Byond ID: T306306
Age: 17 (One year short, cant blame me for trying)
Gender: Male
How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter): Mapper
If Coder, what languages? N/A
Any previous experience developing with SS13? TG station Syndicate spaceships, only small things like assisting in fixing broken parts of the ship maps, Mainly worked with the battlecruiser starfire.
Proof of any previous or current work: Again, not much, it was just small fixes, likes walls, and floors, but I do have a full understanding of the mapping software.
How well do you know Git? Very little unfortunately, Current devs may need to assist me in this regard
Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? (Yes/No) I fully understand
Anything else you'd like to add? I don't expect much from this, just trying my hand and asking. However I do primarily intend to work on ships and things to dock to the almayer more so than planeside mapping.

Re: T306206 - Mapper Application
I am not a coder or a mapper for cm.
So far I have not seen you ingame. That can be positive or negative.
Perhaps a bit against rule 2.
But one of the first things they will ask you for is an actual link to work you did. You have so far not provided any actual proof.
Even if it is only a small amount of work it might still tell them a lot.

Re: T306206 - Mapper Application
Generally speaking, you do have to be eighteen years of age or older before applying, and I'd personally welcome you to try another application after you've reached the required age limit!
That aside, it really helps us if you're able to provide some work, even if its just some small changes you've made with before/after pictures. Although, what helps the most is larger and more original work or at least extensive overhauls with before and after pictures. It is important for us to get an idea of how you map so we can better judge your skills and talents!
Git itself isn't too big of an issue, and you'll find most of us dedicated mappers are quite bad at it, but I'm sure we'd be more than willing to help run you through everything and get it set up if it would come to that!
Other than that, an important part of the developer team is that we like to pride on ourselves as working together like a family. Co-operation and the ability to work as a team, or at least live in relative harmony, is something that we hold very high within the group. It usually helps if you are a bit more active ingame, in the discord, or on the forums so we can get an idea of how you might fit in, but its definitely by no means a requirement! With that in mind, here's a few questions that you could answer:
1. Do you think you'd be able to work with us as a group?
2. When faced with criticism about your work, or the possibility of a feature you wanted to implement not being agreed upon, how would you react?
3. You mentioned you like working on ships the most and not as much planetside mapping. Would you still want to help out with mapping fixes and issues?
I'd really stress how essential it is to have some pictures to present to us so we can get an idea of how you map in SS13, even if it isn't necessarily thematic to CM itself. I look forward to hearing more from you, though!

I play Verena Knox, an extremely unlucky girl, among other characters.

Re: T306206 - Mapper Application
First off I would like to thank anyone that took the time to respond or even just to read.
Awan, Its strange that you haven't seen me on, I play daily now, and have been doing so for the past 2 weeks, at this point I can probably consider CM an addiction.
And to Okand, I can respect the age thing, but out of curiosity I ask how come administrators for the game can be 16 yet map makers with less power must be 18? Purely for curious reasons, I have no intent on asking for an exception. On to your questions, and thank you very much for asking questions, makes it easier for me to respond.
In groups I can work quite well, I often only need to be told what my job would be, for example focusing on one area, or doing one system like the vents.
When faced with Criticism I am very open to being told I am wrong, what often irritates me is if I am told I am wrong multiple times, without being shown, informed or in some other way taught how to correct my errors. Also if I were to become attached to a feature and it being rejected by the group I do tend to have a stalwart mentality about it, often trying to propose alternatives that serve the same purpose, however it is rare that I become this attached to an idea.
And finally, the ships, the main thing that inspired me in apply was an event round where a Corporate trading ship docked with the almayer, the Idea is very cool to me, however when ghosting the execution of the strangely built blocky ship did make me cringe a little. Things to dock would rather be a focus of my work, as I like working on small projects in high detail. However mapside work has not over gone me. When dealing with map repairs I would be more than willing to provide assistance, however if it is map development that involves a majority of 'outdoors' areas I will mostly likely be dissuaded from working, I find that replicating outdoor environments very difficult. However if the map in development was something along the lines of a city, I would be more than willing to support its design.
As per the pictures I'm afraid I took none, the best I can do is show a picture and tell you what I worked on, but that is rather shady on your side. So I will opt to make a small trading ship along the lines of the one that inspired me to do this. I hope that will suffice to show you my style.
I will join the discord soon, and see if I cant work up a rapport, to be honest I had no idea a discord existed :/ Never the less I hope to be able to work with the mapping team in the future. Thank you all for looking this over and responding.
(( Edit : I just realized there is a discord button at the top of the fourm... I now feel slightly blind in multiple ways))

Thank you for applying, I look forward to when you turn 18 and reapply with some example work to show.
