Sorry, been busy with work the last few months so I wasn't around to do much follow up on these (semi-recent) posts. I'll throw out a few thoughts while waiting for my turkey to defrost.

My idea for the large number of changelings is to keep the round brisk and action packed. Since changelings aren't a new idea in the SS13 verse, we've had many years to watch them interact in standard SS13 rounds. Long story short there is a risk of huge amounts of boredom coupled with round delaying. And, because I don't think we'll be allowing people to spawn into a match in progress, we want to wrap shit up quickly. An hour to an hour and a half is the maximum this game mode should be running for, as I see it.

I was a big Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne player, where they had massive amounts of custom maps similar to starcraft. DOTA made them jump from there, but there were -tons- of game modes that honestly should be full on games today but just never had the backing behind them. A lot of those custom maps back then are basically what CM is today, and there were several 'thing' themed maps as well. They were always my favourite. That and zombie maps.

I agree it's a large project, but I think it could be done within 3-4 months depending on the work ethic of the volunteers. Almost all the assets are already in place within CM and SS13s base code, it's just a matter of retooling them and kicking in a few new things.

It might sound good on a paper, but i reallity we'll probably just get some sort of a counter strike gamemode.

Changeling code doesn't even exist for us anymore. We replaced it.

I am no genius with coding so I probably sound retarded right here - But you know re-implementing the code and/or remaking your own changeling code overtime sounds like a possibility or is that only me?

You can't play changeling on a regular server without clowns and mimes tripping people with bananas, church people cutting someone open despite not being cult antagonists, or shitcurity putting you in solitary for an hour because you accidentally said: "pig" in a sentence. Most of the regular servers have turned somewhat cancer over the past year, which is why I've really been playing CM exclusively as of recent months.

Also, most of what is being described in this topic hasn't ever been done on any server as far as I know, so really you can't just go play changeling on on another server to get the desired experience.

The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all time so +100 for the blind hope that we get a return for changeling-esque monsters. Just make new ones. We don't need shitty old changeling code. It's eeeaaaasssy.

Now that I think about it. I would love if eventually we get more varied modes along similar vein to zombies, certainly not a main game-mode, but special antagonists that are admin-spawned/admin-run similar to zombies. So currently we have zombies as a functioning mechanic, that's neat. We should get more. Like, perhaps a 'The Thing' antag/mob created. Perhaps even some other things. Just as a long term thing for variation to mix it up from Xenos now and again, hardly a main project but perhaps a side thing that could be worked on. Though then again, that's just my thoughts because I miss changelings.

Stop killing my dreams snype! The point may be moot, however The Thing is right next to the aliens universe in terms of my favorite Sci-Fi worlds. The thought of being able to RP as a marine while also having all of the amazing detective work that such a gamemode would require is exciting to say the least.

I'd be willing to do anything in my power to assist in developing this idea further, whatever it may be.
