On average, how many hours are you available per week to moderate? Quite afew. I Play 10+ hours most days.

Do you have any previous experience in being staff (not just SS13)? Um just one where i was an admin on an unturned server me and my mates used to run. For application purposes I wouldnt exactly count it though seeing as it was a minor server that only used to have about 10 regulars (not alot of work was needed moderating etc, people tended to either be hacks and get VATed or were dicks and got the boot).

Did you play any of the previous Colonial Marine servers? No

What are the 3 biggest servers you play on besides CM? None. Only play CM.

Are you currently a staff member elsewhere (not just SS13)? If so, where? Nah like i said i tend to only play CM hah.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on Colonial Marines? I dont believe so. Ive had a couple of 3 hour bans but nothing worse that i can remember.

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on ANY server? If so, which server, when, and what for? If the question is directed at SS13 servers only then no. If it applys to any other games then yes, Im permabanned from a couple of unturned servers (which Im pretty sure dont even exist anymore)

Are you familiar with the chat program Slack (its use is required)? Hadnt heard of it before my time on CM but ive had a quick look at it before making this app and im sure itll be simple enough to figure out.

Common Staff Situations:
Write a description of what you would do in each of the following situations. Do not write on the same line as the situation - use the space below it or make space as needed. Failure to do this proves your inability to follow instructions and your application will be automatically denied.

1. A player randomly shoots someone at round start and MPs have detained him.

Assuming there's no ahelps made about the situation and there was only one shot or burst, chances are it was a misclick or something along those lines. IC issue that seems to be taken care of via MPs. If an ahelp is made or it was a magdump id investigate the situation further and apply notes warning etc.

2. The ship has a breach to space and a bunch of players have died or are dying as a result.

With the game how it currently is im sure there are VERY few things, if anything that can result in spacing these days. On the off chance that something does happen then id apply aheals to the injured/dead after plugging the hole.

3. You see a player walking around the ship naked and clearly lost.

Though id assume this would fall more under mentor jurisdiction, Just because of how i am Id quietly send them a bwoink informing them of the food vendor/prep areas and where they are as well as a link to the wikis getting started guide. After which if there was a mentor online id ask them to help further if needed.

4. A player is being very rude to you in Adminhelps and requesting to speak to an Admin+ staff member.

First thing id do is take a breather and keep my cool (noone likes someone being rude). Then id remind them that admin staff is limited and busy and that moderators are here to help even if you dont like us. And that if for any reason i cant assist them due to failings in my own ability thats when ill hand it on to a more experienced or senior staff member.

5. You notice a player with a name that doesn't fit our naming rules. The player is arguing that: They've used the name for several years, no one has told them to change it before, and that they didn't know it was a rule.

Id send them a bwoink informing them that their name dosent meet criteria and that itll be changed(i know from my own personal experience that this can be done in game) and to change it between rounds in the character creation sheet. Id also inform them that whilst they may have gotten away with it for so long rules are rules and they were lucky to evade them so long.

6. You see a Maintenance Tech running around in armor and carrying a rifle. The security level is green with no threat present.

Assuming this is all he is doing and hes not going around murdering, being armed on code green is an IC issue, though i would be watching them abit more closely and remembering thier name for if any events came up involving them.

7. You see a Squad Medic performing surgery on the planet. He claims it was because there were no doctors in the FOB.

With the current skill system in place medics performing surgery just isnt possible. If it DOES happen for some reason then id Send them a bwoink asking how they had achieved it and warning that they should stop because a dirty marine being operated on by a dirty marine in a dirty FOB is a dirty experience and not to do it again. If the skill system wasnt in place then itd be a note for powergaming but how the game stands itd be more of a bug than mechanic abuse

8. The round is stagnating. There are 30 marines and 4 aliens. The marines won't leave the ship, and the aliens won't attack. What would you do, to "encourage" the sides to engage each other?

Id send the marines an impromptu ARES scan with HC/ARES announcement that "hostile forces are weakened and ready to be finished" and that the marines friends and families were waiting back at earth. same deal if the benos were the superior party with a psychic directive and some xeno related referance for the "morale".

9. The round ends, a MARINE starts shooting a hostile CLF member and the CLF member Adminhelps complaining he was killed after the round ended.

Id inform the CLF member that USCM and CLF are two hostile forces and as such do not fall under the EORG ruling, Combat between hostile forces post round is allowed and dosent warrant notes or bans.

10. A marine is running around disarming, punching and stealing gear at round start.

Another IC issue, BUT is one that could warrant proper step in coz as someone whos played this game alot i know that this guys 3 minutes or one punch from getting himself lynched. If there were MPs awake or a WO id send them a message to possibly keep a closer eye on the area where he is and to hint that there might be hooliginism they're missing out on. If there were no MPs on id send him a message informing him that even if its the softest griefing ever rule 3 exists and he should stop the round start BStery.

11. A marine has killed another marine. When you ask him why, he said it was because the other marine had punched him.

This is blatant improper escalation, you don't get hit once and think "Im gonna mag dump this guy", Id start by ahealing the murdered marine then go check the other marines notes, applying either a 3 hour griefing/improper escalation ban or if they have a history of doing this id go through the process for a heavier ban.

12. An issue arises that requires Admin+ abilities.

I'd start by checking if there were any admins available IG first, calling them for help if so. If not then id check the other platforms staff members have to contact each other, failing all forms of contact id take all notes and evidence of the situation i could gather and form a sort of casefile to share with the first admin i saw available.

13. There are minor racist comments going on IC. 9 of the 10 people are laughing and RPing but one player gets offended and Adminhelps about it.

If it was a tasteful or otherwise decent joke I'd try get the offended person to look at the lighter side of it, Without making it seem like I'm trying to blow them off, But if that's just not happening then Id send the main instigators of the jokes and banter a message stating that whilst many people were enjoying the experience it was starting to negatively impact someone else's game so to tone it down a little bit please.

14. A marine opens fire at round start in briefing killing multiple marines and instantly logs off.

Obvious griefing. Id pull Ckey, Notes and logs, Add a note and ban for 3 hours to prevent any further short term grief while gathering the evidence needed for a heavier ban.

15. You see a player playing a xeno larva/chestburster run towards the frontlines and die.

I'd Message the player asking what they were doing near the frontlines as a larva, (as an ex beno main and occasional player now i know i sometimes wait till im nearly evod then head out and evo next to the frontlines to save time if its needed) if they were trying some metal gear noodle antics id add a note for it and send them a message reminding them if they are a larva and can see a marine sprite, even through a wall, they need to back up. If while i'm in their note history and notice this is a common event id also warn that the note will include a job ban for next offense.

16. You see a xeno memeing, saying AYYLMAO, REEEEEE etc in hivemind chat.

Id start by sending them a message warning them that though xenos arent held to them same RP standards as others LRP is still not allowed and to stop before noting them for the warning.

17. A xeno player calls the shuttle a "dropship". A different xeno player complains to you that it's metagaming/failRP to call it a "dropship".

Id explain to the person complaining that the hive mind allows xenos to use more direct terms if they wish, Xenos have a tendency to half make up words via misspelling and even had a round where the tank was named the tnak by the benos because queeno misspelled and they rolled with it. Long as the information dosen't fall in the grounds of meta ie calling the location of CiC etc before landing and scouting it, there's no rule breaking here.

18. A Command staff player at briefing near round-start mentions there are aliens on the planet.

Id first investigate the surrounding chat to see if it was said in general discussion or as a part of briefing fact. If its something minor like calling possible CLFs illegal aliens or something like that then id let it slide. If it was "guys there's benobabies down there get ready for acid blood and lotsa ree's" then id make an OOC announcement to marines reminding them that marines and command staff DO NOT know of the xenomorph hive at the colony. Id also send the officer a message reminding and explain to them that meta knowledge and actions are no-nos before noting him for a warning.

19. A Marine kills another Marine on the EVAC Pod to take the last spot and claims it was RP as he was saving himself.

This is a tough one honestly, On one hand it does make sense RPwise people get desperate and would turn on their mother to save themselves when faced with a massive 2d sprite, ahem i mean 10 foot tall killing machine. If the killed player didnt ahelp id let it lie. If they complained about it then id inform them that RPwise in someways it makes sense even if its a dick move, But i would also message the other player and just remind them that rule 3 exists and though his reasoning wasn't the worst ever would his character be able to live with themselves after such an act.

20. You see a fellow staff member give wrong information in an Adminhelp or incorrectly enforcing a rule.

I'd message the staff member informing them that they aren't quite correct and they may wish to correct them selves. If they remain adamant and stubborn about something they are wrong about then id go to their senior staffer, Other staff aren't too much of my problem as long as the information gets cleared up.

20a. You see a fellow staff member abusing his powers in-game.

This is alot more serious. Id gather evidence, logs etc that i could and go make a staff report on the forums as well as take it to a head staff member, either their senior staff member or an admin. Staff vs Staff is something i tend to try to avoid as infighting always sucks but if its abusing powers in any way that effects gameplay etc then frankly it needs to be stomped on quick. Were dealing with anywhere between 40 and 200 people sometimes, cant have one persons power rush ruin everyone's day.

21. You see a player talking in OOC chat about what he did with your mom last night.

So it’s time to get your brain firing with the what if’s:


1. A predator has gone to the Almayer to recover gear in the CIC office. During his attempt to recover the gear of a fallen predator he is attacked and put into pain critical. He decides to trigger his self destruct before dying and the entire CIC is now destroyed because of this. You get a massive amount of ahelps about it.

2. A player who is a MT is doing his job setting up power, making sure the OB is loaded, but you get an ahelp on this player that says the following “All this guy does is LRP memery shit and throw eggs at people every round.” How would you handle this?

3. A player ahelps that he was arrested by the MPs for a violation of marine law, but has been charged with the wrong crime. He demands that he be immediately be released or else.

I have no issues with This person being on staff, as they are a reliable person of the community, know their stuff and often are willing to give a helping hand wherever they can. however before I give an answer, I have a few questions from our sponsors;

1. The RO ahelps that he has been attacked by one of his CTs. There are no hostiles nearby, and the ship is on code green. When you go to check his notes, his last note say’s that he is on probation for lowrp shittery. Whaddya do?

2. Shortly after roundstart, you see the XO make an announcement prohibiting the use of all grenades asides Incen. No one has ahelped it, though the observer mains in dchat are already beginning to make a fuss over it. Whaddya do?

3. A marine kills a xeno and then starts insulting them in looc several times, what would you do about this?

Yea i thought it was, doesn't account much for covering the newer mechanics and removed old ones, as for your brainteasers:

1. From everything i've seen and read about pred laws and the code from watching them and applying myself, I cant find any rue breakage here on the preds behalf, whilst yes from what i could gather (the SD part of preds code is written strangely) its not the best move to SD on the alymayer its not a rule breakage, Hope the marines have good medical and MT staff to fix it up. In terms of staff reaction on my part id make an OOC message stating so for the marines.

2. Check the MTs notes first if he does indeed have a history of LRP and memery id keep a close eye on them, But as long as theyre doing their job properly currently there's no issue in my eyes. If it hasn't bothered them so much in the past to ahelp on the rounds it applied to then a round where the MT is actually doing his job isn't the time to try throw him under the bus. Id also warn them (not officially) that that's borderline metagrudging. Past rounds mean nothing to future rounds ive been the saltiest guy ever towards some people then next round gotten myself killed trying to save that same person.

3. Or else what? Coming at staff acting like they're the bad guys isn't the way to get things done. Needless to say I'd still investigate and message the WO/arresting MP and ask what they were arrested for and what they were charged and timed with (If you're a dick and try to run or attack MPs they can quite often add extra charges on top of what you were originally arrested for). If the players just being salty i'd give him a warning for wrong use of ahelps and leave it at that. Else id tell the WO/MP to readjust the charges to be correct and to remove time already served from the original failed charge.

Assuming you mean the CT has the notes and not the RO then i'd Immediately message the CT questioning why they fired to give me time to quickly check logs and see if their story matchs up etc. Failing a reasonable explanation Id explain to the CT to use his re-ban to figure out where he went wrong while waiting to reapply for his next ban appeal. (i went off the assumption that by probation you meant he had appealed a Jban and was on probation for that)

2. Whilst in my experience not against the rules denying marines anything in req turns out bad sooner or later, doubly so if its not a CO or RO saying so. Id message the XO asking for a reasonable IC reason why you would deny soldiers a staple part of their armaments Not to mention seriously nerfing a spec if someones gone B18. End of the day until ahelps from active players roll in aside from my initial worry's at an order like that if everyone playing is happy then its kosher, Dchat are observers if anything they should be looking forward to how the marines would react with no dropped nades etc.

Wew heres hoping i can keep up with all the questions heh.

1. Id also check the logs for any other actions that may have taken place. Disarm, punches etc. In general though if you want to be saved by the big guys with big guns youve gotta listen to them. Assuming the Marines showed an intent to have tried healing him after and it was only done to disarm a colonist that otherwise would have been a risk to disarm id see no problem in the scenario. However if the marines had just told him a couple of times to drop it then unloaded on him until he couldn't be revd again that'd be a different story. At most maybe light warnings and reminders that even a hostile civi can be an asset but i wouldnt imagine anything heftier would be needed.

2. First id check logs relevant to the survivor. Had they been hostile since round start and just somehow managed to one man army the marines steal a DS and make it to the alymayer or had he been civil, rescued and then decided to rampage? If it was the former honestly id probably let it play out. one or even two colonists should be no problem for the marines and MPs. (And honestly id love to see a xeno major because of survivors.) If it was the latter then thats a direct rule break of the few rules survivors get. Id message them telling them to take the 3 hour break to consider reasonable survivor play and grounds to rampage. Then id note them and move onto the next case.

3. 1 Icky in Ocky, 2 Rule 3. Id message the player reminding and warning them that IC in OOC or LOOC is not allowed and to cut it out before noting them for it. Salting in Looc is bad enough, we dont need people verbally teabagging in LOOC too.

If you surrender or come in peace then you accept the fact that you will be given the status of a POW. Which means that as long as your medically sound, fed and aren't beaten protocol would dictate that you be confined until the alymayer was able to stop by a camp or penitentiary. Their round shouldnt be completely ruined by this as for the most part there should always be one MP in the brig with prisoners at all times anyway which means at least one person to talk to and RP with. Just because you're not getting to partake in the shooty shooty bang click dosent mean your rounds lost.
