Lorenzo's Library of Learning
I want to learn.
I want to be a better member of this community, and a better (less salty) player.
I want to help people stick with CM Through the learning curve and the admittedly harsh judgement of other players.
So i've created this thread as a half guide, half community exercise. Basically, any knowledge of CM from lore to tips and tricks to general advice will be cataloged here.
I'd like as many people to contribute as possible so we can all help each other learn and grow stronger as a community.
I'll go first: Did you know that devouring a live marine as a xeno with a knife or machete in their belt/suit/back slot will damage you every tile that you move?
EDIT: I'd also like staff members to contribute to this thread as much as possible! Your vast knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: The idea is to have everyone chip in a grain of information, if you know something else that hasn't been posted yet then go for it.

NEVER use burst fire, unless you happen to be completely alone against multiple xenos.

I disagree, burst fire is really powerful so long as its used correctly.

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Knowledge
You should've taken the opportunity to name this "Lorenzo's Library of Learning".
At this point, FOB is an actual buzzword.
"The bullet penetrated your groin and your ovaries have been ripped. You are infertile, Miss Williams."
"You know females can't be Eunuchs right?"

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Knowledge
Use single fire when you are suppressing xenos, when they are in medium to close range use burst fire, don't spam it though. Spammed burst fire can fuck up your aim, right when you need it the most. I've seen people down xenos but miss all their shots trying to finish it off, real embarrassing, but not a huge problem.

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Knowledge
Hmm...
1. Sulaco staff can go to the FOB as long as there is 1 other similar role on the ship and the FOB isnt in immediate danger. This is stated in the wiki but i feel more people should know it. So cargo can send 1 person, engineering can send 1( or more if its really slow), medical can send 1( or more if really slow), the researcher can head down, the corporate liason can head down, MP's can head down ( but must stay in the dropship/pod), Bo's can send 1, And the XO or CO can go down as long as the other is on the ship.
That makes a 7 party funtime at the FOB, so stop whining that the ship is boring, go and do something. (note, do not head down to the FOB unless everything in the Sulaco is tooken care of in your department, dont be that guy)
2. crew and weapons:
-Medical staff (researcher as well) all count as civilians, they can only be equipped permanently with a pistol. They can pick up rifles and shotguns on the ground if their life is in grave danger and their is no escape but they must drop it at soon as they are out of danger.
-Security can pick up lethal weapons to fight Non-Sulaco crew. Otherwise, its the ol' harmbaton routine
-The CL can always carry a sidearm...everywhere (bar when he's arrested).
-The engineering staff are enlisted troops, and can carry weapons and armor if the situation is dangerous.
- Cargo are enlisted troops, they too can carry weapons and armor if the situation is dangerous.
3. On the ship and you need to test out some narly super deadly/ dangerous/ chaotic thing in a safe area? Use the ERT room thats located on the south side of the hanger (and in the rest of the ship). There is nothing located in them and the doors are unlocked. This makes it so you dont mess up the ship while doing your possibly-ship-destroying activity. makes a great ghetto-cell to store people/things in too.
4. Be creative! there is so much that a person can do to really help out things and if you put your mind to it, you can figure out cool stuff.

you can add notes to yourself in game by looking for the add note button in the top right verb HUD, you can find these notes under "notes"

You can escape resin handcuffs while nested if you target your mouth with harm intent and click repeatedly, it will cause you to bite off your hand and allow you to escape.

Rana's tidbits of helpul shit to keep boots alive in an op:
1. In the absence of command, sticking together in groups will be your most likely way to survive. Even with command, work as a team, play to each others strengths, cover medics/engineers as they work, and most importantly LISTEN to each other, when command doesn't have your back, have each others backs, cohesiveness brings joy.
2. In general, as stated above, use burst-fire sparingly, unless you're alone, or have a lot of accuracy mods it's gonna fly everywhere. In fact, just watch where you aim, thinking out a shot, rather than spraying and praying can save a lot of pain for you and your allies, I know it's hard sometimes, especially when lag/bullet travel can come into play.
3. AP rounds, again, be smart about it, don't use them against soft, squishy targets, including those precious sacks of meat you call allies
4. Don't be afraid to try new weapons and new attachment combos, try your own thing, feel free to ask what works, and if someone tells you not to do something try it out anyway, get a feel for things, you'll figure out what you like eventually.
5. Be aware, seems like a simple enough one, but be aware of your surrounding, and yourself and allies positions, many a charge has failed from getting too stretched out, or going too quickly, working up slowly and covering your ass are a good way to ensure success, lessen friendly fire, and help prevent ambushes. It includes, but isn't limited to
7.If you don't know what a role/job entails, it's probably not the job for you, familiarize yourself with playing the "low end" roles, like standard, maintenance tech, and cargo tech before moving on to the shiny bells and whistles of the fancy sounding officer and specialized roles
If I think of anything else to add, check in later and It'll be here.

- Knowing where you are in relation to your allies (moving as a group can ensure safety, but if people aren't watching where they're firing, it can quickly turn into a marine made massacre) INTENT: I forgot add this, and it's very important, intent can make or break you. help let's you pass through one another, nice in hall-ways and safe places, but on the ground, try using Grab (secondary bonus: grab lets you move wounded allies without hurting them, but it's slower than a drag) as you push people forward, so you don't get clusterfucks, at worst, you'll push someone into someone else's way, so you still need to be wary, but it will prevent stumbling over each other like a bunch of guppies out of water.
What weapons/gear your allies have (Keep out of the LOS of someone manning a wall in the FOB, watch LOS on SADARs, keep the Smartgunner in the middle of your troops, keep shotguns up front, ect.) EDIT:If you get hit by FF that happens to light you on fire, RESIST will help you put it out.
Paying attention to force numbers and state, if you have a number of wounded marines, your push isn't working, don't be afraid to fall back to treat the wounded and regroup, wounded pride will recover, a dead marine won't

if you can't aim
don't take AP
no, seriously, just don't
if you have hit a marine with FF anywhere in the last ten marine rounds you have played, do NOT take ap

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Learning
To state AP rounds further; Using a single rifle round can cause about a third of a marines health, they will be hurt but they will live. Using a single AP round and you will send that marine almost into crit, bleeding, and likely with broken bone scince it treats the armor like it wasnt even there.
Low teir aliens carry low armor, humans carry moderate armor, high tier aliens carry heavy armor.
The only thing armor piercing does is go through armor, it does not add damage.
Hypothetical CM bullet system ( i do not know values of any of these objects but hopefull this will make it easier for a player to wrap their minds around a bullet system)

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Learning
What is the point of AP ammo aside from being something that all but disappears three minutes after shift start?
It deals slightly more damage per bullet and apparently has a slightly better chance to penetrate xeno armour, but at the cost of it absolutely fucking over any Marine hit by it with a 99.9% guarantee of causing a fracture or even organ damage.
I kinda wish we just removed AP rounds.

Yah, im just putting an example so people can get some clue on how bullet systems might work (never know who your working with). i personally wish a dev would shed us a little more light on how armor peircing and armor are generally calculated for CM so we can have a better understanding. We could check it with monkey testing but ehhh, could come to false conclusions.

It really does kill/ maim alot of marines. If that one lesson can be hammered into the new players, i think the thread would be worth it.

Re: Lorenzo's Library of Learning
Okay, here: some advice about what you do in Medical after you get a fracture or internal injury.
Make sure you are actually injured (No joke, I've had uninjured marines inside. I nearly made them injured.)
Don't piss off doctors. They will use aesthetic.
Stand out of the way of where doctors are moving, wait until you're attended to. We can see your health on our HUDs, so if you're critically injured, you'll be handled first.
Yelling at doctors does not work in your favour.
Threatening busy doctors is a bad idea.
Interrupting doctors is a very bad idea.
