ITT just provide some examples of powergamingPowergaming is a style of interacting with games or game-like systems, particularly video games, boardgames, and role-playing games, with the aim of maximising progress towards a specific goal to the exclusion of other considerations such as storytelling, atmosphere and camaraderie. Powergaming includes, but is not limited to, performing actions outside your assigned job. Your skills or background DO NOT matter prior to the round - a standard marine with "a brother in Engineering" does not know how to hack an airlock.

What are examples of powergaming?
This is the definition of powergaming (just to provide an outline)
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

A specialist carries 2 powerpacks, carrying one at the smartgun kit and dragging the other planetside before even knowing about the xenos-Metagaming actually-.A Medic that hacks doors or an enginner that knows how to do the medical stuff just because of his background.

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
Powergaming is min-maxing, bringing shit down early that makes no sense.
For example, filling your bag with pistols and dragging an extra rifle behind you while filled up with every space on ammo is power gaming.

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
Most power-gaming mechanics are based around Human mobs. As SS13 was based around allowing human mobs to interact and do almost anything with their enviroment.
There is less power-gaming from Xenos as they are built upon what we ALLOW them to specifically do. Generally all their abilities and interactions are intended. As example, it is INTENDED to allow xenos to drag bodies away/around so it is not META or Powergamey for them to do.
Heres what i can think of.
Dragging a power-pack behind you.
Dragging a spare weapon behind you so you dont have to reload.
Having multiple primary weapons on you.
Dragging girders/objects behind you so when you get pounced the hunter bwoinks off it.
Dragging a locker behind you with multiple marines inside it. (Fixed awhile ago)
Doing multiple surgeries at once.
Loading the rasputin up with explosives to insta kill xenos upon entry. (Also meta)
Dragging soap to slip and dragging fellow marines behind you in the same process.
Setting up the sentry before landing so its super quick to deploy upon landing. (Also meta)
Rushing to the river to set up defenses instantly upon arrival. (Also meta)
Deconstructing all walls on the colony obtain the metal from it.
E-Grilling the entire hangar, ladders.
C4ing into the armory/opening the armory early for better weapons. (Also meta)
Changing your standard gear issued to you for ERT gear.
Pulling a smartgunner behind you so they dont suffer speed reduction. (Fixed recently)
Blocking ladders with items to disrupt clicking mechanics. (Resin, grilles and buildable structures are fine)
Dragging xenos around or off weeds once downed. (Meta as well)
Xenos pushing objects around for cover (somewhat fixed since dragging)
Using cleaner grenades to slip xenos upon shuttle landing.
Leaving your assigned squad to team up with your meta buddy.
Special mention; Corner Shooting is power-gaming and abusing mechanics. Its one of the only power-gaming mechanics both used by xenos and marines.
However since both sides abuse the fuck out of it, weve left it in as a feature since its difficult to fix.

Carrying a fireaxe and a backpack full and I mean FULL of welding masks with one on your head. Also dragging the You-tool machine to repair welding masks indefinitely because you can survive until the marines keep power going (hopefully) and using the You-tool machine as a girder as listed above, juking runners into rebounding off of it for easy kills combined with the Ayylmao mine in the temple.

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
I don't think this is much of a problem since one mistake is all it takes to fuck up entirely. It's like observing an infected Marine walk through a field of eggs and noticing they aren't jumping out at him, the only conclusion you can come to is that he's infected and has a limited amount of time to get the job done. You're fighting a battle that depends heavily on what decisions were taken, and a decision like that can and will affect the outcome greatly.Infected Marines aren't invincible either, they can be killed just as easily as everyone else, it's just the fact that xenos don't want to waste an opportunity to incubate a larvae in the event another Queen is needed. Now, if the Marine just did this without an observation, no motivation (Sulaco is in a FUBAR, all SLs and specs are dead, and the doctors have their hands full meaning a full retreat will cost them the very little time they have), and it's an early round, then it's powergaming.Simo94 wrote:getting hugger infected on purpose to run up to xenos and wipe them with buckshot is power gaming too

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
The powerpack example is horrible with the current powerpack capacity. 250 bullets. How many a standard has? 740. And a standard can carry a backpack of spare ammo in his hand and no one will call it meta, ever.

Dont Know weather to call it a bug or Powergame but when xenos purposely place them selfs into the resin doors and keeps watch on all four marines tackling them or something like that. Or Permanesting.. dont know if thats anything but i hope i could point something out.

got killed the other day as a drone by a marine who had two shotguns in each hand with the modification that lets you shoot shotguns one handed on both. both had buckshot. shit like that to me is power gaming. its like a total disregard of rp up to, but not pushing into meta.

Putting dead bodies onto either of the LZs as an alien (so they get gibbed once the rasp/pod lands)
This is the only example of powergaming as an alien that I have ever seen enforced.

Oh, here's an example of powergaming!
Seeing seven people cross river as you tell them not to, staying near the bank. Ten day ban.

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
The line between powergaming and metagaming is actually really unclear at times. A lot of things people consider powergaming would be perfectly in character even without knowing about ayylmaos. You are responding to a distress call that was automated, meaning its possible the entire colony died, you can make a lot of assumptions without overstepping your bounds, be it pirates, insurgents, terrorists, whatever. I don't see why a lot of stuff like bringing ammo is considering 'powergaming' And I definitely don't see why having two primaries is powergaming, when in most of the games you can carry that many and its a pretty cocky-marine thing to do.
People setup mines as soon as they land all the time and don't get called out for powergaming, but the second you bring a bag of spare APC control boards to the planet which is obviously without power for unknown reasons you get yelled at for muh powergames.

And let me carry that goddamn powerpack if my gun is not even slightly better than an M4, but a standard marine can pack five times more ammo.

Re: What are examples of powergaming?
You can make loads of assumptions, but military protocol limits you on what you can and cant bring.
This relates to real-life and in-game rules.
I'm a firefighter and 50% of them time I'm not allowed bringing our power-saw to the Hot Zone upon arrival.
Simply because, by protocol set by the department we must assess the situation before calling in additional tools and assets.
Its just how life works, but in our case for CM... a lot of these protocols are there to maintain balance and Medium RP.

Dragging a roller bed to the planet and making surgeries in the middle of Nexus where marines are wandering around, blood and acid flowing on the floor and not even washing your hands because spaceacilin can fix it.
When you do that, you don't look and act like a surgeon or doctor but like someone playing a video game.

If we could bring down a package of gloves that held literally a hundred disposable gloves. And started doing that shit it'd be basically a field hospital that just got too close to the battlefield lines. So no it doesn't look like a person playing a videogame. There's examples of this stuff happening in real life espically in war torn regions of the world, where you have doctors who volunteen to go with sometimes sub par supplies to treat people who are wounded or cannot get to or afford proper medical care and they work wonders.Szunti wrote:Dragging a roller bed to the planet and making surgeries in the middle of Nexus where marines are wandering around, blood and acid flowing on the floor and not even washing your hands because spaceacilin can fix it.
