Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for? Banned on Paradise Server for killing someone about 6-8 months ago. I heard it was a furry server and decided to poke my head in. Really didn't like what I see, but played it out anyone and ended up killing someone. I appealed it in good faith, but never went back.

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? No, but I'm sure I can easily become familiar with it.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

IC issue, no intervention. Will add to player's notes.


2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.

If I'm correct in my assumption, I would assume moderators don't really have the power to fix that, and it would instead fall on the administrators. If there is a way for me to fix it, then I will. But that's as far as I would go.


3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

So long as he doesn't break any rules, it's not my problem.


4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

Keep an air of professionalism and politely remind them that if they'd like to make a staff complaint, they can do so on the forums.


5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

If it doesn't fit the naming rules, it doesn't fit the naming rules. Add a player note about his illegal name, and urge him to change it. If by next round he still hasn't changed it, add a second player note and politely remind him that he still hasn't changed his name (it's easy to forget).


6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

IC issue, not my concern.


7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Pretty sure Squad Medics aren't even capable of performing surgery.


8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

IC issue, not my concern.


9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

EORG is not acceptable. Question the player first to make sure he is aware EORG is illegal, and warn him not to do it again. Add a player note.


10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

IC issue, not my concern.


11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Warn him that is not proper escalation, give him a player note and a short ban to get the point across that is absolutely not okay, and revive the dead marine.


12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

Alert a current online administrator of the issue, either in-game or in Slack.


13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

IC issue, not my concern. Racism in roleplay is A-OK.


14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

Ban for a long duration (a week), revive marines. Add a player note detailing the event and recommending a permanent ban if such actions happen again in the future.


15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.

Check player notes, if empty than IC issue. If he has notes specifically about issues with xenos before, recommend a xeno temporary jobban.


16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.

Politely remind the player to uphold a basic standard of roleplay if it gets out of hand.


17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

Let the xeno player know that it's not a huge deal, and that they'll pick up the terminology.


18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

Remind the player that as a Command staff they are held to a higher level of roleplay, and they should be more than aware that humans are currently unaware of any xenomorph threat. Add a player note.


19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

Considering the context, it seems like an IC issue.


20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

Privately message the staff member and ask if they're aware what they said or what they're doing is wrong. Give them the correct information, or the correct interpretation of the aforementioned rule they are incorrectly enforcing.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

Alert a higher authority of the events with screenshots as proof/log information as proof.


21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

Any additional information you'd like to add?

CM is my favorite server, I have a great deal of love for it. I want to give back that love to the community in any way I can, and help the staff team in any way I can. You'd really be hard pressed to find a better staff on any SS13 server, and I'd be more than proud to be apart of it.

No offence, but this application is pretty lackluster in many different ways.

Your app is very bare-bones, several answers are flat-out wrong, and several of these flaws are made worse by the fact that some of the answers to the questions are explicitly stated in the rules, almost word for word.

There is, maybe, two on here that you can't possibly know unless you are on staff so I won't hold those against you but the rest are too awful.

You seem to think there are alot of things that wouldn't concern you. Don't you think mods should be concerned with the well being of the server and its players?

"IC issue, not my concern." is such a terrible thing to say on an application about joining the server as a staff. You're basically saying, "I don't care and I don't want to do any work."

I'm going to provide some comment on your answers before telling you what I think of the application overall.

1. Not an IC issue at all. No escalation rules were followed so at first glance this should make your griefing alarms go off. Why would you note this if it was an IC issue?

2. Moderators can both fix breaches and the air loss caused by them.

3. As a moderator, don't you think it's partly your duty to help people who are lost? Wouldn't you at the very least contact a Mentor?

6. What if he's not roleplaying at all or heads towards the dropships?

7. How would you deal with it if they were?

8. One of your duties as a moderator is to preserve the round and ensure it flows. If neither of the sides are interacting then the round isn't progressing. Why don't you think this is something you should avoid?

9. Violence between opposing factions such as marines and iron bears is not EORG, this is clearly stated in rule 7.

10. What if he's doing it wordlessly, with no RP at all?

11. You would ban this person on their first offense? How long?

13. Do you think any extent of racism is fine or is there a line that shouldn't be crossed?

14. Why is question 1 an IC issue and not this one? Is it because someone died? They can still be brought back. Furthermore, what would you do if said player's notes were empty?

15. So if the notes are empty you deem it an IC issue and do nothing, but if not you jobban them? Wouldn't you note the player's actions regardless of their history? How does the player's note history here have any bearing on wether his action is OOCly wrong?

16. Notes? Would you add them? What if they had previous notes?

17. This is allowed, there is no need to "pick up the terminology".

Your knowledge of the rules is severly lacking, I'm afraid. I share Tharinoma's and Emerald's wariness about your lack of concern over some of the situations presented above. I'm going to have to say -1 here.

If the amount of effort you put into this application is even remotely indicative of the amount of effort you would put into moderating, then it is going to have to a be a hard -1 from me.

The lack of detail in these answers is one thing, the answers that you have fleshed out are mostly wrong, you seem to think many things are IC issues when they arent, or even if they are the way you have worded them is rather appaling, and your answers to some questions made me wonder if you've even read the staff protocols, or for that matter, in a few cases, the server rules.

Big -1 on this.
