I like this. A few things I'd add:
Synthetics do not process chemicals in any way, positive or negative.
All synthetics, hostile or non-hostile, have an additional organ in their head, a "combat inhibitor". All Sulaco synthetics would start with it active, while antagonistic synthetics could start with it inactive. What the "combat inhibitor" does is add such a massive accuracy penalty that any bullets fired will always miss living targets, regardless of distance or weapon mods. An inhibited synthetic can shoot out a window, but will never hit a person or xeno. The inhibitor status can be changed via surgery, but turning it off does not mean that it'll act as a warbot (unless justified by it's judgment of the situation), just that he now can (Possibly toggleable remotely by certain admin items that could be given to the CL?).
Synthetics have a flag that makes them both immune to alien slashes (Returns the "It is dead, why do you want to touch it" message), and invisible (to prevent meta-spitter acid/ xenos trapping it in a corner) until they either attack a xeno with a melee weapon, attack a resin construction, or fire a firearm in any way. Once any of those have happened, the synth loses its immunity and invisibility.

Piff, I'd rather Working Joes. Synthetics sound so dreadfully dull, being all near-human and stuff.

I honestly think people might be going about this the wrong way.
I'd actually rather a synthetic start on the colony, than anything else. I can imagine a blood-stained synthetic/working joe (Not intentional, mind you), waving to the marines as they land, saying
"Hello. Welcome to a fine establishment, known as a Weyland Yutani colony. Oh. I've noticed that you're carrying weapons..."
"Well...We can't have that, can we?"
Maybe it'd be cool to have that as an event or some shit. I dunno, I guess I like the idea of 1 synthetic on the planet or something.

For Working Joes, I'd give them no ability to use weapons, and limited to walk speed at all times, but the ability to take ABSURD amounts of damage, on the order of a whole squad trying to murderize it on full auto for 5-6 seconds before it drops, and very high unarmed damage (15-20/hit). Additionally, I'd make being on fire deal no damage (Flamer blasts still hurt, but you can't just hit it once and then kite it to death as it walks slowly towards you. Balance, not "realism" there).
