Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

Situation dependent. If it's just one shot with a Rifle/SMG/etc, I would allow the player to get treated by the Medics to allow the RP to move forward. If it's an accidental misfire, they happen. If it were a few bursts, people in crit/dead, Aheal, sleep the player. I'd note the player if it was a first time occurence and if they were respectful in follow up PM's or mentioned they were newer I'd have a mentor give them some quickstart guides to read while they were in the brig. If it's a longer term player that I recognize griefing, note it. 3 hour ban if its a first time griefing occurence.


2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.

Per Snype, all breaches were supposed to be fixed. Depends on if the dropship caused it, for example. Generally fix unless it's supposed to be there (Predsplosion, Dropship)


3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

Mentor Squad, DEPLOY! Also, welcome to the server.


4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

Situation Dependent. If its something minor like a small ban I'd be applying, I'd encourage them to make a staff report regarding what they feel I'm failing to do properly. If this is a larger scale issue or I'm involved personally, I'd check slack for an Admin who can potentially handle the situation to prevent a conflict of interests.


5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Let 'em know, as friendly as I possibly can be via text, that it ain't them, it's their name! Let them know that while they've had a pass due to mere happenstance, it doesn't change that the name has to be changed.


6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

Subtle Message a MP that there may be a rule breaker about - be it wandering the halls or whatever. If its a new player, get a mentor to help 'em out!


7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

Tell them to cauterize the wound and close it up immediately. Note them and make sure they know to never, ever do it again.


8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

ARES Report numbers to the Marines and Queen Mother message the Xenos encouraging them to go up if the Marines still fail to mobilize.. while attempting to get a small XRT for the Xenos.


9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

Mark Ahelp as No response necessary. Notify the player that hostiles can still continue to fight post round end.


10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

Pretty low RP behavior. SM an MP and note the player if it's edging on griefing.


11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Note them for improper escalation. Apply 3 hour ban>24 hr>3>7 depending on prior note history.


12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

Summon them by casting Slack Ping.


13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

Encourage the player to retaliate IC if they feel the need. That being said, there's always a point where it crosses IC Racism and goes into OOC Racism and needs to be addressed.


14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

Apply a minimum 3 day ban, Aheal the wounded, carry on.


15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die

. PM the player asking why they decided to rush in and suicide. I can think of very few reasons to rush towards the front line, but perhaps they'd sway me. Otherwise, apply a job ban from Xeno.


16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat. Occassional memeing is done by Xenos and Marines.

Depending on the players level of Meme'ing and all that jazz, notify them they should dial it back a bit.


17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

Perfectly fine to call it a DS.


18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

Notify them that they have zero knowledge of the Xeno presence below and provide an OOC announcement requesting Marines not use that Meta knowledge planetside.


19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

At the least, have a hearty chuckle. At the most, give the player a SM about how they may regret their actions... but they'll at least be alive to regret them. (Completely IC, no action necessary)


20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

Notify them in msay that they're giving the wrong info, if they stick to it, escalate.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

Document and Report to the higher powers.


21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

Shrug it off, don't even acknowledge it.

Chubs is a great player overall, no doubt about that, hell he managed to get approved for the Pred and CO whitelists. He previously was a mentor for the staff team so he definitely know the protocol and would be able to keep a level head when dealing with ahelps. Previously he has expressed a want to join up as a moderator even as a mentor. Overall I'd like to say I know Chubs fairly well, I like the answers he gave and we speak often and I have no doubts that he'd make a superb moderator as someone who recently told him to apply for it.

Gonna throw in my 3 cents. I think that I was a mentor with him for a little while, but I’ve seen his character a lot. Hes always a trip and remains professional. Overall I agree with kavlo and think he’d be a fantastic addition.

But he does have like, basics down so perhaps this is fine enough?

Either way, I still believe that symbiosis will be a fine moderator and he probably knows the protocol enough even with these answers.

Sym is a great player, however, just like skysoldier said, I cant help but think that you should have put the extra effort into answering the questions in more detail, since they are a bit vague.

Sorry if you felt it was rushed - intent wasn't to rush it; but provide a quick and concise answer! Dabble in a bit of humor when I could as well. I'm pretty knowledgeable on our rules from both my time as a mentor and as a moderator - I wanted to go the "short and concise" route on answering the questions.

I assure you if accepted, I intend to give every investigation the player and the server deserves.

A rather upstanding chap who was once a splendid mentor.

I'm actually quite fond of his blunt and rather plain answers, I'd rather this than read someone "I left click on my mouse then begin to slowly move my right hand to..." and so on just to appear that they've got more on the table.

Apologies if you took the lack of lengthy responses as low tier, it was not my intent. I could think of many situations, for example, of when Meme'ing gets to the point of Mod involvement - and when it is just par for the course.

I tried to keep my answers short purposefully... as it gives less wiggle room on interpretation. Concise and clear was what I was aiming for. If you've any questions or concerns with my answers I'd be more than happy to provide an answer at any time!

I think it's a good app. The responses are brief but never feel they're padding out for words and in none of those I'm in doubt over what he meant. I specially appreciate the less heavyhanded responses compared to other applying moderators - Question 19 being the most notable, as I've always felt it's more of an IC issue (not much can be done when the pod countdown is right around the corner other than a voice line going "Get out of the way, I don't wanna die") whilst other mods basically said they'd require eons of roleplay not to give a 24 hour ban.
