Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
Byond ID: Grimreaperx15
Age: 23
How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter): Coder, although I've done mapping and spirting in the past.
If Coder, what languages?
I'd like to think I know C, C++, MOO fairly well. I have a decent understanding of PHP, Java, and BYOND, although my BYOND is fairly rusty.
Any previous experience developing with SS13?
Yes, I developed for it WAY back when SS13 was first leaked.
Proof of any previous or current work:
I believe stun batons are my sprite work, or are at least based off my original spriting. In terms of coding, I can provide various examples from other languages, and I wrote some BYOND stuff to warm up again, although it's nothing impressive.
How well do you know Git?
I've used it a few times, although I have no real experience with it.
Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? (Yes/No)
Yep.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Please excuse my BYOND ID, I made it when I was like, 12ish or however long ago that was.

Re: Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
Yeah, I've only been around a few weeks, maybe just over a month now. I realize it's not even close to in my favor and I'd understand if that was the sole reason for denying it.

Thank you for your interest. I would like to see something you've written for DM. As for CM, what makes you want to develop for CM? Since CM is currently closed source, would that pose a problem for you in terms of working in a team environment and listening to people (and probably making concessions)? What would you say is the most interesting part of CM? If you could change something, or add a major feature, what would it be? Who is your favorite community member (can be anyone, a player or a staff member)?

Re: Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
I wrote this up a few days ago to refamiliarize myself with BYOND, it's hardly anything worth while but hopefully shows I have a basic grasp of the language. If you'd like something more complex, let me know and I'll write it up. http://pastebin.com/NYP4hxb3
What makes me want to develop most is honestly it's a game I've really been enjoying, and I'd like to help make it better by fixing bugs and so forth.
I understanding working on a closed sourced project, and I've worked on several before, and I don't think any of that would be an issue.
To me, the most interesting part of CM is that each round has the ability to form an interesting story, while it doesn't always, you sometimes hear really cool stories of a lone marine who managed to save their squad, or sacrificed themselves to kill the Queen or whatever it may be, it can make for fun stories.
If I could change anything or add anything major, realistically, I think it'd be nice to move enforcement of roles to code-based solutions rather than forcing an admin to monitor it, for instance, a non-doctor almost always failing surgery, as opposed to an admin having to intervene if they see someone doing something their role shouldn't be able to. Another example could be anyone without specialist training having massive accuracy penalties and such to using specialist weapons.
My favorite community member is an awfully hard question, as I've not been around a very long time, so I guess I'd say Mordrehel, as they've helped me out a huge number of times with various questions while playing, although I suppose that could be said of almost any of the moderators/mentors who are around when I am.

I haven't seen much of you since December. Are you still interested?

Re: Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
I am, although I can't actually promise that I'd be able to do very much, I've been going through some real life issues since then, and without going into my life story, things haven't exactly been great.

Re: Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
Would you like to reapply when you've dealt with your issues? If now is not a good time, you're welcome to make an application when things settle down.

Re: Grimreaperx15 Coder Application
Hey, I've given it a few days thought, and I think that would actually be for the best. Hopefully it'll only be a few months at most, and I really appreciate you taking the time to consider it in the first place.
