Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.
1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
Players have control of the situation, no need to intervene for a singular shooting. Multiple instances of shooting players randomly might be cause for a griefing check, or at least logging the information for later on.
If there is a griefing instance during round start, and the ship is unable to handle it either due to the size of the griefing or the lack of ability to handle the situation (Lowpop) it might be proactive to ask for a mass healing/revival to reverse the griefing.
2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
No need to intervene normally if accidental. Check for griefing.
See if the ship is able to handle a hull breach situation without admin help(active crew), possibly with a centcom/comp. message
If the ship is unable to handle the situation normally, possibly look into asking for a possible breach fix decision. Extra weight if its Lowpop / griefing / inactive crew.
3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
Low priority, no need to intervene if their are other pressing issues at hand.
If the ship lacks the structure to deal with the problem, and no other problems are present, possibly check to see if assistance is required.
4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
Low to med priority.
Look into defusing the situation. If persistance is excessive, give warnings, then possibly look into logging evidence for a report.
Otherwise, talking is just talk, no need to give anybody trouble. stones and bones.
(rule 1)
5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Thats no problem, rules change and they are lucky they get to know a new rule before the hammer was dropped on them.
If the name is excessively vulgar or OOC (BlackGuys the sick x420z, suck my dildobaggins the 3rd), force the player into a new name decision.
If the name is only moderately OOC (arnold swartznegger, or such), work with the player into trying to find a new name if time allows. if not, let it slide and just leave a note that the player was warned to change their name the next time they play.
If they refuse the warning, hammers gotta fall. Ignorance is inexcusable, but rebellion is intolerable.
(rule 1, 7 , 10)
6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
IC issue, no need to worry.
7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
He better have a fine IC reason for surgery (Hes being talked through the surgery by a Dr. on the radio, Has a Medical book open, and is reading it, possible taking excessive amounts of time and RPing accidents). Otherwise, leave a warning and a note.
(rule 8)
8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
Messages from Central command and the Mother Queen do nicely. If excessive time is burning, possibly look into asking for a higher discussion from staff. Failing that, possibly a poll from the players to see if they want to draw the round and open a new one.
9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
Look into if it was accidental or excessive. Leave a note on the marine, with info attached. If excessive, End of round griefing, marine has to cool off.
Let the iron bear know that its getting sorted out to smooth things over.
(rule 1 and 7)
10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
See if the ship can handle it, if not, personal message, next step is Mother/centcom, after that, personal warning, and finally, put in a log and ask for a hammer.
(rule 1 and 7,)
11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Delicate situation. See if the issue can be resolved IC. Check to see if the situation was accidental or purposeful.
Log evidence, both sides, possibly more if murky.
Console dead party that the issue is being resolved.
Check for possible griefing
Give a warning and leave a note of possible findings. Ban if rule 7 violation is overwhelming.
Otherwise, log a warning.
12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
Let the bigger admins know, after that, outta my hands. See if theres a solution that might not need admin answers, summarize the situation up the chain of command.
13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Notify the offendee about possibly RPing a solution IC (Notifying command/marine law, working with the offender, walking away IC), if the situation is excessive, possibly a personal message to the offender to work out a solution. Failing that, let it slide If its minor racism thats IC. If it gets excessive, use Rule 1 as a warning to the offender.
14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
Log a note of incident, check to see if the ship can handle the situation without duress, if not, possibly look into asking for admin healing. Log in any evidence, drop a hammer for preventative control, leave a note for resolving.
(rule 7-11, big gulp special)
15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
Look into accidental griefing/new player. If more perverse, try to talk the player into re-engaging into the game. If the player insists on griefing, give a warning, then log a note and a cool off ban.
(rule 1 and 7)
16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
Ask the player to re-engage into the game peacefully if the situation is excessive/persistent, failure leads to warning, leads to cool off ban (No OOC IC. #10)
17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
Low priority, let the offendee know that you received the message if busy. Afterwords, see into re-engaging the offendee into RPing a solution (possibly mentoring the offender into RPing more)
If not, notify the offendee that no rules were actually broken, and that the server is indeed medium RP and allows for some lapse in decorum.
If offendee is still offended, Notify that the situation is declared as resolved in this particular game. Any other problems should be brought to the forum for possible discussion.

18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
Give the player a quick personal message to mind the meta. Possibly ask if they would like an out with a cover up Mother Message of faulty data, or if they can handle it on their own.
Failure to follow IC meta, leads to warning, leads to CentCom/mother message to resolve the issue IC. failure of that leads to cool off ban +note.
(rule 9 and or 8)
19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
Console dead party that the issue is being resolved if offended.
Check to see if IC solution is present.
Check for greifing.
Gather evidence.
Leave note of issue and findings.
Give a warning for future occasions. Ban for griefing if evidence is overwhelming on violating rule 7. otherwise, personal notice to remember rule 1.
The round is coming to an end, and should not need admin healing intervention. Its important to console the dead offended party, possibly asking them to give forgiveness for fail-rp of offendee. Make sure that offendee party should know how it is important that actors should not purposely prevent other players from playing the game.
20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
Talk to staff member on observations observed, ask for 2nd opinion on double checking. If staff member is excessively/Persistantly wrong, log info on the action and look into a second opinion from a higher chain of command.
20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
Notify the staff member about a possible second opinion on actions. No need to counter-correct. Much better to log info and then ask for second opinion after the fact from higher in the chain.
21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
Check to see how disruptive OOC chat is. If its not excessively disruptive (graphic, ERP, WGW sized paragraphs), then let it be, possible tuche if excessively successful at laying with mother, ask for a fatherly camping trip to colorado.
If excessively violating, give warning, then possible note and cooloff ban if persistent. (rule 1 and 4)
Any additional information you'd like to add?
Not much, just a dandy player who has spare time to help give overwatch on the server. I tend to err on the side of IC resolve, and using a heavy tome of words to resolve situations as opposed to actions.
