Bug vans do come equipped with Bug-B-Gone dispensers for refilling the Portable Pesticide tanks. Note that only official D.D.B equipment will interface with these tanks, Dale's is not liable for any damages or loss of life resulting in unauthorised tampering with a dispenser, such as (but not limited to) trying to syphon Bug-B-Gone with a beaker or spray bottle.

Much like the fabled pizza delivery, Dale's Pesticide should be a fairly unlikely response when the Sulaco launches it's distress beacon. The exterminator will show up in his handy van with some interesting, but limited gear.
Let's look at his gear!
- Firstly, he has a simple jumpsuit. Fairly durable, but still, just a jumpsuit. He spawns with no armour, making him an easy target. He also spawns with some blue gloves and simple black shoes.
- The exterminator's utility belt functions much like the janitor's belt, in that it can only carry certain job related items. Mostly just mouse/bear traps, bug-bombs, and the like.
- The exterminator's fabled gasmask is fairly resistant to any would be pest that seeks to mate with his head.
- The soft cap is just there for show.
- The Portable Pesticide Tank allows the exterminator to spray Dale's Panted Universal Bug-B-Gone serum. This powerful concoction is guaranteed to eliminate most smaller vermin, such as roaches, larvae and flies, and has an added effect of eliminating some of those weeds and resins that such critters like to nest in. Larger critters will likely not be very hurt by this, however.
- The pesticide sprayer is attached to the Tank, and has an adjustable nozzle strength that allows the exterminator to optimize his usage of the Bug-B-Gone. The sprayer is quite cumbersome however and needs to be held in both hands for proper usage.

Dale's patented tac-light. Pictured; Off on the left, on to the right. This little beauty has a surprisingly rare property. It clips to your uniform! Using an ultra rare bananium plastic molding techniques these light sources can be attached to just about any kind of jumpsuit. Now before you absolutely loose your mind, do note that only certified D.D.B employee's are issued these puppies.

You sir deserve a medal. I would hype so much if I got this as RT simply due to the hilarious RP from it. It would also actually be extremely more useful than pizza RT. Also love the King of the Hill reference.Morrinn wrote:Oh jeez.

Re: Mo Sprites, Mo problems! (Pesticide Update)
Hi Morrin,
I love the amount of polish you put into your work. It looks great.
Unfortunately, I don't think we can really use the Dale's Dead Bug ERT. While it is superbly well done, it is noticeably goofier than our current ERTs. The Pizza Delivery ERT is our sole "joke response team", and is meant to simply nullify the advantage gained from the ERT (in other words, it is intentionally useless). We had another one a while ago, called the "Emergency Response Chimps", that got removed due to being too silly and unfitting. I'm worried the same thing would happen here.
The pilot concept looks great. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite match the pilot uniforms from the film. We do have our own uniform for the pilot role collecting dust. It's something we've discussed a few times. Perhaps it will appear if we can find an interesting way to implement the role. It's something we're still in talks about.

But man ... those sprites are very good, so good that it would be a sin not to use them, what if you guys add the pest backpack to botany in the colony with the tank? it would be reasonable that botanist in the colony had this kind of equipment.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:Hi Morrin,

Re: Mo Sprites, Mo problems! (Pesticide Update)
Adding usable civilian gear (which has no relevant use) to the colony (in my eyes) has largely been a mistake. It doesn't really add a whole lot to the atmosphere and usually just draws attention away from things of importance. More often than not, it ends up in the hands of marines which is no bueno.username123 wrote:

I still have nightmares about the medic in a clown mask, hardsuit and armed with a foam crossbow.
The gear is nice, but unfortunately isn't relevant to our theme as a server. I apologize

Re: Mo Sprites, Mo problems! (Pesticide Update)
Morrin could be one of the best spriters I've seen (Excluding our gods abby and stamos). And the doorgunner, would be an amazing idea if we had a real dedicated pilot role. Something like the old stationary MG's that we had in pre-alpha, to where they are locked in position, but with smart targetting.

What do you mean by "having no relevant use"? if we add what morrinn said, we could use the weed pest to destroy aliens weeds, just like a flamethrower (deals no damage or almost no damage).SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote: Adding usable civilian gear (which has no relevant use) to the colony (in my eyes) has largely been a mistake. Re: Mo Sprites, Mo problems! (Pesticide Update)
That's the job of the marine flamethrower, not a civilian pesticide sprayer. It would be in poor form for the marines to adopt such gear, especially in a combat zone. It just seems bizarre for a marine to be carrying a civilian gardening tool into combat, and doesn't match up with the universe.
Xenomore weeds are not plants either. They're a fairly hard bony organic substance. The sprites will eventually reflect that.
