My idea is that only your squad would be indicated as they're the people you're most likely to know. The rest of them would just be grunts to you.

What about making squad backpacks solid colors? Highly visible, and less likely to be ripped off. Also, not a hard re-spriting job.

Vendor backpacks could be like vendor helmets- default.

Not everyone wears a backpack, for instance as a standard there isn't much need for one.

Oh on the contrary!

The average standard should have a belt of ammo, his main and secondary, at least 5 flares, a tricord injector and bandages, and his lunch for the day.

You are gonna need a backpack to carry what your armor and pockets can't, so backpacks are still useful even to the class who doesn't have access to fancy toys or tools.

I'm for colored backpacks, since that wouldn't look too bad.. Right?

Back when I was a spriter for Smokebudz's server, I fiddled around with the idea of custom uniforms for marines. I also ran into the issue of distinction between squads, I tend to agree with Edgelord on this matter. Armbands would be preferable to striped helmets, I even have an old template I was working on.

Those sprites are very different from the actual armour sprites. For one thing, the arms on our armour are very.. poorly defined. There's only a few visible pixels where colour can be added. I actually did a mockup of an armband/shoulderpad change and quickly realized it made the readability problem worse, not better.

I think the only solution is to change the sprite to beef up the arms/shoulder areas and change the colouring on the gloves to be less a hodgepodge of shading to solidify the colours and make the gloves more readable, then we can pull pixels from elsewhere and put them there.

Also for the love of God please get rid of the awful purple Charlie squad colour already and just make them a solid green colour. There is literally no reason not to do this, it makes so much more sense than having two squads sharing a similar pallet.

Edit: If someone sends me the blank armour sprites I can work on them more easily, I have literal years of experience doing it and can consult with some genuine professionals in the field, guys who do pixel art for a living. I can agree to some kind of written agreement or whatever to promise they won't be released publicly if need be.

I've mentioned this in dev discussions, but we can also make it so only the people in the squad can see a squad marker above people's heads. While I don't have specifics right now, it's another option.

Saltiness is evolving! Not distinguishing your Squad has appeared!

If we are doing this just remove the Squads all together and have them all put in one BIG ASS SQUAD which will increase the saltiness of the aliens due to marines turtling in the FOB with tons of marines in one squad which doesn't allow multitasking and hunting the lone ones.

Keep in mind, that post is out of date now, due to how they updated flares to come in pouches that fit in your pocket, which I love.

Makes engineers and medics lives so much easier when you don't have to worry about having enough flares as much.

Maybe you can do something like how nukeops work on other servers, where the nukie team and only the nukie team sees a sechud icon for fellow members.

I don't know why anyone would want to have a hud constantly floating over every marine's head 24/7. Do people have that much trouble seeing squad markings that they have to have a big round colored dot over all the marines just to tell who is who and what they do?

There are so many ways to identify a marine WITHOUT a hud, both ranking and squad. Having squad markers hovering over every marine would not only be immersion breaking, but also annoying and distracting in my opinion.

I been an MP, I seen the job markers, and holy shit are they bad.. TO have to endure that for hours on end regardless of job would be awful...

I just want a more IC, not hud-based way to identify people, it can't be that difficult..

I really don't get why just not to give marines internal HUD implant and make it only show icons for your squad. Like, I REALLY DON'T GET WHY YOU DENIYING SIMPLIEST AND EASIEST OPTION, THAT WILL WORK.

What's wrong with just removing the colors on the armor altogether? if you want to know what squad a marine belongs to you can either ask said marine or just examine him.

I don't really mind the squad colors that much, but I do feel like a power ranger when I'm playing as a marine sometimes.

Actually, removing squad colors on armor and adding squad icons, that only seen within squad is pretty neat idea.

Marines stop look like power rangers, and look like real marines in the same uniform and camo, and at the same time you can identify your teammates in seconds. Win/Win.

It doesn't have to be a huge Icon either, just a small dot, not as big as the sechud icons, just enough to see and identify who it is. Granted, it would be a bit of coding, but the precedence is there from nukeops antag-hud with no implant.

Wait a second. What if make an icon, based on implants icons?? They are exactly small dots. Each squad will have it's own color. They are pretty small,so they won't take much place, and you still can recognise your squad easily.

This, and removing squad colors from armor would be nice.

Implants would work, but only if/when cloning gets the kibosh.

You didn't get it, I don't mean implants. I mean icons for squads. They can be made using implants sprites. Because they are small, but still distinguish.
