Staff Appreciation
Hi everyone,
So I decided to make this staff appreciation thread to let the Colonial Marines staff know that I appreciate the work that they do. I understand the staff are not payed for the effort they put into making CM the best server it can be, so I wanted this to be my way of saying thanks.
The Xeno update is awesome!
Thank you,
Jessi

Re: Staff Appreciation
Regardless of what people say, the update is awesome and I like it being more realistic-looking.
People don't like change and that will probably die off within the next three days.

That Derpislav guy could use more work on his taste in comics though.

I like to also thank apop and the dev team for bringing this awesome update together with the new sprites, its sick af mate
I also like to thank the multitude of mods, mentors and admins for putting in the hard work and dealing with the terror of the greytide. I've yet to have a negative experience from any of the staff team
And lets be honest colonial marines is the #1 server for a reason in my timezone anyway

Re: Staff Appreciation
In spite of whatever else, I'd like to show appreciation for the staff as a collective whole.
I've not always agreed with all of his decisions - which is perfectly okay. And this isn't lipservice about the updates or that sort of thing.
What dawned on me is that Apophis is old enough to be the Dad for a majority of CM's community members at present, and most of the community members are young enough to be his kids. Putting that into perspective: If I caught my own kids using the language that some forum members here use to mouth off to Apophis and the admin team - or, more to the point - if I mouthed off to my own Dad like some of the forum members mouth off to Apophis, I wouldn't even know where to begin in describing the consequences.
So I would like to express my newfound respect for Apophis. For putting up with the excessively vitriolic deluge that gets levelled at him and his team on a regular basis. No, I don't think Apophis is some sort of God; in fact, I think that most of the community could stand to benefit from the realization that Apophis & co. are only human: yes, it is my subjective, individual opinion that they make mistakes upon occasion, who doesn't? What would be nice is to be able to raise those discussions without associating them with puerile insinuations about personal habits, or making grotesque and insulting analogies about powers of perception or social dynamics.
While I'd love to close by saying "We're all adults here," I'm pretty sure that isn't actually the case. In lieu of that, I'd like to offer that we should be doing our best to act like adults here, and understand that there's a distinct line between "offering feedback in the form of a well-articulated discussion" and "crying like a snotty brat over a free 2D video game paid for out of someone else's pocket."
As individuals attempting to maintain sanity and cohesion while submerged in a profoundly destructive and volatile social environment, Apophis and the CM staff - both past and present - have my respect.
