Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
Happy to oblige.
So are we all good on this? Any other questions/comments/suggestions/complaints?
Note: It's not "now or never". If there are any issues after implementing these new rules we'll fix 'em.

Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
I do have one question regarding spec weapons and ERTs
What ERTs and/or specific members are allowed to use spec related gear
PMCs for example, they are the only ert with defined specialist gear, but can the squad leader or a regular PMC use spec gear?
Bears have a SADAR on their pod sometimes.
Mostly asking for a clarification

Good question, yeah. Gonna read again and post anything I'll find.
I re-read everything, didn't find any more things that should be mentioned.

Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
There is one thing that has been bothering me for some time - Its about killing monkeys on the planet. I have asked staff and community several times, and I ALWAYS get different response. Some said it was allowed to kill monkeys as survivor at the start of the game, because survivors naturally know about xenos reproduction method, some said it was allowed, but considered dick-ish move and finally I have met response that, cite: "Friendly reminder that killing monkeys is not allowed, even if you know how Xenos reproduce." Does that include survivors? Are marines allowed to do genocide on monkeys once they learn that monkeys are being used as hosts for xeno reproduction? Is it considered powergaming? This could be wonderful opportunity to deal with this question once and for all, whatever verdict is. Maybe even write it as an example. Thanks.

I personally believe that any ERT except maybe Pizza should be able to use any weapon and do any task, be it engineering, medical, etc.coroneljones wrote:I do have one question regarding spec weapons and ERTs

Simply because it would be a pain in the ass to comb through each team and determine who can do what (and indeed with PMCs, each MEMBER) when you might want to allow a bit of leeway because if an ERT has been called shit is probably fucked anyway.

Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
I agree with Scrat. I have been warned for using a smartgun as a Dutch's Dozen, and I don't think that fits in with the integrity of ERTs. You are usually called in for the last battle, when a horde of xenos are knocking on the Sulaco's door. ERTs are not supposed to single-handedly turn the tide of the Sulaco battle, but should be more dangerous than 5-6 late joins with above average gear (you can only call them in once, after all). Thus allowing ERTs to use spec gear should be fine.

Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
A good way to "find out" if something is allowed is to visually put yourself in that situation. If you were a survivor and you know that Xenos are capable of using monkeys as hosts, would you kill them? I would. Is it a shitty thing to do? Uh huh. But hey, we want realism, so if your character would know about it, blow those hairy fuckers up. Then (politely) link this post to a staff member who's not on the same page.Arkatos wrote:There is one thing that has been bothering me for some time - Its about killing monkeys on the planet. Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
You should update Xeno Rule 3: "Do not kill infected hosts if they are defenseless or nested" since (as I just recently found out) the general agreement is "No harming nested hosts unless you are the queen, within reason".
Personally I didn't take that away from reading Rule 3 at all. Maybe I was just being to literal in my interpretation of it? I don't think I'd particularly blame a player for not drawing that conclusion from reading the rule. It might help to straight up replace "kill" with "attack", if we're going with the aforementioned agreement. Perhaps "Overly attack"? But that's so ambiguous.

TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

Re: Rule rewrite draft - Need community input
I recall a rule about not remembering past lives as a xenomorph. I glanced over both the current rules and the re-write and I don't see it.
Do we care about those larvas who pop out and say "Itsa me, larvio! I'm the loyal ravager who sacrificed myself to save you, my soul returned because I'm just so loyal. Also, screw you boiler, it WAS a stupid plan." What do you think about this, bearing in mind that the hivemind is a collective experience, and things are technically seen by everyone, or something like that?
