Colonial Marines Character: Melody 'Kitty' Vulkan
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Timezone: EST
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
Around 5-10 hours a week, perhaps more or less, depending on how much free time I have. I tend to play at least one round per day. Some days I’m also playing latenight when there are few mods on if that helps.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
I was a mod on a counter-strike server, then just a mod for some flash games.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
Nah
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
I used to play on tgstation a lot but now it's mostly just CM. Also some time on pretty much every server to see how different SS13 codebases are from each other.
Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
I'm on a waitlist for a mentor but I wanted to take it a step further.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
Nope
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Nope but it looks easy to use.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.
1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
I'd PM him to ask why he shoot the other guy. I'd check the logs to see how many times he shoot the other guy. If it was once then it could've been easily a miss click, if so I'd leave it as an IC issue. If he actually tried to seriously wound/kill other marine, I'd note him and ban him for griefing, depending on his note history.
2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
I don't think it's possible to make a breach but in a case it happened, I'd patch it up and see who did it, note and ban for griefing if he's abusing bugs. I'd also aheal people who died from that, because if that happened it must've been a bug and should not be possible.
3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
I'd message him asking if he was new, if so I'd try to get a mentor to help him, if there's no one available I'd try to help him myself.
4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
I would ask him to calm down and since I picked up his ahelp, he has to deal with me. If he continues to be hostile I'd note him for a rude behavior and maybe ban him to let him cool down.
5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I would tell him that someone else didn't notice that their name is breaking the rules but I did, so he has to change it. I would note him for using a wrong name and if I see him continue to use it, I'd appearance ban him.
6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
I would mark it as an IC issue.
7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
This should not be possible, but if it happens, I'd note them for power gaming and if they continue to do it, job ban them from medic.
8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I'd PM as a high command the acting CO where the hostiles are and to engage them.
9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
I'd tell him it's okay. Round continues until the server restarts. Since he is an enemy, marines can shoot him.
10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
I'd say this is an IC issue and it's MPs job to deal with such behavior. If he steals valuable items and harasses other players to the point where people ahelp him, I'd PM him asking him to stop and note him for griefy behavior. If it's not his first time, I'd ban him for griefing.
11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I'd explain to the marine that this is not a proper escalation. I'd check his notes and see how bad his note history is and also aheal the dead player if he's not getting treated. If he's new and confused about escalation I'd note him for this and tell him to never do this again, if he has notes for similar behavior I'd issue a 24 hour ban.
12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
I'd ping admins on slack and kindly them to come on if they have time.
13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
I'd tell the player that is an IC issue. If he's uncomfortable he can leave the area or do something about it IC, as long as it's reasonable.
14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
I would ban the marine for griefing and aheal these affected. I'd file out a permarequest for the griefer.
15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
PM the player and explain what he was thinking. I'd check the players notes. If he's new, he could be confused and not understand what he's doing. If I see him straight up run into a crowd of marines I'd jobban him from xeno.
16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
I'd PM the player, warning him for low RP and apply a note. If he continues to do it, I'd ban him for low rp.
17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
I would say it's okay to call it a dropship. Xeno can come up with names for things and dropship can happen to be one of them. Also xeno speak is just a translation of xeno's thoughts into English, so it's fine to call it a dropship.
18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
I'd warn him that he's not supposed to know this stuff and apply a note.
19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
I'd check the logs to see if there was an actual roleplaying involved. If the player roleplayed a distressed person who just wanted to live, I'd say it's okay. If he just decided to go crazy at the last minute, I'd ban him for murder.
20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
I'd nicely try to correct the fellow staff member.
20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
I'd save any evidence and go straight to the manager and tell them.
21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
Cool, I did the same with their dad

Any additional information you'd like to add?
I play this game a lot so why not spend some of that time actually helping the community!

Thank you for spending time going over my application and any feedback. I hope I can join the staff team.
