yeah, that "experiment" didn't go very well.

At least I had the courage to even dare to attempt such an insane field test. Little did I realize the full extent marines would go to get their rifles back (we even had a suicide bomber at some point)...

At least I had a pretty interesting execution, though.
wait, you took the pulse rifles or the attachments?

if the former, I want to try this out. if the latter...oh boy. You are crazy.

It was the rifles. Even Rain kinda went 'Wait, what. Oh no.' She did point out that marines and rifles have a long, deep relationship. It's like chocolate and peanut butter.

To be honest, if marines REALLY had to choose between Pulse Rifles or attachments, I think it is pretty clear that they would gladly forgo attachments in favor of keeping their fave gun.

It was amazing how bad the backlash was, from people threatening mutiny (even my own SOs) to my NCOs threatening to go into cyro, the marines stirring up a shitstorm in general over the loss of a single gun, and even the aforementioned suicide bombing in the brig. All this eventually cultivated into High Command getting involved, putting me on the spot, forcing me to admit that everything was merely a hoax to convince marines to try new weapons, and then getting arrested and executed via lethal injection. The fact that people treated my corpse with such respect afterwards baffles me even now, considering the stunt I pulled.

One has to wonder what would have happened if I was completely honest with the marines from the beginning? The reason I made up the whole "rifles are faulty, don't use em" thing was to create a Roleplay reason as to why they are being banned for the mission, hoping marines would be a bit more understanding (they weren't). If I simply went "No rifles this mission" instead of spinning up a hoax to get marines to believe me, one can only imagine what horrors would take place.

I was a young sentinel, we had crashed into the almayer and captured marines, this one marine escaped and was being a motherfucker to capture again, so i bit his left foot and his head flew off.

Basically the marine equivalent of disabling slashing when the tallhosts arrive on the big bird.

While that round was definitely worth it and had decent RP all around... aside from my personally watching two people kill themselves and one buckblast an MP in the hangar alone while waiting for drop... you really can't take away the heavy lifter of the marine firearms, and especially replace it with the underused runt. Not at least without focusing on different tactics to supplement the change in firefight, because what I saw down at the river was the same ol' river barrens fight except the T3s were very aggressive due to lack of a mid-long range damage output.

Bill Carson actually did try a similar round to what Reno did, but in his case he told everyone that it was heavily recommended they take a slug shotgun, and that while he wouldn't force anyone to get one, he did heavily encourage it. Not sure how that round ended up but there was certainly a lot less drama in it, though some of that can be attributable to the meme effect.

That reminds me of the time I was a UPP synth with a Mataba. Shot a marine 3 times in the chest, and yet... His arm AND leg suddenly popped off.

Damage systems in this game can be weird sometimes...

Indeed, Bill Carson was an inspiration for my experiment, since I heard that he managed to convince marines to focus heavily on shotguns. I wasn't a part of it, though, so I had no idea how it fully played out. But hey, if Carson could pull that shit off, I figured I could, right?

And then I was executed. Still, at least we learned some things along the way. Probably won't be the last time I do something to anger marines, though... But as they say, the CO isn't there to win, he is there to lead, and how he leads is up to him.

As the CIC staff was off frolicking, us Marines were getting Swiss-cheesed on the planet, so nice one guys. Funeral mid-op. Great. I totally didn't need OW support.

Now that I think about it, was that the FIRST one we ever had, let alone for a commander?

In all my time playing, I don't think I ever seen such a funeral parade like that. It was quite impressive, and chances are no one recorded it, meaning it only exists in the memories of those that witnessed it.

First off. It's not just that, it's that they had no other option.

The SMG is shit at range, and is commonly only used by engineers and medics because it's basically an automatic handgun, and they're unlikely to be near action in the first place, so it's a shit weapon for non combat personnel that no one in their right mind would take to the frontlines.
The Shotgun is strictly a close-ranged weapon with buckshot, and the rate of fire with slugs and other attachments make it shit for range, and a slow and unreliable weapon to use in the open fields of the jungle planet, which means that if they attempted to push using shotguns, they'd quickly get fucked, because very slow rate of fire + time it takes to pump the shotgun + low damage from slugs/how close you have to get for buckshot to be effective = shitty weapon.
The only other option would be the M41A. It has 32 bullets in every mag with burstfire and a large selection of attatchments, plus an underslung grenade launcher pre-attached, its fast rate of fire and high ammo count combined with high damage and optional grenade launcher and burstfire makes it a great weapon for Marines, there's a reason that it's the primary weapon for a lot of Marines.

Second. It's not that you tried to take away the weapons, it's that you tried to do it for a dumb and unnecessary reason and then lied through your teeth for the reason. Something new does not always mean something good, eating dirt instead of a meal is different but it is not good just like saying that a gun that fires caseless ammunition will somehow jam mid-firing even when two marines took to the firing range and emptied out entire mags to prove you wrong.

One moment that always sticks out to me is when we were on LV during a predator round. My squad mate tells me something along the lines of "Yo, there's some cloaked thing stalking me. Shot a fuckin laser at me." and I respond with "Bullshit." As I continue typing I literally get plasma blasted not even a second later.

I think my favorite pred introduction was the time on Big Red where I was throwing flares and then a cloaked pred tossed them back at me as another marine came in to time to see it. I was so surprised it took me a second even out of character to realize what had happened.

Playing a round as SL, missed the initial drop cause I WAS NOT ready at all. After hurrying to make it to the drop ship for the initial drop, I went back after being told there was a grenade launcher thinking SL can use spec weapons (which would make sense). So I sat waiting for the next drop with a grenade launcher until about 5 marines laughed at me for holding it thinking I could use it until I finally ahelped it finding out the truth, so I had to RUN back to prep right as the Alamo landed and rushed like crazy and almost didnt make it (if I remember correctly, I literally made it on as it was taking off).

Marines on DS don't (know how to) open shutter, for over a min (Queen came in to screech TWO times), leading few more bodies dead on ground and some critted, before it was finally opened

Command was real bad this round,
XO order all marine push from Tfort to east cave, though there was only 6 of us, we push via the SW exit of sand temple, soon got surrounded killed and captured.
15 min later, Alpha SO order alpha to push from south to sand temple, 8 men SL, Spec, SG. Initial pushed went good, cutting off T3 outside cave, fighting T1 in cave, then Spec naded himself, rambo SL got picked off, SG got Ravager charged, etc. Again surrounded, weaken and died.
Nexus, LZ1 got over run, send LZ2 with 6 marines to Nexus, all died ofc.

I still remember it like it was almost yesterday... Apop himself was present and poked a lot of fun at that mistake, even breaking out the bagpipes. I honestly cried a little in shame and almost gave up COing, thinking no one would like me in a position of leadership anymore.

And here I am, people nowadays comparing me to Carson due to all the insane antics I gotten involved in.

Last night I was PO (John 'Tex' Schmidt), and after several drops on the Alamo (after I barely got aboard it when the CO remote launched while I was helping load Normandy), I somehow ended up the only PO active with SLs screaming for CAS. I told command to operate the Alamo until another PO was awake and jumped aboard the Normandy thinking that the previous PO would have set it to fire missions upon landing and immediately launching. Then I see that it's on transport. Shit. I land and all of a sudden I see orange Gore all over my dropship.

Some grorious CO holds a medal ceremony but little does he know the xenos are already prepped to go up.
Roughly five minutes later, aliums launch and the not-so-glorious crew rush to their stations where the grorious CO has oh so graciously assigned.

And then this happens in the very same place, the Garden, where the CO has held the majority of his defenses.

Image
The dropship lands ontop of just about everyone there. And apparently the CO was playing 4D chess and out-manoeuvered the aliums for the final time.
The CM experience.
