Northcote4's Mod App - Infestation Spreading
Byond ID: Northcote4
Colonial Marines Character: Jackson Marbo/Th'syra Kiloun-Kujhade
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Timezone: +9:30GMT (Currently +10:30 due to daylight savings)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? Probably around 20. However I'm currently having internet issues that'll last until the new year.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Only once that I can remember. I was a mentor-equivalent on a minecraft server and eventually promoted to mod and later unofficial-admin. Lasted around 2 years.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? As far back as pre-alpha with corroders.
What other servers do you play on? Lifeweb and Paradise.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? Lifeweb and Paradise.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before? Only a Predator application.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? No.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? No.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)? No.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? Yes.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
Try and find the reason and act accordingly. If it's grief-firing and hitting players, sleep the player ASAP and follow up with necessary punishments and heals. If it's accidental, educate them on trigger discipline. If it's the result of people disarming one another, keep an eye out but let the situation resolve itself.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
Try and find the cause. If it was caused by a xeno, get the breach sealed ASAP and have some words with whoever was responsible. Keep an eye out for repeat offences.
If it was caused by the marines, it's more-or-less their problem to deal with this point. Exceptions would be made if the breach was caused by blatant grief, in which case it would be handled as above.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
Deny the codes, maybe force a MOTHER announcement if the next one is too far away.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
First and foremost I'd do my best to try and find out the intent. If the grenade was used with intent to grief, punish it as such. If it was an accident leave it to the medics and doctors.
I'd probably also pass a word along to the researcher, advising them that perhaps handing out powerful grenades to every Tom, Dick and Harry is not always the best idea. However he wouldn't have actually done anything wrong in my eyes.
5. A player is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
Kek heartily.
But if he keeps going at it and is taking things seriously, eventually I'd have to enforce rule 1 about respect, eventually escalating to adding a note and perhaps a minor ban.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
Inform the marine of the naming rule and that they should change it next round. If the name REALLY doesn't fit, negotiate with them to change it immediately via magical staff powers.
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
Point them to the section of the rules that specifically state the naming rule is retroactive and begin negotiations to find an acceptable alternative name that fits within the naming rulse.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
In most circumstances he should be reminded of the rules, specifically the sections about doing one's job (don't pick doctor and play marine) and the limitations to armament that all Sulaco-bound staff have to abide by (pistols only). There may be situations that require exceptions to be made, however, such as late-game post Sulaco-boarding.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Remind him that Medics are not permitted to perform surgery. However allow him to finished/reverse the process so as not to inconvenience the patient. Whichever is faster/safer.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
If there are 30 marines and 4 xenos, I would lean more on encouraging the marines to take action. MOTHER reports or even High Command messages would hopefully be enough to persuade them. However ideally I would allow the situation to resolve itself without having to resort to any more active measures, such as buffing/debuffing one side or the other.
Of course if the situation were flipped, it'd then be necessary to encourage the XENOS to make the assault. Either via Queen-Mother messages or simply blatantly PMing the Queen and discussing reasons to assault.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Investigate. If it's friendly fire in an attempt to kill some type of hostile agent, those unfortunate marines will just have to suffer.
If it's EORG, sleep them, inform them of the rule and apply the automatic ban as needed.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Keep an eye out. Once or twice is fine but if he's going overboard ask him to stop and point him to the rules as necessary.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
Inform him of the rules regarding proper escalation and check the logs to confirm, as well as previous note history to find out whether it's a repeated offence that warrants a ban or not.
It may be necessary to heal the dead marine depending on whether or not the fight was intentional.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
If my title could be some kind of... Evil super mentor, that'd be great.
Otherwise nothing to add that I can think of at the moment.

I know Northcote to be a good player. I've known him since I started playing here and I like his attitude a lot. I think he'll be a valuable addition to the team.

North is an excellent mentor and his answers are great except 5 because I doubt a ban would be necessary, but all in all you get my +1

North's been a great mentor in the time I've known him. With the experience, I think he can handle being a mod.
Now for the joke answer.
We're going to officially deny North because he's lying about his age.
Unofficially, he's a Brazilian sleeper agent that will turn on us when given any amount of power.
