On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate?

About 12-14 hours a week whenever possible. Lately i've been rather busy though and there’s been problems IRL.

None Well I'm a Mentor if that counts.

Yes, I did some rather stupid and IMO I was a pretty bad egg a long time ago.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

Admin PM him and try to figure out what happened, check logs, check his notes, if it was just an accident I'd deem it as an IC issue but if it was a deliberate act of grief then I would note him and apply a 3 hour ban if it's the first time around and aheal those affected, if his note history is repetitive about it or there were many injured and it caused a huge fiasco I'd raise the ban timer to 1 day or 3 days depending on the severity and tell him to read the rules.

2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.

Fix the breach and aheal the players and try to find out the cause, currently it's pretty much impossible to breach the ship but if someone found a way then I'd ask them how they did it and determine whether or not it was a deliberate act or just an accident, if it was caused by a pred explosion then let things play out.

3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

Ask a mentor to help him, if there are no mentors on and i'm not particularly busy, I would admin PM them and try to guide them through the basics of SS13, give him the quick start guide and a link to the rules.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

I would try to calm them down and if they're just a bit rude and not super absolutely horrifying toxic I'd try to get an admin to check up on him, if none are available however and it continues to escalate I would try to help them as much as possible, if they continue to be super toxic or they become super toxic then I'd apply a 3 hour ban or longer depending on their note history and tell them to make a staff report if they have a problem with it and to read the rules.


5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

It doesn't matter if they've used it for years, I'd tell them to change it regardless, to read the rules and check their notes, if they have a history of this and they didn't just forget to change it I'd apply a 3 hour ban, if their history if especially extensive about this then I'd apply a 1 day ban at max.


6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

IC issue, if they have a history of deploying planetside or stockpiling weapons for meta-boarding then I'd keep an eye on them and if they are metagaming then I'd adminPM them and explain what they did wrong, if they're being nice and understanding I'd let them off with a warning and delete the weapons, if they continue to argue I would check their notes and apply a ban for metagaming depending on the severity of their note history with a link to the rules.

7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

This is pretty much impossible as doctors can't be demoted to Squad Medics anymore and survivors can't become marines and with the new skill system, however if the situation were to occur I'd adminPM them and check their notes, if they've got a history of powergaming then I’d apply a ban but if it’s just the first time around I’d give them a warning.

8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

As a mod, I probably shouldn't be acting on the round in any way but if it's an especially long round I'd SM the aCO to attack the xenos or a high-command fax that the hostiles are almost eliminated.

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

This is fine, Marine on CLF after the round ending isn't EORG and is perfectly legal and normal, as antags it's literally part of their job to shoot and get shot,


10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

I'd investigate the situation first, was there RP justification for this, is it just between 2 marines or did it involve a ton of other people? I'd also check their notes, if it's just lowRP memery and not many people were involved in it, I'd let them off with a heavy warning and a note, if it's especially severe and/or they have a history of this then I'd hit them with a 3 hour ban for lowRP at roundstart.

11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

Investigate the situation and check everyone's notes that were involved, talk to the people involved etc, if there was sufficient justification I'd give let them off with a warning for improper escalation, if the other marine was just running around punching people for no reason then I'd talk to them as well, and depending on their note history give them a warning for lowRP, if it was just out of the blue or an accident I'd aheal the ones affected and give the shooter a 3 hour ban for improper escalation.

12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

Check if there are admins on first and inform them of the situation, if not then get on slack and call for an admin, try to deal with the situation as much as possible if none are available and minimize disruption of whatever had occured.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

If it's just minor stuff and not over the top racism, I'd deem it an IC issue and inform him to talk to the MPs about it, I'd keep an eye on it though in case it evolves into full blown racist tirades.

14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

Aheal the ones affected and check the shooter's notes, if it was a random drive-by shooting I'd apply a 3 day ban and apply a note, if the person has a history of this or many people were injured/involved then I'd apply a 7 day ban and a perma ban request.

15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.

I would AdminPM the larva and ask them why they did it, depending on their notes and their responses I would apply either a heavy warning or a job ban from xeno for suiciding as a larva and inform them of the rules and to not do that again.


16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.

AdminPM them and warn them not to do it again and check their notes, if they have a history of this then I might apply a 3 hour ban and a note, if this continues and he has a lot of history of this then I'd apply a 1 day ban.

17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

I would tell them that it's perfectly fine to call it a dropship as the hivemind is just an english translation of the xeno's thoughts.


18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

AdminPM them and inform them that Marines aren't supposed to know about aliens on the planet at round start, apply a note and if need be, LOOC the marines and tell them to disregard what the person said, if they have a history of this I might apply a 3 hour ban or 1 day ban depending on their note history.


19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

I would check the logs first and the notes of those involved, if there was sufficient RP and it wasn't just an out-of-the-blue shooting then I'd deem it an IC issue and take no action, if it was just out of the blue however and the guy just shoots him then I'd apply a warning and depending on their history of lowRP, a ban.

20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

Inform them over Msay or with a PM about their mistake, if they argue about the incorrect enforcing of a rule I would gather evidence and take it up to their manager.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

Gather evidence and do nothing at the time, if there are other staff members who are uninvolved I would try to contact them through Slack or Discord and tell them what's going on and to help gather evidence, then I would contact the higher-ups about the situation and forward any evidence that we have gathered.


21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

If it's just chill joking around I'd probably reciprocate and have fun, but if it's just them being a shitter or being toxic then hit them up with a note or if they're note history if big on this, a ban.

Good Application, However, I would expect more context from a staff member including Multiple Scenarios.

Anyway, this is a test for you, there is no right or wrong answer, however, I wish to see to the Thought process, Investigation, Rectification and Punishments (If any).

You arrive on the server (Moderator) and the population is surprisingly lower (15 Players) than normal (70 Players) for that time period. When you check Unheard ahelps you see 47 ahelps all saying someone has been griefing heavily. You see no corpses nor any blood, However, it is quite clear it has been happening.

Rules for this test:

You are to think of yourself as a Moderator at this moment in time when dealing with this.
You are the only staff online and backup won't be able to get on another 3 hours.
You do have access to the logs server.
You do have access to Discord.

Ok, first off I'd see if any one of those who ahelped are A. Still online, B. Not actually the same person repeatedly sending in the same ahelp C. what the grief is and D. when it happened.
Once that's done, I'd check the relevant logs to see if everything matches up, If the grief was very recent then I'd check the guy's ckey and see if they're still on, if they are, AdminPM them and ask them what they were doing, talk to them etc, depending on if it was just one guy repeatedly spamming ahelps or if it affected a ton of lads I'd apply a 1 day ban to 7 days once again, depending on severity and apply notes as needed and perform aheals on the affected people.

If he just logged off then I'd check his notes, apply a 1 day ban if it turned it to be small-scale grief, 3 day ban if he's got more than 1 note about this and a week ban + perma request if he's got 2 notes about it, once again apply aheals on the affected people.

If I can't find logs of this happening or if it happened a while ago then I'd ask around in OOC if anyone knew what happened, if they did to send an ahelp about it and possibly a time-frame reference like how long ago it was, I'd also ask about in Discord if anyone knows anything, once I do find the logs I'd check his note history and apply a 1 day ban if it was just a random drive-by grief, if the Ckey's got more notes about this, apply 3 day ban or 7 day ban with a perma request, If they have an extensive history of being a shitter however then I'd apply a 7 day ban + perma request, and I would note the person about it too.

I'd probably go hit up Mchat and why there weren't any people on, if people say there was a big griefer I'll tell them that he's been dealt with and it's gucch to come back on and die horribly play.

If it's on discord i'd whip out my guitar and start playing for people and tell them to get their asses back on.

I don't have too many problems with this app I think, I'll give it a +1 for a trial period.
Some of it shouldn't noted as low rp but more outright grief if it's involving harming other marines, but anything that comes up can be learned in the trial period or asked about.
