Kailey Prevatt - Moderator Application
Byond ID: Kailey Prevatt
Colonial Marines Character: Kailey 'Pinkie' Prevatt
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Timezone: AEST +10 (Not summer) (Australian Eastern Standard Time) or AEDT +11 (In summer) (Australian Eastern Daylight Time) (Here, it's summer from December to the end of February)
On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
~2-5 on weekdays ~6-10 on weekends
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
Yes.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No.
What other servers do you play on?
FTL13, TG, Project UNSC.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
FTL13, TG.
Have you had an application to Colonial Marines before?
No.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
Nope.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
No.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, where and When (roughly)?
No.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
Yes.
Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each situation (BELOW) the situation. If you start it on the same line, I'll assume you can't follow directions and auto-decline your application.
1. A player is firing his weapon in the briefing area near the start of the round.
If it doesn't hit anyone and it's only one shot I'll assume it's a misfire, but keep an eye on them.
Otherwise I would freeze them, note them, and ban them according to their note history.
2. The Sulaco has a breach to space.
If the only cause is the Rasputin crashing I would ignore it.
If not, I would jump into the fix breach mode and fix it up, then proceed to investigate who had caused the breach, upon finding the source, I would note them, and warn them, based on their response and notes I would determine if a temp-ban is required.
3. The marines want the nuke codes because they claim they are losing too many marines. There are currently 4 aliens and 20 marines in your /who.
I would ignore the marines, and let them find another way of dealing with the situation.
4. A Sulaco researcher has made several napalm grenades and hands them out to marines. One of the marines throws the grenade into Logistics. There are no admins or other moderators online.
If the grenade is thrown at aliens in logistics (primed or not), I will ignore them.
If the grenade is thrown at people in logistics, (not primed), I will check if he was just throwing it over to give it to the guy, if it was attempted assault (which would be determined by the actions done after, eg. Dialogue, trying to run away, ect.) I would check their notes, if they are note-heavy I will give them a short ban (determined by the amount of notes)
5. A played is starting to talk about the things he did with your mom last night over Ahelp.
I would mark the Ahelp as "No response necessary"
If I was already talking to them, I would ask them to stop so we can get back to what we were doing, if they do not stop, I will ignore them.
6. You notice a marine with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules.
I boink them and ask them to change their name before the next round starts.
6a. The marine is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, noone has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
I would let them no that just because noone has noticed it before, does not mean that it is right, then remind them that ignorance of the rules, is not an excuse.
7. You see a Sulaco Doctor with an M41A rifle strapped to his back running around the briefing area. There are wounded in medbay, and the other doctor is in surgery.
I would boink the doctor and tell them that they're not following SOP, that they're not allowed to carry around large weapons, and that they should go do their job if they don't want a job ban.
8. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
I would tell him that Squad medics aren't trained in surgery and that his excuse is invalid.
9. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the Sulaco, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
I'd let an admin know via Msay, if there are no admins on i'd subtle message the leaders (Commander and queen) to do something, and that they're holding up the round.
10. The round ends, and a marine starts unloading his weapons on other marines.
Note him for EORG and bannu him for 3 hours.
11. A marine who has recently awoken is using soap to slip other marines.
Check their note history for Griefing, if they have griefed before I'd keep an eye on 'em.
12. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
I would note them for improper escalation and let them know that what they did is wrong. If it is a common occurrence I'd file for a ban.
Any additional information you'd like to add?

Re: Kailey Prevatt - Moderator Application
You've seemed like a decent mentor from what I've seen but to the application, overall I feel its nice but a tad light on details. A few issues I can see shall be listed below
- Overall I'm seeing a lack of bwoinking/pming the player to tell them what they are doing wrong.
- For question 2, make sure to include SM and pred bombs to that list
- For question 4, make sure to get the sides of the stories of the guy who threw the nade and at whom since it can reveal the mindset the player was in and might explain their reasoning of why they preformed those actions. Also might want to include a heavy amount of relevant notes.
- For question 5, if the player doesn't stop make sure mute their ahelping ability and note it down
- For question 6, make sure to note the player with the inappropriate name included in the note.
- For question 6a, remind the player about rule 1 and following staff's request and if they feel you are wrong, ask them to change their name still but they can file a staff complaint here: viewforum.php?f=118 . If they are still persistent after tell them that, mute their ahelping ability for the round and note the player on the occurrence
- For question 7, make sure to note it down
- For question 8, what would you do after telling them their excuse is invalid?
- For question 10, don't need to note the player since when filing a ban you will provide a reason for it
- For question 11, if its something minor, you might simply let it play out ICly
- Overall this application falls into the trappings of the double standard of mentor's apps generally should be better than the average standard player's app since you guys work with mods daily and you can see the process at work from behind the curtains. Like I said with Spheretech's app this would of been an ok general player's app but from a mentor, it just feels lacking (nothing personal)

Re: Kailey Prevatt - Moderator Application
Spoony as always has popped in and given a pretty comprehensive rundown of how this app can be improved. I would like to see you give an answer to his question on number 8.
As for you yourself, I've watched you as a mentor, and I think that any hangups we have can be worked on in trial like with Spheretech, so I will go ahead and give a +1.

1+ Haven't seen you do anything remotely bad. Also I thought you were a mod already. Must have been someone else.

After telling them that their excuse is invalid, I would ask them to finish the current surgery ASAP (So the guy's day isn't ruined) and ask them to leave the marine alone, then note them. I'd keep an eye out for it happening again. If this has happened before, I'd note them and file for a ban for not following the job rules.slc97 wrote: I would like to see you give an answer to his question on number 8.

Actually, you would tell them to close the guy up an medevac them immediately. They cannot finish the surgery.

Ah, right. So I'd ask the dude to cauterise the patient, then send him up. Got it.
