TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Byond ID: Talkingcactus
Age: 18
Gender: Male
How would you define yourself? (Coder, Mapper, Spriter): I would define myself as a mapper, however I am capable of some basic coding/spriting.
If Coder, what languages?
Any previous experience developing with SS13?
I've been developing for SS13 since early November 2015. I'm currently a mapper for the Halo:SSE server and a developer for Citadel Station 13
Proof of any previous or current work:
Here's some of my edits to the Metastation map from /tg/
Engine: before after
Armory: before after
Research Department: before after
I've also completely remade the derelict station and asteroid mine, including the mining station, derelict mining station, and labor camp. If you'd like to see those you can find it on my GitHub account.
How well do you know Git?: I know how to use GitHub pretty well.
Your primary job is server development, not policing the server. You may be given Moderator-level of access but you should *not* be invoking any administrative actions unless there are no moderators or Admins online. Do you understand? (Yes/No): Yes, I understand.
Anything else you'd like to add?:
Here's a link to my github account if you'd like to look at my work in more detail.
I'm always looking to improve myself and improve the experience of the player in the games I make or collaborate on. Colonial Marines is probably my favorite Space Station 13 server and I'd love to make it an even better experience for the players who come after me.
I'm also familiar with the mapmerger tool, though I haven't been using it for my Citadel map edits because nobody else is collaborating with me in that repository.

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Spoilers:
I take pretty much noone that isn't Dev Team's opinion into account for Dev applications.
MadSnail, Other guy who I don't remember, I have literally 0 clue who you are, so I deleted your posts on this, as it seemed like you were trying to interrogate and berate him, and that's not your job.

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Alrite, do the 3 tasks below and post them once you are done, either one by one or all at the same time.
Task I
Map 4 different types of space ships (transporter, escape shuttle, etc...). Make sure that you don't map 2 of the same type, unless they have something specific to tell them apart (example: Cargo transporter and Anomalous objects transporter). As for size, think of escape shuttle from paradise, you can make them bigger if needed. No need for piping. Must be intact (No destroyed/wrecked ships!)
Task II
Pick a large department (Science, medbay, security...) from any codebase and make it look like some serious shit happened there. Make sure to put as much detail as possible.
Task III
Surprise me.
Make something you can't see every day. Can be a situation, one special room, few connected ones, a map design, anything.
Feel free to ask any questions here or in my inbox if you don't understand something or need an better explanation of tasks. Good luck!

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Would you like me to put in things like airlock access restrictions and things like that for the shuttles and stuff, or is it fine to just use stock airlocks and other configurable equipment? (Just for the sake of getting this done faster)Infernus wrote:Alrite, do the 3 tasks below and post them once you are done, either one by one or all at the same time.

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
You don't need to add anything to object variables except adjusting pixel_x and _y if you want to make it look like it is on the wall.
For example, if you are making an airlock cycle for the shuttles, just stick 2 external doors and a door control object on the wall and that is it.

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Alright so here's task 1 completed. I decided to use some of the shuttles I was designing for the Halo server, which are fully drive-able and such so they need APCs and all that jazz. These airlocks are actually my first attempt at creating them in baycode so they may or may not be correct, though I did look at a few examples and try to emulate those as best I could. They may be slightly smaller than you were expecting, but this is only because of technical/logistical restraints on the shuttle system for the Halo server (anything larger than 15x15-16x16). No Halo-specific sprites were used (except for the salvager voidsuits).

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
Sorry to assign you another task, but this will be the last one.
Design a small "station" no smaller than 50x50 or bigger than 100x100 that looks like it has been under sustained attack for awhile, but hasn't collapsed and has some resources for defense.
This is relevent to our sort of "style".
If you can do this, and it looks good, I'll bring ye aboard.

It's been a busy month for me. In the essence of time, would you like me to prioritize this task over the remaining two?apophis775 wrote:Sorry to assign you another task, but this will be the last one.

Yes. The one I gave you, will be the determining factor. Doesn't have to be super detailed, I just want to make sure your able to do a good job of "decorating".

Re: TalkingCactus' Developer Application (Mapper)
I'm sort of on a hiatus from SS13 and coding for a while to focus on school. I may apply again over the summer, though. I also don't really think mapping is my strongest attribute anymore and would probably apply to just be a coder or general developer.

I know other staff don't really count here. But I know TalkingCactus from another server and he does pretty good work so...good luck man.
