Colonial Marines Character: Alex Rossfield
Age: 22
Gender: Male

On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?
I play typically a few rounds every day. So about 40 to 50 hours a week possibly more, that I can play or moderate.
Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)?
I don’t have any experience being a staff outside of working alongside staff and people when it came to be in several communities throughout my time gaming. Though nothing has given me direct experience on being staff. I’m in my ability to learn.
Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers?
None so far. Though I did join 2 rounds around 1-2 years ago if that counts when it was the Sulaco.
What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM?
I have only played on Paradise Station throughout my time on Space Station 13.
Provide links to any previous Colonial Marines applications that you've made:
None yet.
Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where?
I am not staff on any other communities currently.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines?
I have not been banned on Colonial Marines.
Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for?
Both were from Paradise station, when and reasons for the bans are given below.
2016-11-21 20:47:31 -- keroman -- Banned for 4320 minutes - Did 120 burn damage to someone who only took his ID off of him, didn't attack or anything else. You know better than this, come back in three days.
2017-03-30 02:06:04 -- jayfeather -- Banned for 6600 minutes - Metagaming as a changeling ghost. Looked for a particular corpse before last resorting to it. Ghost of Alex Rockwall (follow|body) salts, "I SHALL ROB YOU ARTHUR" even announced his intentions.
Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)?
No, I have not used it before though I can learn it if it isn’t to difficult of a program to learn alone or I have someone able to teach me.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.
1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.
Let the MPs handle the situation in character. I would check the logs on what happened between the character and if I had any questions message the MPs and the player in question on what happened. I would also check the player’s notes to see if they have shown similar behavior before to determine if they deserve a punishment at all
2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.
Depending on what caused the incident I would have to find out what went on to cause the breach. Patch the hole and heal those who are injured. With CM’s atmospherics problems and rules a ban might have to be given out if its grief and the player has had previous negative notes.
3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.
Message any online mentors to help the player if they clearly look new to the server, if there are no mentors on the server I would message the player myself to assist.
4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.
Depending on what the player said that is quite rude a swift ban would be given to the player for inappropriate behavior toward a moderator. Though as per the rules they should make a complaint on the forums if they really wanted to fight against my decision.
5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.
First check their notes if someone has already had this discussion with them, if not inform them that they are to change their name as it doesn’t fit in with the lore of the server and follow the server rules. If they really wish to change their name back I would tell them they can make a forum topic on the subject for admins to discuss.
6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.
First check their notes and if nothing mentions behavior close to this style in recent weeks, since this is an IC issue it might be important to know if they have done this before and write a note on the player if they end up doing something against the rules.
7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.
Though overall this is impossible with the current skill update if it was possible though….
First thing is to check the player’s notes to see if they have done anything pertaining to powergaming/metaknowledge before and if they were warned or banned already. Depending on their history either a job ban, or a general ban term ban would be required due to clear act of having not read the rules.
8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?
As a moderator I shouldn’t be influencing a round in that way. Though if I could I would try to get the commander to send marines groundside and kill the rest of the aliens due to the low population of aliens left or try to get the alien queen to attack through a soft message on their chance to win against the marines.
9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile IRON BEAR and the IRON BEAR Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.
I would inform them that as an antagonist they should be expected to be shot by marines as one. There isn’t much to be done since EORG (end of round grief) doesn’t pertain to antags in the round.
10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.
First off, I would try to gauge the situation on why they might be acting in this way, check their notes, and then see if this requires admin intervention. If it does need moderator intervention then after checking their notes for previous grief-like activities I might have to give them a 3 hour ban or a warning to stop. If they continue, obviously a ban will be given due to the lowRP actions.
11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.
The first thing I would do is check everyone’s notes and investigate the logs that pertain to everyone involved so I have enough information to give the correct punishment. While this might be IC if it escalated to that point but all he could think to tell me was what started it slowly would chance my decision. If the player did kill for no obvious reason, then a ban would be given for breaking the rules.
12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.
Well as a moderator I shouldn’t be using admin+ abilities. Moderators are only for making sure people are following the rules not influencing the round. Only time it would be fine is if told to by a game admin that they need me to solve the issue, though otherwise I would not use any of the powers of a moderator without notifying a game admin or higher.
13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.
Personally, I dislike racist comments, but according to the rules and the IC aspect of the racism I would inform the player about the rule allowing soft racism even though it makes them offended. If it was very problematic and the player did feel very offended I would message both parties to try and cook off on the IC racism and to try and deal with the situation IC.
14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.
I would give the player a ban for griefing, and then logging out immediately after. Time depends on previous notes and how much he affected everyone’s round.
15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.
I would give them a ban for suiciding as a freshly spawned xeno. Xeno larvas should not be going to the front line at any time unless ordered by the queen or circumstances cannot help the situation of having to move toward the frontlines.
16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.
I would warn the player to stay IC as a xenomorph and to not meme in the hivemind chat. They are xenos and should not memers. If they have a previous case of this attitude and multiple warning to stay IC as a xenomorph there might be a ban given to the player though continued memeing as a xeno even after a warning will result in a ban if they continue.
17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".
I would inform the player that its perfectly fine to call the dropship a dropship due to the way xenomorph hivemind works.
18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.
PM the player after checking their notes of previous incidents of this rule break also inform them that they need to stick to the RP and marines don’t know of the aliens on the planet. Then if it’s a first-time offense try to tell them to stay in character with a warning and not to do that again along with fix their reason to head planetside. If they have previous history of breaking RP they will get a command ban.
19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.
It all depends on the situation the marine was dealing with at the time. If it’s in character with xenos on the Almayer and they actually had reason to fight over the EVAC Pod then the logs would show it and it would stay an IC issue. However if there was no threat to the player that would actually lead to murder for an evac spot then a ban would be issued to the player.
20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.
I would let the staff member do what they had wished, and then bring up the issue later in staff chat. Interrupting another staff member midban or mid conversation is bad practice and shouldn’t be done unless they request assistance from other staff members.
20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.
Do nothing at the time though investigating and writing up a report it on staff chat or on the forums about the incident as abuse of staff powers is against the rules.
21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.
I would warn them that offensive humor should stay in the game and OOC insults aren’t allowed on the server in any way. Though overall humor of that kind is easy to ignore. In general, if they continue to insult a staff member or anyone through OOC, I would have to give them a ban for breaking a simple rule of “Don’t be a dick”.
Any additional information you'd like to add?
I do know I have rather little staff experience but I am willing to learn and do hope to get the chance to join the team.
I personally wish to have CM become a safe and helpful place for all players and enforcing the rules to try to keep Colonial Marines player friendly is a major reason why I am applying for Moderator.
