Azmodan412: Moderator application
Byond ID: Azmodan412
Colonial Marines Character: Tyler 'Thanatos' Borealis
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (East Coast, USA)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? Per week, I would say... 70 hours per week, 10 per day.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? I was a moderator on a Trouble in Terrorist Town server in Garry's Mod: Why not Zoidberg TTT.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? If a denied application for moderator when they were closed, and a Yautja whitelist application in the works count, yes.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? I am not.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? I have had a job ban of two weeks from Medical positions due to using the wrong source information.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
If a player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round, I would force-sleep the culprit, if possible, and examine damage logs. If he has hit and damaged other people, if I had the power, I would give him a three hour ban for griefing and add a note: Griefer: Shooting in briefing, hurting x amount of people.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Due to the new breaching rules, I would dive into the logs to try and see if the breach was intentional. If it was, I would track down the suspect and get his side of the story before going to other witnesses of the event. After all stories were accounted for, I would see if anyone was hurt or killed in the breach after I patch it up, if I had the power to, and I would assign griefing bans/notes accordingly.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
If the marines want the nuke codes because they claim to have lost too many marines, I would investigate the xeno:human ratio, which would be 1:5. I would deny the use of the nuclear codes, and figure out a creative way for the marines to get their, pardon my phrasing, get their asses in gear and finish the round. If they persist in dragging out the round, I would initiate a crew transfer through RP because logically, this crew is inept to finish the operation.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
If the Researcher made several napalm grenades and issues them to marines, I would firstly hold the Researcher and marines themselves responsible for super-grenades. I would then point out that super-grenades such as napalm grenades fuck with Atmospherics and I wouldn't have the power to fix it if I could. If any marine players die from the napalm grenade and subsequent Atmospherics fuckery, I would have to job ban the Researcher for making the super grenades in the first place.
5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I would ignore the player as it is childish and I have better things to focus on. If he continues to do such things, I will have to ahelp-mute him, if that is possible for moderators.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I would confront the marine privately, informing him about Marine Rule #2 which is about naming your character. I would keep an eye on the CKey in case he/she doesn't change it next round. I would add a note that says: Refusing to follow staff instructions
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I would say that when they opened the CM home screen, or joined the game, they would see the phrase: Ignorance is no excuse. I would tell them so and if no one has told them to change it, I would say that maybe no one else cared because they are enjoying the game.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I would ask the doctor why he is carrying an M41A rifle on his back while there is work that needs to be done. If he says it is to fight off the xenos boarding, I would reply that it is no excuse. He is a doctor, not a marine and there are people needing him. He is one of four or five individuals maximum aboard that are allowed to do surgery, so I would tell him to drop the gun, get to Medical and work, or he will get a job ban.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
If the squad medic is performing surgery, I would keep an eye on it. If it is to stabilize the patient for transport to the Sulaco, then I wouldn't have a problem, but if it isn't, I would confront him. If he claims that there were no doctors in the FOB, I would say that it is the CMO's job to authorize doctors to go planetside, and the CMO gets authorization from the CO. Its not the doctor's call, its the CMO's and by proxy, the CO's call to send a doctor to a dangerous position.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I would provide an RP way for the marines to leave their turtling to go to the planet, possibly by way of Weyland-Yutani missives. The missives would promise to give the marines who kill the last four unknown biosignatures extra pay and some shore leave at an R&R facility. If this doesn't work, I would type in OOC for the marines to, pardon the phrasing, get their asses in gear. If this doesn't work, I would initiate a crew transfer.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
I would force-sleep the marine right away, ask him WHY he is unloading on other marines. If he says it is in celebration, I would ban him for three hours, or the typical length of ERG situations. Prior to the ERG ban, I would inform him that hurting the same race after round end would be considered ERG and add a note to his CKey about the situation.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
I would remove the soap and PM the marine that using soap to slip marines falls under the 'Don't be a dick' rule. If he finds another bar of soap to continue doing it, I would force-sleep him, delete all the soap I can find, then wake him and proceed with the round.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I would at first check damage logs. If it was one or two punches, that would be considered nonlethal and I would give the marine a three hour ban for griefing, escalating the situation and add a note accordingly. If there was three or more punches, it would have been lethal, and the marine punched should have ahelped about it. Since he didn't, any healing I would have been able to give and any assistance would have been forfeit.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
I tried Skype and I have failed to set it up on multiple occasions so I use something called Curse in its place.

I don't really feel that a 3 hour ban for grief is the minimum at least, for ERG yes but for killing a marine (I can't to quotes due to on a phone I the middle of the night). As for saying stuff in OOC, I would assume you meant the mother and not the OOC chat as its not nessesary and is quite akward to IC something said in OOC.

EDIT: Just want to say that administrating a ttt server is just completely useless and does not help with your appeal since it's all Rdm and rdm and grief and Rdm and mic spam. Sorry for the rant but that's why I now play ss13.

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

Sometimes, TTT servers actually don't RDM constantly and there is always staff on to deal with that problem in the bud. WNZ is one of them.
Edit: WNZ has a karma system where if you hit below 600-700 karma, 1000 is normal, you are automatically banned.
Edit: Look at the resolved and current ban appeals and see how long griefing bans are.

I am sorry for that rant but I know the karma thing is NEW, oh yer I know when all it did was decrease damage. Oh i am just salty with all my experiences with gmod but bloody hell... But back to the appeal, but seriously if people are shooting people in briefing its at least a one day ban because it's multiple rule breaking.

I am getting to amped up over hearing the wor ttt in a long time. But I don't understand why you would swear at the marines in OOC chat, you would fax the liaison or mother /centcomm announce it in.

Telling people to get their asses in gear isn't really swearing at them. Re: Azmodan412: Moderator application
Some of your answers were decent, some were more worrying than others. Number 9 is one example. Not having skype would also be an issue, but that should be rectifiable.
Also, logging in 70 hours, you wish. But I appreciate the enthusiasm.
You're over-thinking a lot of your answers. A lot of the answers are straightforward, with the new ruleset incoming.
While you're a very decent player, I don't think you're suited for this yet, based on the app. I have to see you in-game more, and if progress shows, I'm more than willing to change my vote. For now, -1.

Re: Azmodan412: Moderator application
Banning times are not really set in stone and as such you have alot of freedom on how long you want to ban someone as long as you use commonsense in it. Personally for someone greifing at round start I would have done a 3 day ban pending perma.
Your response on 3 is worrying as staff protocols clearly state you cannot give Nuclear codes without approval from a head... yet you did not state that.
As for 9 NEVER use OOC to push IC action. We have recently put forward a "mother" verb that allows you to use the ships AI for that stuff although I can't blame you for not knowing.
And on 12 the ruling about staff assistance is only there for healing. You should still investigate the situation fully and deal bans/notes if deserved.
Overall your responses are moderate but your notes show a history of skipping and breaking rules even if they are mostly small. However regardless of that I am willing to give a +1 because we could use new mods and I think you have the potential.

Im neutral
Youre very up and down as a player, somedays youre really great and others you do questionable things.

Going with Feweh's response, I have seen you do quite well and other times I am not sure what the hell you are doing. So going with the neutral here, Allan pretty much summed up my thoughts on your answers though.

Buddy lemme give you a little run down of how my life went at one point as a administrator. I woke up at 5 AM. I went to bed at 12 AM. I literally dropped all my time just about into CM and I was logging around 80/90 hours. Keep in mind that was basically a REAL work routine. Now I have a job and I work when I can and I do what I can. You start out thinking hell yeah I am gonna do all the things. Than you realize oh sweet god I have to do all the things. Trust me I appreciate the enthusiasm but some of the questions seem really overly thought. Neutral for now gimme some time to think about this one

Re: Azmodan412: Moderator application
The hours you posted are unrealistic, and I'll leave it at that.
The majority of answers are alright; however the few that aren't I really don't like. 11 and 10 just aren't handled in a way I like at all. You don't warn for ERG (thank you for ERG), so it's basically just an instant 3 hour (unless they have notes). For 11, why would you delete every soap in existence because one guy misused it? Banning the guy would've been a better option since he's clearly a player not in the mood to play properly.
Personally I'm going to have to give a -1 to you.

Re: Azmodan412: Moderator application
So , you have answered most of the questions pretty good but as previously mentioned some were a bit questionable.
I have played with you or at least observed matches that you're playing in on a number of occasions and you seem like a pretty decent player.
Also what another staff has said we do need a couple more moderators so I'm willing to give you a shot +1

Now i've played CM for a decent amount of time, and you were active, but not THAT active.

Neutral,
I know who you are in-game and you have never really reflected negatively in my opinion. But these answers are bit overthought, you seem to disregard that a Moderator would not be permitted to influence the IC events in any manner such as "Weyland-Yutani Missives" other than CL Fax's. Additionally, for EORG we don't sleep the griefer, it is just an instant note + 3-hour ban.

I have a tendency to overthink things. My family always sums it up neatly: Ask me the time and I tell you how to build a watch.

I have seen you basically do things so often where its not against the rules but we should be banning you for it. Not much input was thrown here so I am going based off what I see here and what I have seen in game and I am going to say with Denied
